Fiskars Isocore Maul: Review

Спорт

Power: 9.5 Durability: 9 Feel: 8 (clumsy and vibrations) Cost: 10
Remember, these axes have warranties. It is hard to argue this tool as being the best, low maintenance option for the cost!

They're not actually fibreglass, it's plastic coated with a steel core. Splitting a few cubes of Australian hardwood a year, i was going through 2 to 3 splitters. I bought one of these fiskars and its kept on splitting for the last 2.5 years, super impressed.

I've had that exact maul for 7 years and I've split several thousand pieces with it.. lights out. I leave it outside year round, barely a speck of rust. Workhorse/beast. Paid for itself x 10 already and no signs of slowing down. I'd give it 9.5/10. Plastic guard below maul itself cracks off after about a month

Fibreglass handles > wood handles as far as I am concerned. Especially for a maul. I will say though, wood handles look way better and feel better on naked hands. But if you are chopping wood daily, the reliability, low care concern, and lower weight of a fibreglass handle can't be argued with. Surprises me that you find wood handles to vibrate less. I find fibreglass and composite handles much better at handling vibration. Of course, I don't usually chop my big rounds through the middle, because I am not a social influencer, so I can see why we would have a difference of opinion on the matter. Aesthetics are important when your occupation relies on them, don't get me wrong. Anyway, I really enjoy your wood chopping videos. Keep up the good work.

The Fiskars axes are made where I am from in Finland. Yes I am biased, we have probably 10 dofferent Fiskars axes, some over 20 years old, and this handle will not break on you. I am also for wooden handles, because of tradition, but I hear people say these handles "will break" noup they wont.

The one complain I do have to some "versions" is that their steel has at times been much too hard for some types of wood, which can lead to spliting of the edge. But this has been rare and I think Fiskars will replace these axes as well.if you find Fiskars kitchen scissors, you MUST buy it, these are the absolut must have in a kitchen, and also what made Fiskars famous.

The sledge hammers seem to not transmit the shock back to the user so id be curious whether holds true for the maul as well.

Another drawback to fiberglass handles: Is after some use, mis-hits, the fine outer layers of fiberglass splinter away. Which inevitability get stuck in your hands. And anyone who has had to remove a fiberglass sliver. Knows just how painful/frustrating it can be. Nearly invisible, extremely brittle, and doesn't fester out like wood slivers do. My Vaughn framing hammer has a fiberglass handle. Only drawback to an otherwise pristine tool.

For a beginner I think fiskars is pretty good to start with. I like the weight and design of them despite the handle material. I have a maul, slotting axe and hatchet. Reasonably priced too.
