This band was a huge huge HUGE influence on me, as a young black kid who loved hard rock, this was the first band that rocked out good where the members looked like me. back then the only black people you saw in rock music was the occasional drummer or bassist with a white singer and guitarist up front getting all the love.
@brendagoodman537

TheMortalez Yep I used to hear this song all the time on Z-Rock and I loved it, it was months before I knew they were black and after finding out i was even more impressed, it could not have been easy for them to get that much radio play back then, but they were just that fucking good. Sadly I think if they were white or of the vin diesel/jennifer beals variety of black they would have been even more popular. but times are changing thankfully and those things dont matter as much, as evidence by the last time I saw this band in 2009 and the crowd was a bunch of white kids who would have been babies when this video was made.

So much of their material is so fundamental. RHCP wouldn't be a thing without them. They're foundational! Saw them live on Shrooms in 2023 in PDX and they blew my mind in unspeakable ways. All I can say is I hope to see them live again soon. They're fundamental to Funk/Ska/Punk and Rock, it's shocking they haven't gotten bigger! I found out about them via Los Mal Hablados, a Skacore band in PDX. And they truly enlightened a lot to my music standards. Now I can't live without Fishbone because of them lol

Angelo Moore was handing out setlists and I finally got to geek out on playing Theremin, showed him my Theremin/pedalboard and it turns out we both played the Moog Etherwave Plus Theremin. Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! I hear the sounds of children laughing aloud A stumbling wino has attracted quite a crowd My breakfast finished now I brave the outside But clouds have hidden all the warmth inside Chase these clouds away I hate this sunless Saturday Chase these clouds away I hate this sunless Saturday Freedom come (Freedom come) For us now . (For us now) Light our sky (Light our sky) Burn away These clouds Yeah! Perhaps the charcoal grey and brown around me Is just the mirror image of tainted soul I think the sun will never visit my sky Until the truth is seen by each and every eye Whoa-oh-oh! Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Chase these clouds away I hate this sunless Saturday Freedom come (Freedom come) For us now . (For us now) Light our sky (Light our sky) Burn away These clouds I see the helpless and I see the insane I see a pauper singing in the pouring rain I see the means of help elude us again I think the sun will never visit me again Whoa-oh-oh! Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Chase these clouds away I hate this sunless Saturday Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Sunless Saturday! Oh-yeah-haa-yeah! Saturday! Saturday! Sunless Saturday! Sunless Saturday! Yeah, this song is SICK and Fishbone shoulda been HUGE in 1991 but keep in mind RHCP was an underground band back then. And so were Soundgarden, Nirvana... the list goes on and on. Only us "freaks" listened to these groups in an era when Warrant, Whitesnake, and Poison were still chart toppers. But all that stopped in October of that year. By June of 1992 everybody was singing ""Give It Away," spandex was dead, and Chris Cornell was a household name but Fishbone never got the recognition they deserved.

Hands down the best show I ever saw was Fishbone at First Avenue in Minneapolis. Think it was like 1993. The band (especially Angelo) were absolutely at full throttle giving 150% for a good 90 minutes. It was crazy the way they commanded the audience. The pit went from pure chaos to actual dancing just by playing the next song. Then back to pure chaos. There has never been anyone that can touch their live show.

I just saw them play in Santa Cruz w/ Les Claypool and the Frog Brigade. They still have all the urgency and energy that they’ve always had! Angelo Moore was handing out setlists and I finally got to geek out on playing Theremin, showed him my Theremin/pedalboard and it turns out we both played the Moog Etherwave Plus Theremin. So much positivity and sincerity from him. 😊

This album was one of those "headphone albums" for me. Plug in, tune everything else out and let this one soak in. Man, they were at the peak of their powers here! Such a great point in time for music. Living Colour, 24-7 Spyz, Follow for Now and the mighty Fishbone. What great memories.

Hands down the best show I ever saw was Fishbone at First Avenue in Minneapolis. Think it was like 1993. @@emsafeman snl took it down because they had banned them from the show.... Because Angelo wore a hemp suit with a pot leaf motif after being told not to...... They join a long list of banned (by snl) artists including RATM and Cypress Hill....
