    Simpson's record stands out because he was all the opponents had to stop. 1973 Bills passing atrack consisted of a rookie qb who completed 44% of his pasees (5.2 completions per game for 63 yds per game). Bills said try to stop one guy.

    Joey.B 2001 Anabolic Steroids bulks you up fast and it does make you stronger, but steroids doesn't give a hitter extra hitting power, not even the slightest. That's a common myth that's already been busted along with "the corked bat gives a hitter extra power" myth. I don't condone Barry Bonds' steroid use and I agree with anti-doping policies in sports. Even professional wrestling. Kids look up to those guys and because their always in the spotlight, they're expected to carry themselves with the upmost integrity and professionalism. It's not just their team/club their representing, but assuming that you're implying that Bonds cheated? Buddy, don't even try to argue because you're most likely going to lose.

    J.R. Stewart yep, you're right. It's obviously pure coincidence that home run rate dropped of by more than 25% after the BALCO scandal and more stringent drug testing protocols. Maybe all the fields just got longer by 25% during that time. Yeah, that's it. Juicing helps with home runs. That's just how it is. The stats back it up.

    Here is a record that DESERVES an asterisk... In the 2006-07 hockey season goaltender Martin Brodeur won 48 games breaking Bernie Parant’s record of 47 wins in a single season set in 1973-74. The reason Brodeur deserves an asterisk next to his record is because he did it at a time that when games ended in a tie, the teams played an overtime period rather than simply end the game in a tie, and if the game was still tied after the overtime period, the teams participated in a shootout until one team got the win and the other an overtime loss. When Parant won 47 games, they were all regulation time wins (no overtime). That season Parant had 12 ties in addition to his 47 wins. Now, if Parant has the opportunity to play overtime in those games, even if he only won half of those contests, he would have had 53 wins in the 73-74 season. So, yeah, Brodeur won more games in a single season than Parant did, thus breaking his record, but there should be an asterisk next to his total of 48 wins.

    Ironically I won't be cheering for one of the guys who just came out of my favorite college team which is at FCS level, Cooper Kupp of Eastern Washington, who broke Jerry Rice's records. Because he got drafted to my Seahawks rival the Rams. So I guess I'll cheer for him alone to do good but still not have his team beat us or win the division. Not like hes their savior or anything, the Rams are a dumpster fire.

Even though Aaron neve r hit more than 47 in a seaso n, he.@.least didn't bulk up on steroids the way Bonds d id. A-Fraud is another one; h e's another one who bulked up & was kicked out of base ball for the 2014 season du- e to his cheating. • @willatwood

    @willatwood

    4 жыл бұрын

    Tony Simon well idk if this would make the list only due to the fact he still had the rest of the third and fourth quarter to tack on yards to his record and set the record higher. If they broke his record in 4 quarters, there still isn't any controversy with that because both players technically had the whole game to rack up all their yards. It would be different if they broke the record in overtime, then that argument would be valid .

    When the NBA merged with the ABA and the NFL acquired the AFL, the NBA & NFL acquired the histories of their respective merging leagues. Certain WHA teams like Gretzky's Oilers & Gordie Howe's Whalers joined the NHL, so I would count Howe's WHA goals.

    Sort of although there is one crucial difference. The WHA proved to be the competitive equal of the NHL (WHA teams actually won more head to head exhibition games with the NHL in the 1970s) so it is notable that Gordie Howe scored more combined WHA + NHL goals than Gretzky. Nippon Professional Baseball isn't quite at the level of MLB so that's why, despite my dislike of Rose, Ichiro's career hits "record" isn't quite the same thing.

    FBS records are kind of ridiculous when you consider that 1) Bowl games count now 2) Seasons are getting longer, both regular season schedules plus adding conference championship games and now the CFP 3) The rules changes favor more and more offense It's almost unfair to compare any yardage or TD record set 35 years ago with a record today. Just imagine the ridiculous numbers Barry Sanders could've set under today's conditions.

    Peyton Manning's most passing yards in a season record*. At the time, Drew Brees held the record, with 5476 passing yards in 16 games. Manning got within 6 yards of Brees. After the season ended, a "review" of a play which had been called a lateral pass on the field, which the video replay showed it was a lateral, was changed to a forward pass. The length of the pass? 7 yards.

    Maybe the greatest rushing season in NFL history is Barry Sanders in 1997. 2053 yards. But considering he had a total of 53 yards after two games, his 14 game total was exactly 2,000 yards, or 143 yards per game. If you subtract Dickerson's worst two games, he had 2,018 yards. Which is better but within a hair of the same thing!

    Roger Maris, despite needing 162 games to break Babe Ruth's record, and getting asterisked (as MLB itself extended the regular season with 8 games), the asterisks definitely belong to Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds due to their 'roid use (and that both, like Maris, were in the latter part of their careers).

    Disclaimer: I am NOT AT ALL saying Donnel Pumphrey was a better college RB than Ron Dayne, as they were both really damn good. If you want to get technical though about the that Ron Dayne would have greatly surpassed the yardage mark if his own Bowl Games were included, then we also need to take into account the fact that Ron Dayne also had 161 (Bowl Games included) more carries during his collegiate career than Pumphrey (oh and Dayne's offense ran the ball at a ratio of 2.71:1 whereas Pumphrey's was 1.75:1). If Pumphrey had as many carries as Ron Dayne he would have (according to their YPC averages) surpassed Ron Dayne (with Bowl Games included) by 195 yards total. In other words, they are both outstanding collegiate running backs, but I wouldn't necessarily put an asterisk next to Pumphrey's record... or at least one in a much smaller font than the one used with Bonds lol.

    Speaking of asterisks. Philadelphia Eagles fans say they have ONLY one 1 SuperBowl. But if they count the NFL Championships prior to 1967. The would have to also include every NFL team also. Just because they renamed the championship "superbowl" ASTERISK!

    If you are going to bring up average yards per game, Jim Brown surpasses OJ for most yards in a season.
