Fishing The Largest Hydro Electricity Reservoir On The Island Of Newfoundland

In this video I share the adventure of travelling the 4 large lakes that provide many mega watts of electricity on the island that produce a man made fish habitat for spawning to ensure future inland fish stocks for generations along with waterfowl haven!

Grand lake is largest Reservoir on the island

With Victoria Lake, Great Burnt, Granite and Mealpaeg, it's greater than Grand Lake. The head waters combined, Grand Lake only has Hinds, the area and volume of water makes the Granite canal and all connected waters far greater than Grand Lake.

Dave Wilcox Jr Outdoors only has hinds lake ?? Lol Birchy lake and sandy lake don’t count or what combined there’s over 120 miles of Continuous water way

okay, Birchy and Sandy which are nothing compared to Meelpaeg, etc. Grand Lake is the largest "single" flooded lake (hydro). The largest reservoir is not Grand Lake, sorry.

Dave Wilcox Jr Outdoors the body of water is the Reservoir grand sandy and birchy all being Essentially one lake is by far the largest if your talking about total drainage that’s different that’s the watershed that maybe bigger out there

One thing I hate doing anymore is driving to fish or hunt. So much of my early life we had to hide behind trees to stop big rainbows from landing in fry pan. Once I arrived in Alberta that stopped. We have fair to good fishing locally but trout are either a local stocked pond or catch & release. We do have some big browns but I haven't gone after them in years. The biggest problem is mercury in our reservoir fish & any river flowing from. This year with drought they hold water back & rivers are way down due to fracking & agriculture. We have lost recruitment of pike & walleye due to this as they spawn early spring & then eggs are left high & dry. They write it all down to the progress of man.

Tossdart Yes I agree, I am lucky I can fish 200 feet from my cabin here, but I always enjoy going some place else to explore. We have one lake flooded that has high mercury since it was only flooded in the past 20 years, hoping it eventually balances and the fish thrive again. The reservoir in this video is very old, so no issues with that. It is a change indeed that will make a long term impact... can't say if it is good or bad! I don't agree with fracking at all!

Dave Wilcox Jr All reservoirs & downstream rivers have too much mercury for persons of childbearing age to eat fish. As well they don't get better in anytime that counts in human terms. Please take the time & look for google pictures of the two broken pipe spills into the Red Deer River. Almost all the persons I work with knew all the game scores but not about the river. Nor could a conversation be engaged about it. If you spoke against P.C. & oil in Alberta until recently you risk a fist fight. Use your google maps & look the area North West of Rocky Mountain House. Measure the distance between oil platforms each just requires a little lake near you as Esra Levant oil prick states.
