I'm sure it's worth every penny to some people. I know people who have paid $3,000 for a bow and $1,000 for a case and quiver set, and $600 for a dozen arrows.

I think removing the Gothic option gets this into a much more palatable price for me.

The coin in the Pommel is an older 50 Pfennig coin from Germaný from the time before we were forced into the Euro but after 1949. I will look up this sword, the real one, since I live just outside of Munich (München)

My favorite Albion, and one of my favorite swords. I bought mine from Albion with a half-wire wrap, but not the Gothic configuration, based on aesthetic preference. It's one of those swords that I can't not pick up when I see it, and it's weight and balance never disappoint when I do.

It is a simply stunning sword in every aspect. After recording, and especially after editing, and realizing the Gothic configuration now adds over $600, if I were to buy one it would certainly be without that specific feature.

For you and @alientude... when I see this sword, I imagine the cut to be due to the speed. This is why the blade needs to be just that bit longer to achieve higher tip speeds, and the grip needs to be a tad longer to allow the lever motion to imprint higher torque (so higher angular acceleration). Am I wrong? So the fact that the blade is rigid help with this, but the tip speed is what's important. Basically, you cannot deliver a drawing cut through the bottle from a few inches away as with a wider, thinner blade.

@@alientude I've never loved the "Gothic" leatherwork option, but you did confirm a suspicion I had about those rather proud standing pins in the middle of the upper grip. This was the first partial wire wrap I've ordered on an Albion, and I was very pleased about how it felt on my ungloved hands. One of these days I'll have to get a Museum line sword and compare the fit and finish to their Next Gen line.

@FiliiMartis Yes, I do find that tip speed is very important for cutting, especially when using a sword that has less-than-ideal geometry for cuts. You've touched on something I'm going to be talking about in a review coming up, which is how different factors play into cutting ability. The Munich had a bit of a learning curve to it - the overall length required me to get used to it before I was able to feel comfortable using it. But with that extra length, the tip definitely gets moving fast due to the rotational forces.

@@FiliiMartis You aren't wrong. Those are all contributing elements. The blade near the CoP is just enough of a flattened diamond to not significantly diminish it's ability to cut, but the tip speed, inertia, and rigidity are doing most of the work. In my experience this same combination of elements makes it pretty good at cutting hard(er) targets as well. I've cut through 1 inch (2.5 cm) green wood branches pretty easily, and with much less concern for potential blade damage than I would with say my Principe, or similar cut-focused blade. Edit: ...and one of the best traits of the Munich (mine anyways) is that the blade sings like a tuning fork, and much louder and clearer than any other sword I own.

That is a sick looking sword, one I've wanted to try out for a while. But im not sure I like it enough to justify that price. That scabbard is absolutely gorgeous though. Great review!

I think removing the Gothic option makes the price a lot more attractive. Dropping the half-wire as well gets you to $1898, which is still a hefty price, but a little more palatable.

Beautiful weapon and gorgeous scabbard.

Man, that thing rings like a bell. Very pretty sword, but a bit out of my price bracket. Thanks for the review and showcase!

It really does - one of the prettiest sounding swords I've used.

It took me a few years to commit to buying one (in the meantime buying several other Albions), but once I had it in hand it lived up to the hype (for me).

Or maybe I'll go for one of Mateusz Sulowski's ornate versions to get something more decorated like the original - that would certainly be one of the crown jewels of my collection. No matter which way I go, I definitely need a version of this sword in my collection at some point.

@@alientude It definitely would be something about the overall shape just catches the eye and enthralls you instantly.

The Munich has one of the nicest S-shape guards out there. This guard, long grip and narrow blade screams: I'm a martial sword, move me quickly and thrust with purpose to the face. Either I did not remember, or I never paid attention, but I did not expect an over 4mm thick blade at the tip. This is as close to an estoc a sword can get while still being a sword. Years back, I was considering getting one in the same configuration as in the review. But the price made me go for a museum line piece instead. No regrets, but man the Munich still looks so good. I would go for a simple grip these days, though. Yet even so, one can get a Fiore and a Sherriff for the same price. So yea, I agree that the price puts the Munich in a strange class in a way. @alientude, after you are done with your foreseen Albion reviews 👍, since you handled quite a few by now, do a small video stating in your opinion which 1h and 2h swords from Albion cut best, move best when swinging around, and which are your favourite.

@@alientude Take your time... review all you can. You guys in the US can form a "brotherhood of the shipping Albions" and lend each other your swords to gain familiarity. Now that I think about it, the least popular piece to be sold would become rare to lend and thus popular. 😅

What a pretty sword. Out of curiosity do you have a video of the sword behind you with sharply down turned guard? Looks interesting.

I think I agree with you 100% 3000$ is alot of money. I can't really say would pay that. VA vision is like 2/3 or like 1/2 that even... just saying... Excellent review as always brother 🤘

@@alientude yeah I mean I get why people would pay that. It's functional art in a sense right? Can you really put a price on art? It's in the eye of the beholder and all that. But 3000$ is a lot of cheddar. Enough to buy a great many things. To me vision line is a mutch better value. You get a atrim blade,beautiful scabbard and grip for much less money. What's the most expensive vision line sword $1800-$2000?
