I gonna say the arms and armor longsword kind of looks like something you see in an old medieval fantasy movie from the 1980s like Excalibur

Glad you've got a review of the dragon king sea wave coming and it impressed you. I bought it for its looks but I was so impressed by how it felt. Almost effortless to move around. Definitely my favorite katana handling wise.

Great list! I don't have many swords, but I was delighted with a scratch and dent Dojo Pro Wakizashi Model #1 from Ronin Katana. The matching Samurai Sword #2 was nice too, but a lot of wakizashi are comparatively expensive.

That Schloss Erbach needs a second look as I’ve never been that into it but this has opened my eyes and I’ve still got about a month before my Landsknecht Gottfried shows up that your channel inspired me to get.

Hey, treat yourself Matt. Glad to see your taste in action! I certainly echo your sentiments about the LE messer work and the LK Jian. When the video started I was thinking, if I were to do a similar video with my collection what would feature is probably the Mag Chu first…and then you immediately bring up your own ;-)

I've got the LK Chen Chu Jian, and I'd say I agree with everything you said. About the scabbard, that seems to be a known issue with them, at least for their jians. Their dao don't seem to stick in the scabbard (though I only have two, their Yanling Dao, and their Miao Dao), but of the two Jian I have (Magnificent Chu Jian, and the Soaring Sky Han Jian), the scabbards stick. With the Chu Jian, I've noticed if I hold the scabbard at a certain angle and just let gravity do the work, it goes in easily and doesn't get stuck though. Might help with yours too. I've also got two of their Classic Han Sha's. These things are freaking massive 8 foot spears. One I got pre-assembled from Kult of Athena (which is 8 feet and I have a hard time displaying it in my house because it's so damn huge lol), the other I ordered direct from LK Chen and I'll have to assemble it myself (though I'm going to customize the haft down to about 5 feet, so that with the blade it's a six foot weapon, make it more handy and manoeuvrable).

I was at Bugei when Susan was there. She showed a new sword that James and Keith Larman were thinking about making. I fell in love with it. It is the Peace sword. I also purchased the wakisashi when it was produced. The best investment I ever made. My most prized sword I own.

The sword I use in a few of my videos my nephew gave me. The scabbard was falling apart and had metal duct tape on it which didn't work too well. The blade itself is of fantasy design and the handle was poorly wrapped with a tiny bit of what looks like shoelace. But the blade is surprisingly sturdy and I have not had it break or bend. I've even tried to get it to bend and it wouldn't. The tip is slightly bent though but it was already like that when he gave it to me. It'll cut through thick trees the size of quarters and fifty cent pieces with no apparent damage. The blade does need to be resharpened but all do after so much use. Overall it surprised me I thought it would be odd and clunky and break upon a strong impact, but alas it did not.

Nice video Matt 3 swords that surprised me. Hanwei bamboo mat (by your recommendation,) became my favorite katana to handle. Albion Yeoman- absolutely amazing in the hand. Hanbon forge 1060 katana - not without its issues. But profiled like a weapon should be at an economic price.

Great 6 swords video Matt. How's the elbow holding up? I have to say that there are 2 katanas that caught me completely off guard and I don't really know anyone else who likes them like I do, but they are the Hanwei Wind & Thunder katana, and the Ronin Dojo Pro O-Katana. Both require quite a bit of strength and stamina to swing around, but I just love the destructive capabilities of both. The W&T has an almost "exaggerated" width and great geometry to the blade.....plus all of the mitsudomoe placed liberally about the fittings! I'm 6'0-6'1 (depending if I'm having a really bad hair day) and I like having the extra reach added to my swing. I'm also a fan of the Dotanuki style blades, which makes this katana, even if it is ONLY 1060 🙄

Can you do a "6 swords to go to war with"? You mentioned the messer as a two week campaign in terms of it being robust. Which swords in your collection would you trust in a zombie apocalypse or a extended war campaign?

If you are a mere civilian and not a participant, you need something that will help you survive - good shoes, adequate clothing, food and water, backpack, lighting that sort of thing; as far as things not to carry, anything that hinders you from Tom-cruising it.

@@williammdsilvaI did some research, apparently a handgun with enough ammo worth a damn is well over one kilogram, a rifle with a full body load of munition and protective kits can easily be half the weight of an average adult, like what, you are going to put everything else in a shopping trolley? None of those situations would be like playing fortnite where there is a shrinking safe zone to force confrontations. What you need the most are reliable paper maps of various scale, some big enough to mark out entire cities and their suburbs, some small enough to mark out individual buildings and backroads, don't plan to outgun, plan to outrun and outmanuver, draw as little attention as possible.

@@williammdsilvaI don't know, I don't prep, but I wager that aside from the high detail city maps, paper based terrain and HD sat maps that show elevation, service roads, double/hiking trails and streams or bodies of water would come in handy; the point is you can carry a lot of paper in the stead of a Glock with two magazine of bullets. Don't be like kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqynx7mEh8-zhrg.htmlsi=PrWKG0Grlee6ieDs though😂, plan ahead......

Okej not realy a sword but a what i think i woud pick is a smal billhook. The gardening typ, rugged, easy to sharpen withe a fille, a bit of a sword ax hybrid or maybe large knife axe hybrid. Light bur withe Wright and often eithe a longer handel so you can choke up or down. And withe that hooks point to realy get in there and do some damege. Think i woud combo realy whel withe a buckler or smal shield for defensiv work.

@@Matthew_Jensen Dragonsword contacted me to say that they are very reticent to send blades through UK customs. I was under the impression that as long as the blades were hand forged, they were legal to buy and own ? I'm sure you're not an expert on UK customs, but do you have any knowledge on this subject ? Please never take for granted your freedoms when it comes the availability of edged weapons in the US. The fact that you can buy and sell blades on ebay I regard with great envy. Our purchasing options are very limited here in the UK, and are therefore much more expensive.

@@Matthew_Jensen Also, if I may take a little more of your time. there's something that's been puzzling me. I have heard that it is not good for blades to be stored long term in the saya, and that a shirasaya (sleeping scabbard) is better for this purpose. I wonder if this is true, because are they not made of the same wood ?

But what does Anathar have to say of the swords you recommended in this video? I would have to believe he has his own opinion on these swords. With him being a sword himself, I'm sure there are plenty of important details he would be aware of that mere mortals such as ourselves would be completely oblivious to. 😀
