Fishing Topwater Lures For...Carp?

Спорт

I found this to be a very interesting trip! We intended to target smallmouth during a mayfly hatch but found they hadn't quite moved in on the easy meal yet. Instead the carp were in the buffet lines around mayfly swarmed trees gulping up those that fell in the water.
I used a Nikko hellgrammite as a finesse topwater lure to mimic a mayfly and trick several carp into biting using the same method I would for smallmouth, essentially topwater bass fishing for carp!
Here's where you can find the Nikko Hellgrammites I was using in this video: amzn.to/2JSvN2W
I rigged the hellgrammite with a 1/0 Owner Mosquito light hook

I remember when over 30 years ago I gave my 3 1/2 year-old son a crappie jig on his tiny rod to go fish about 5 feet away from me. I actually thought he would not catch anything, but he still would be entertained while I caught some sauger. Lo and behold my son starts to fight a huge fish. We eventually landed a near 10 lb carp - I still have the picture of him proudly hold that fish up on a stringer. He now is 36 years-old and he is hooked on fishing, and he is a better fisherman than I ever was. Great video.

Ha reminds me of a time my dad and I went fishing and my youngest brother wanted to ride along in the boat. My brother brought his mickey mouse fishing pole and kept bugging my dad about wanting to use this really old rusted ice fishing jig. Finally my dad tied it on, a minute later my brother pulled up a nice walleye from a lake that we didnt even think had walleye!

Good to see that some people understand that KZreadrs rely on viewers watching the ads (not skipping them) to make some revenue. So many viewers think that the creator gets paid by KZread just because they watch the video. Put it this way - 1 million views, but all 1 million viewers skip the ads = no revenue to the video creator!

My dad use to smoke carp. He built a smoker out of a 50 gallon vegetable oil drum. We had an apple tree that had been struck by lightning, and dad used the apple wood to smoke the carp. It had alot of bones in it, but it was good. He loved crappie fishing in the river across the road, and salmon snagging in Sheboygan, and paddle fishing in Wyoming. Paddle fish is really good in beer batter. Lots of good fishing in his life.

This was back in the late 70's I was in moses lake washington.. In those days if I didn't fish at least 3 or four times a week I had withdrawals.. Any way moses lake back then was basically a carp lake (they have since poisoned it off and they have a great lake now.. But I went for a day out to fish carp.. had a blast caught som monsters out there.. The one and only time I ever fished for those creatures.. But with a medium eagle claw pole and 6 lbs test you can imagine he fun.... Though it might have been my heavy line the 8 lbs test I was using.. I have not fish for carp since and I have not been back to moses lake either.. But I hear it is a terrific lake these days.. Thanks for the share and carry on.. love to go fishing with you..

G'day from Australia. I love your videos buddy. We call them European Carp here in Australia and they are considered a pest. European carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a pest that adversely affects the health of our rivers and wetlands. It was first introduced to Australian waterways more than 100 years ago and has since established in every state except the Northern Territory. Able to tolerate a wide range of conditions and habitats, including low-oxygen and brackish water, it is considered one of the country's major aquatic pests. If we catch these we are not allowed to throw them back in any water way, we have to throw them on the bank or some people keep them to eat. They also make excellent crab bait. I keep them from crab bait. Keep up the good fishing.

Quick question if you do not mind: regarding tying topwater lures or any lures to line, do you think it makes a difference tying the line directly to the lure versus tying a Duolock snap to the line for easy, quick lure changes? I've not seen or heard of anyone catching carp in the UK on floating lures like this. Sometimes hear of people fly fishing for carp with nymphs and blobs. I've ordered a few similar lures and hooks to try when it warms up in spring. Will be alot of fun if it works. Can't see why it wouldn't. I've got some lovely light lure setups that would make catching carp fun. I find they tend to be qute boring on the usual heavier carp rod setups. Thanks for sharing.

That’s crazy! I caught one on my blade bait once and it definitely looked like it tried to eat it! I was surprised a carp would take something moving so fast.

Carp are fun on light tackle. We even go after them with fly rods at times. Call it a poor man's bonefishing.

I have done fly fishing for carp and they're a blast!
