Fitbit has a new offering this season - the Fitbit Luxe. I’m Erin from TechGadgetsCanada.com here on Amazon and You probably know this device-like other Fitbits- is a fitness and activity tracker plus a general wellness device, and it tracks a boatload of metrics… but what’s new with this version, what sets it apart, is it worth getting or upgrading to? We’ll tackle those questions in my hands-on review.
The Fitbit Luxe is a small, narrow, bracelet-style fitness tracker, making it a little less obvious choice compared to a smart watch. Fitbits will track a host of stats including sleep, steps, heart rate….
What you get depends a bit on the model you choose. This one will track your steps, sleep, heart rate, calories burned, different types of exercise, and -new- breathing rate and blood oxygen. You can view your stats on your wrist or inside the super easy to navigate Fitbit app.
I’m going to focus on some of the newer features only and how they work, or else this could turn into a miniseries. I also deliberately didn’t enable Fitbit Premium. I want to see what the average basic user gets with the watch right out of the package and without paying the extra $13/month. Plus, I get annoyed at having to agree to pay up front after the trial period, because if I forget to cancel, I still get the bill. If you guys are interested in me getting the service and telling you about it, post that in comments below and I’ll do a future video.
One other quick note… Fitbits are best when you calibrate them so the step count is accurate. It’s really easy to do - check out my How-to here on KZread
So.. What are the upgrades you’ll find in Fitbit Luxe?
There are a few key new features and changes that you’d see here, over the next-closest Fitbit which I’d say is the Inspire 2;
The Luxe’s case is now made of stainless steel
The Screen is now in Colour
The Battery life is shorter
And it has Skin temperature and blood oxygen monitors… kinda
Let’s dig a bit deeper…
It’s probably worth pointing out that while this Fitbit is billed as ‘Luxe” there are two very different looks for it. You can opt for the aptly named luxe gold or silver versions or choose the matte black. Each option is made of stainless steel so it’s an upgrade over the plastic used in the Inspire series.
In my personal opinion, the black version doesn’t have quite as luxurious a look to it as the gold and silver and shoppers may want to save some cash and go for the cheaper Inspire 2 if black will be your colour choice, and you’re not interested in any of the other features… which we’ll get to.
Whichever version you choose you can upgrade to a lot of metal, leather and jewelry-style bands to take your look to actual luxe.
The big upgrade to the Fitbit Luxe screen is that it’s now colour instead of monochromatic, which does make it a bit nicer to look at.
The screen on the Luxe is small, to be sure, but if you want something bigger a smart watch like Fitbit Sense should be on your list. Otherwise the Luxe has a colour AMOLED touchscreen.
There’s always trade-offs, so with that lovely colour AMOLED screen, something has to give and that’s battery life. The Fitbit Luxe has a 5 day battery life, which is about half of the Inspire 2’s 10 day life. With that said, a 5-day battery life is still about 4 days longer than my Apple Watch, so…

Thanks for the product info! I’ve worn mine to bed every night but the temperature stats say ‘no data’. Am I supposed to activate this feature somewhere?

Great video! I actually found one on a little known hiking trail in California. Left it on the sign at the enternce for two weeks before taking it home and leaving a note with an email. Have had it for a month now and I love it, super sleek.

Great review! Do any of the clock faces display seconds on the time (i.e. Hour:Minute:Second)? This is a feature I've missed from my ancient Fitbit Charge HR.

Luxe uses the GPS sensors on your nearby phone to capture GPS data. So your phone needs to be with you.

Is the heart rate monitor accurate? That’s the most important to me. And is it reasonable for men? Looks pretty small! Lol

It is a smaller watch that I would not recommend for the avg man. It would be too small for y’all. This is the perfect fancy ladies watch. Fitbit charge 5 is out with really nice features. It’s also bigger than the luxe and looks more “masculine” (if that makes sense.)

I’ve had mine for 7 months and I HATE IT. Let’s be real - you get a luxe bc you want a more stylish bracelet. The Gorgana bracelet does not stay on. I had to call 3 times over as many months to get it replaced. They sent me the mesh instead of the bracelet and it still doesn’t attach correctly. I am constantly picking it up off the ground. So the activity reminder is useless because if I wear it tight enough to feel it, it comes apart. Terribly made.
