In his book, Remembrance and Renewal, George Sacerdote traced the history of five Italian Jewish families (three Sephardic, one Italki, one Ashkenazi) back to the 1400s. In this talk, he will share elements of their histories and the process by which he reconstructed their story from documents scattered all over Italy. The talk will run from the 1400s up to the liberation from the ghettoes in 1848.
George Sacerdote was born in the United States into an Italian-Jewish family. His upbringing was strongly bicultural, including summers in Italy. He received a PhD in Mathematics and, after a brief academic career, worked in management consulting. George’s published works include Remembrance and Renewal, Memories of Memories, and The Wisdom of Leone Levi: One of the last people to know everything about almost everything.
