its 100% accurate that venezuela has infinite money and pursues a policy of mass incarceration?
@stvdagger8074
Жыл бұрын
@@newchannelname3395 They did have a lot of money from their oil, but actually spent way more than they took in, most of it on Russian weapons, not elaborate parks. Then when the price of oil dropped during the 2008 banking crisis, and their income fell, the government continued spending at the same level. This involved massive printing of Bolivares. That and other socialist economic policies followed by the Chavez government, resulted in hyperinflation. By 2019, it reached 929,790% per year. This caused massive unemployment and poverty in Venezuela. Over 7 million Venezuelans have become economic refugees, fleeing the country to avoid starvation.
@newchannelname3395
Жыл бұрын
@@stvdagger8074 they never had as much money as the American government so the scene never made a huge amount of sense. The Venezuelan government spent a lot of money on it's armed forces but also spent a lot on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and welfare programs. The US also spends lots of its money on it's army, but I guess it doesn't weapons with evil countries like Russia, it just gives them to nice countries like Saudi Arabia. The US also spend a lot on maintaining their prison system, whereas Venezuela doesn't lock many people up. You're right that mismanagement by Chavez was one of the main causes of hyperinflation but a bit odd to blame it on "socialist policies". Socialism doesn't normally lead to hyperinflation, and when hyperinflation occurs in capitalist countries no one blames it on "capitalist policies"; they try to identify the specific policies in question. In the case of Venezuela it's important to bear in mind that despite the elected government being socialist, the country has always been a mixed economy, with significant economic power held by the capitalist elites that were in place before the Bolivarian revolution. Also important to bear in mind that the refugees aren't just fleeing hyperinflation, but also US sanctions, which have made it extremely difficult to access insulin and HIV treatments.
