I have a Charge 5 on one wrist & a Garmin Venu 2 on the other. I do this because Garmin sleep tracking has always been a dumpster fire for me. This still is the case with regards to the buckets (light, rem, deep, awake) but what has changed is the sleep score. The 2 trackers now align much better. If this trend continues, I'll stop wearing the Charge 5. Now that I'm aware of the differences, the total score is more useable day to day and the Garmin seems to be doing an adequate job in that regard.

Check out this review; the accuracy of Garmin does not seem to be in the same ballpark of the Fitbit devices when compared to an EEG device: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dquAwdZ6aajepMo.html Heart rate accuracy is also only so-so unfortunately. I do like the way Garmin presents the data and gives access to all of it. The subscription model of Fitbit is far less attractive. There are some other good alternatives on the market, the linked channel has reviews for many. One caveat though is that he's tested most devices only on himself and only for a limited amount of time (ie small sample size).

Oh yeah, there were also large blocks of time where data was missing, on these high performance days. I don't know why the device is not capable of handling higher performance levels. THIS! It is my greatest complaint to Garmin. In fact, the biggest problem of the Vivosport was the trash rubber band, now fixed in the Vivosmart 5. So a Vivosport with the new band would beat them both hands down. The transreflective display is so underrated, the more the sunlight the better the visibility, always-on display and 7 day straight of battery, still to this day after 3 years of usage. Come on Garmin! Anyway I guess you're definetely right, as an updated Vivosport would be so damn good to compete vs their own smartwatches which cost much more.

My love affair with Fitbit has seriously waned. My Charge 2, 3 and Charge 4 (have two 4's) still work. My Charge 5 had screen freeze and connectivity problems. Seems half done. Still wearing my Charge 4 as a step counter (most reliable) and a Apple 8 as my main watch now. Charge 5 seems to have been rushed to market as in half finished. Charge 6 looking doubtful .

The fitbit thing of saying you can have accurate HR or GPS is one of the most bizarre features I think I’ve ever seen, especially when you can’t pair it with a HR strap. How many boxes can we tick on the spec sheet? It feels like there’s a level of dishonesty about doing that

I just got the charge 5 yesterday and I have to say its the best Fitbit I have ever owned - I like it a lot so far - the band is far superior to any previous strap - usually the first thing I do with a new fitbit is replace the stock band as they are usually uncomfortable - but the charge 5 band is excellent and fits my wrist perfectly I did get an extended warranty with it - simply because I have never had a Fitbit last longer than about 12 months - The build quality is usually dog shit - im hoping the quality is better with the charge 5

I don’t think any of them do a good job of sleep phase detection, largely because most sleep phase detection is at best 80% accurate (and this isn’t that good). We’d never accept that level of inaccuracy in any other metric like heart rate. As for awake/asleep times, both seem to be fairly good there.

My point was to to compare like to like (free to free). I've had issues with my Fitbit Charge 5 from day 1. First, it kept falling off the OEM band. (known issue with this watch) I almost lost it a few times. I had to fight with customer service to get them to, at least, send a new band. It seemed better but I can't switch to any more fashionable bands because they fall off. I don't like some of the functionality of it. It's hard to restart, it doesn't have the side buttons to take you back to the home screen. You have to swipe through all of the previous screens. Exercises sometimes just randomly stop detecting during a workout. After the last update my battery started to drain very quickly (known issue with this watch. Google it before buying). It would die within a few hours. Eventually, it wouldn't take a charge anymore. It's a year and a half old and Fitbit won't send a replacement. They offered me a 35% discount on a new one. I've seen users post that their brand new charge 5 batteries drain. There's no way I'm purchasing another one of these. Taking into account that the premium features cost $9.99 month, if you want all of the features, this watch is much more expensive than it's $120-$150 advertised price. Thanks for the review. I'm considering a Samsung watch since I have a Samsung phone.
