Five Jump-stop Options to Take Over the Paint | Basketball Drills | Separation Team
Спорт
Having trouble getting your shot or lay-up off in the paint? Today I'm going to show you the most lethal move to freeze a defender in the paint especially a taller one, the jump stop. You see this move done a lot by Stephen Curry, Ja Morant, and Trae Young. They are so lethal and quick that they can get a floater or fadeaway off on any defender!

Awesome Coach. I'm gonna bring this to the groups I help coach. Our footwork needs A. LOT of work 😂. This will definitely help.

Just watch a NFHS video of traveling and it stated that if both feet land simultaneously that you have no pivot and if you take another step it’s a travel.

Not entirely. If you gather the ball and jumped off one foot into a jump stop, you need to jumped off both feet to shoot. However, if you jumped off one foot and picked up the ball while both feet are off the floor then lands on both feet simultaneously then you can choose which foot will be the pivot foot but you need to shoot the ball before the pivot comes back down.
@genesmith3582

there is nuance to this rule and some shitty refs will call it a travel automatically. Johnanthony is correct, it's entirely about when the ball is gathered. Gathering into the jump stop still allows a pivot foot.
1st step (1-leg), you avoid the defender, and then 2nd step land on BOTH feet, and then immediately bounce off the ground with BOTH feet (pro hop), legal? Or travel?

When is the ball gathered. If the ball is gathered before the landing on two feet then a travel.

there is another jump stop variation when you jump stop on both feet from the second step after picking the ball. Then you don't have any pivot foot, in the video you didn't show this variation.

Only if it touches the floor again before shooting or passing. If it remains lifted while shooting you're good

I think it just depends on league/refs because I'll be honest if that happens in any game i coach or high school around here it's getting called a travel. There's NFHS call this a travel

@copitonieve100

@@cudackedees3327 a layup in stride is obviously different than shooting after a jump stop. A jump shot is made using your pivot and other foot at the same time. There isnt an extra step being taken after coming to a complete stop.

@@copitonieve100 what is different!Except that you don’t know what the rule that is written for more than 30 years. You either can lift the pivot to shot or you cannot. So go read the rule.

@@copitonieve100 you are the idiot that bring up the lifting pivot to “shot” thing so you better go check out rule about it so you can improve your foot work.
important to make sure you step tru not hop tru since you cant have both feet leaving the ground same time after standing on both feet.

Don't get it. How do you perform jumpshot after a jump stop then? I always thought its about pivot foot not landing again not about any foot leaving the ground.

you are the only person ive seen who's thought about this one. Am I allowed to leap into a step through? i never put my pivot foot back down, but my pivot leaves the floor before i put my other foot down. Is it still legal?
@TomatoTomato911

@@jacksontufts2272 both feet in the air = jumping. you can only jump if only the pivot foot touched the floor. but if you hop really low no onc can tell.
@TomatoTomato911

@@Martin-gj1iw you are talking about hopstep where you hop off the pivot foot and lands on both feet simultaneously. hopstep can be done if the non pivot never touched the floor just like a normal 1 - 2 step the 2nd step is usually a hop. when you do a jumpshot you must release the ball before either foot touch the ground. when you do a hop tru both feet are off the ground and the non pivot touches the ground again before you take a shot.

@@TomatoTomato911 this makes sense, but wouldnt this make a euro step illegal? i see i the rule where it prohibits jumping and landing again, in a euro step you really jump into each step

Ah yes but you forgot to read *Rule 10, Section XIII, Paragraph B3* which states: "A player who comes to a stop on step one when both feet are on the floor or *touch the floor simultaneously* may pivot using *either* foot as his pivot." But in reality, it's only a travel if it is called by the referee. When you win in basketball, you have to win on the basketball side AND the officiating side.
when both feet land simultaneously neither can be a pivot foot

What? If they land simultaneously that’s considered one step. So obviously there’s one more left. Quit making up shit. People may want to learn something. 2. A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop and establish a pivot foot as follows: a. If both feet are off the floor and the player lands; (1) Simultaneously on both feet, either foot may be the pivot.
