Thank you for the steady camera, quiet and polite manner of speaking and no horrible background music. Something from the gentle classical genre would have complimented this style of video. Your choice of nothing at all was a wonderful change. Thank you, thank you, thank you. From an accomplished American mechanic who has changed around a dozen of these boots and shafts just on my own vehicles. I wanted to see the split boot installation and the sticky boot title attracted my attention, as well as 63,955 others before me. Thumbs up, my friend.

Thanks for your comments. What I try to do is show how to carry out a repair as it is, no gimmicks or attempts to win Oscars, yes that may be thought by some as flat and uninteresting, but I feel that if it's music you want, switch on the radio. Thanks again for getting in touch.

This is a good video, I use them on my car, they last about 2 and 1/2 years on my BMW which is exactly the same as a normal boot for my car as its heavy. I would say, when you do this, cleanliness is close to godliness as grease and glue are not best friends so make sure you keep everything clean.

This is a kool idea. And I know that there is glue that will hold rubber together. Because I have made O ring’s for hydraulic fittings on heavy equipment. But my thoughts are it’s to bad that there isn’t something that could be applied to the outside of the boot to make it one piece.

Here in NZ my job should be easy.... our climate leaves vehicles just a little dusty underneath. Thanks for sharing. You have saved me a lot of instruction reading when the kit arrives.

"considering the corroded condition of the components. " Yer, that sentence tells us all we need to know about you. Inexperienced with cars - so WYTF are you commenting? Your view is void, invalid, of no consequence. Why? Cos you don't know jack. Normal corrosion for / in Temperate climates. Rust occurs. Guessing maybe you live somewhere sunny? Yer, not much corrosion gonna happen to your car. Travel. Learn. Comment. Only then. Once knowledge is gained. NOOB. Great informative video.

I believe the axle or proper boot should be replaced instead of a split boot, however, one thing I noticed here is that the old grease could have been easily sprayed away with brake or carb cleaner, then pack new grease into the joint. This would ensure any grit, dirt, salt etc. is gone from inside the joint. I would also use some hose clamps, which are easier than these boot clamps. Also, the glue is a rubber weld compound, not a super glue.

Loftur Hjalmarsson If you dont want to split the joint, use the one which goes over it via the plastic cone. It is a messy job (both sides of the boot gets greased), but it is as good as the new. Ive got one more than 5 years and thousands of miles. No concerns at all.
