Fishing for Kahawai at the Waimakariri River Mouth - Summer 2023/24

Спорт

Hey all,
Today started off with a fantastic sunrise and nice warm summer conditions.
At certain times many fish can be very fickle and appear to be hard to catch and that also applies to the Kahawai. One minute its full on and they are on the chew, the next minute you wonder where the heck they have gone to. As you will hear in my video, it is all about trying different fishing techniques and varying the speed you are winding at. Also the water depth plays a big part on where the fish will lie, you just need to find out where that lie is exactly.
If you enjoyed this video, please like and also subscribe to my channel.
Thanks very much.

    Nice morning there that's for sure how soft is the sand down there can a fwd car make it that far down or is it only for 4wd.

    Can be very soft in parts on the main beach and can sink down 2-3 inches on the waters edge. I would not risk takin a 2 wheel drive car down the beach. Many get stuck.

    A New Zealand fisherman without pliers. Who would have thought. Isn't that a novel idea. Try changing to single hooks and casting streamer flies.

  • @canterburyfishingadventures

    @canterburyfishingadventures

    Yes and no. If you are just after Kahawai then no licence is required. Yes you do need a license if you are targeting sea run trout or Salmon. If by chance you land a sea run trout or salmon without a licence then you must release it immediately without harm back into the river.
