Fishing with the BERKLEY CHOPPO | Explosive Results

Спорт

Had a little bit of time to fish so I took advantage of it. We had experienced a couple of rainy day in a row and I wasn't sure if the fish would be active enough to fish topwater, but it had warmed up and the sun was out so I thought it was worth a try. I had some good succes, I'm really impressed with the Berkley Choppo, it really has a distinctive sound and functions very well.

    The Choppo is a great lure. It’s easy to fish and it catches em. I like it just a little better than the plopper.

    That’s some nice topwater action. It’s crazy how some little bass try to take out baits almost as big as they are. Makes me wonder if they are actually trying to eat it, or just attacking out of a territorial response of some sort.

    I think half the time it’s an anger thing when the small fish attack big baits

    2 years later... haha but I just wanted to put my $.02 in, I think you needed a rod that had a little more of a parabolic bend to keep those treble hooks buttoned. Also, when a fish tries to surface to jump, you can drop your rod tip and pull to the side to try and stop that jump from happening. That's where they get more leverage and are able to throw a heavier bait like that. Great video and nice catches!

    Hey thanks for commenting, all great points. I have changed my line rather than change my rod, I used to use braid but have since realized that mono is a much better option for topwater baits with treble hooks. Gotta have some give in the system! Again thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate your input as I am always trying to improve!

    Dana Collins it’s actually a 90 and a 120, 10 millimeters longer than the 110 Whopper Plopper. Here’s a review I did of it with underwater footage kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJ18lbuMoMTMh6Q.html

    What color Choppo is best in New England, northeast usa, NH.

  • @MidwestBassHunter

    Depends what your primary forage is. What are the bass in your lakes eating? There are a couple colors that seem to work wherever such as bone or black. The other thing to take into consideration is the fact that topwater baits are not very visible to the fish. They most likely just see a silhouette above them against the lighted backdrop of the sky. So go with whatever color you like or have confidence in.

    You will have a better hookup ratio if you change out the hooks to EWG they stay pinned

  • @MidwestBassHunter

    @MidwestBassHunter

    I actually think the round bends do a better job hooking the fish but the EWG does a better job of keeping em pinned. What about using one of each???

    Miss fishing small strip mine pothole ponds and lakes. They’re what I grew up fishing. I guess you picked the right bait for the conditions, eh? Lol Hey, you want to know what feels worse than losing a decent fish like you did? I think you saw that 40” pike I caught and posted on Facebook last Tuesday...yeah what I didn’t mention was that pike knocked my Dobyns Xtasy and Curado K overboard in 40 to 50’ of water 🤬 a buddy of mine went out with me Friday and we cast homemade rod retrievers around for an hour or so with no luck. I am so pissed. I might possibly hire a diver depending on the cost 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Midwest Bass Hunter yeah that was the first time I’ve lost a rod-n-reel ☹️ there may be good news. I have insanely good ‘’wrap” business/personal insurance that I pay dearly for and my agent said there’s a better than good chance I’ll get a replacement. I told him to show me where I’m paying for an “idiots” clause lol and he just said “let me worry about it” ok. Guess we’ll see
