Fitting Up the New Firewall GTO RestoMod (Ep 39)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We get to do some Fabrication instead of knocking out dents today. The new firewall needs to be trimmed and rolled over to match the shape of the GTO. The compressor is still down so we are working without air tools today which will be a change of pace for me.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Wow that's a lot of progress. I really appreciate your detailed explanations of real world restorations solving one problem at a time. A wise man once told me "if you don't make a mistake now and then people don't think you are human". I had just cut his $900 piece of curved stair rail backwards. Nice to see your bikini gard. Thank you for your time.

That sucks blowing it in front of a customer. I had just told myself not to get in a hurry and double check before but I tend to ignore my own advice...

Wow! Creative use of a bench vice. Proving once again that we aren’t limited by our tools, just our imagination!

Very true Stephen. If I do that much more I am going to need a lighter vice 😦

Don't be so hard on yourself Mark. You're dealing with so many curves and rolls it would be hard to make it perfect. It's looking great so far. I love to see your ingenuity at work! Many years of practice!

I don't have all the fancy stuff or a shop big enough for it anyways so you have to make do. Things are looking good so far thanks.

Good news on the compressor and really cheap to repair.

Mark, I will tell you a story about a cut off wheel to do with what you will. Last year while working on my Willys door bottoms I installed a New wheel (new package) onto the grinder, fortunately I had on my face shield on because that thing shattered when I pulled the trigger and went into the shield, to my chin, big bruise some bleeding and a lot of pain for days, never found the other half of the wheel so needless to say I have my shield on whenever I pick up a rotary tool of any kind. BTW I like the firewall work you are doing Have a Blessed day.

I am absolutely not the poster child for safety and have done some seriously sketchy stuff but I am more careful these days especially since I work alone. I think the firewall is coming together nicely too. Thank you

Thanks for the video Mark! Lots of “on and off” to get the sheet fitting just right. Looks great! I too have some scars from my grinder. I generally leave the guard in place, but occasionally it gets in the way. That’s when I’ve nipped myself with it. Dropped my fuel tank at Bo’s place. I’ll pick it up on my way through in a couple of weeks. Getting everything else ready for the big dip!

Thanks Robert. The mini guard should help and stay out of my way. Great news on the fuel tank. Tell Bo hi for me when you pick it up. Are you on schedule to drop off the body?

Yes! I’m just finishing up getting all the bits removed from the body, doors, fenders and hood. Then I’ll put it in my trailer and, off we go. Bo said they’ll do the doors etc pretty quickly, but the body will be there for a while. I’ll use that time to finish the frame and put together a paint booth in the shop. I’m planning to use the same DTM epoxy you’re using on Ruby. Are you still happy with that choice? Thanks much R

Yes I am. Low shrinkage and nice to sand. What is the humidity like there? @@robertmazzei2412

That is not ideal conditions is it? Is your shop sealed up pretty well? You might want to invest in a dehumidifier and leave it running in the shop. Cheap insurance to keep the bare steel safe until you get some epoxy on it. Read the product data sheet carefully as some products do not like excessive humidity, polyesters for one. @@robertmazzei2412
