Fishing San Luis Reservoir For Striped Bass

Спорт

Not often in the year does San Luis Reservoir produce quality stripers in the numbers. If you’re looking for an easy catch now is the time to hit San Luis Reservoir.
I launched out of Dinosaur Point at San Luis Reservoir around 7am. I started fishing for striped bass in 20-30’ of water about 100 yards in front of the dino boat launch. I could see the schools amassing but was only landing dinks stripers. I tried the same depths near lone oak bay and the basalt boat launch area with the same result. Only the dink stripers were hitting.
By mid morning, I finally tried deeper water. Even around 60-70’ I was catching smaller grade striped bass. It wasn’t until I trolled the Atlas Rigs into 80’+ of water that I began landing better quality stripers.
For the next few hours, I continued to troll the Atlas Rigs in these depths for several hookups. I had both rods go off multiple times with several doubles and a triple at one point. They’re feeding off the bottom so it’s hard to spot them on the fish finder but once they see the rigs, they reveal themselves in massive schools.
When you launch from Dino point, just head straight to the trash racks. Once you hit the 80’ depth, start trolling the rigs and you’ll hook up. Don’t forget to use your downriggers or dipsy divers to get the rigs to depth. If you’re trolling too high, they will completely ignore you. Caught over 30+ stripers to 25” by noon to end the day. Atlas Rigs killed it.
Now you know. Go get em!

I'm inspired by how easy you catch and handle downriggers and rods. I've bought several rigs and they work. I've swapped leaders out for wire ones. Awesome rigs. I've started using 12 lb balls. What size you use and recommend speeds? Thanks

What's up partner nice to see you out again. I know you handled all those strippers by yourself but it looked like you could've used a little company for all that fun. All you had to do was send an invite I would've called in sick . Keep me in mind for next time. It would be greatly appreciated
