FISH4FUN: SPOONBILL CATFISH ANOTHER WAY TO SNAG THEM

Спорт

It's April and Spoonbill Snagging Season in Missouri is in full swing. I was able to get Captain Anthony Ford to take some time out from his busy guiding responsibilities and let me make a video.

    Love snagging in warsaw killed it this year there last couple days of the season..(only complaint I have about that area is a bunch of inconsiderate boaters that don't care if they run over you line or how close they get when u have the right away) last year wasn't the best for us we tried osage river below the dam but did catch the biggest one in my life that trip 78 lbs... can't wait for next spring.. good luck guys nice video and set up!!! Thanks for sharing!!! U see a blue and white spectrum pontoon out give us a wave!!

    when you cut all the dark meat out and cartilage, skin etc. coat em a bit in corn meal & it frys up white as cotton and tastes like best pure Catfish flavor ever and ya gotta force yourself to stop eating it before ya explode. says all my friends & family that enjoyed fish frys with my catches when I caught em with friends before. all other fish pales in comparison. we filet tail ends in sandwich size pieces then make fingers/sticks of forward portions after cutting horse shoe slices about 1" thick and removing spin hole leaving 2 sticks of each horseshoe slice. after soaking in salt water at least an hour or overnight in frig, use plastic ice-cream style buckets full of clean water to store parts in and snap lids on and freeze till use then set in frig night b4 cooking so ready. same as my buddys done for years with all cleaned Fish. that way it wont freezer burn from contact with air.

  • @N2RI1

    @N2RI1

    5 жыл бұрын

    I prefer a different method of cleaning them with less wasted meat and easier to see/remove the outer Red 'V' shaped vein of meat etc when you skin the Fish like other Catfish, shave the Red/dark strip done center of each side then take a 'V' slice to remove the deeper part of the dark meat. gut and cut Head almost off then twist the cartilage in half exposing spinal cord pull it out (cut tail off if need be) then we cut hollow cavity front part in to the Horseshoe slices as stated above and filet rear half as stated above. you also can just gut the Fish and remove head and spinal cord while at water to toss them in for bottom feeders etc. place the rest in a water bucket and take home if nearby to finish cleaning if weather is bad for doing it on site. I like using my ol faithful Falcon brand 10.5" Filet Knife purchased at Wal-Mart back when Sam was still living and only sold great items made in USA at low prices.

    Donnie, Spoonbill feed on microscopic vegetation and you can only catch them by snagging or netting them, which is illegal in Missouri. Check my playlists or my videos on my home page, I have several Spoonbill videos since my nephew is one of the top Spoonbill guides in Missouri. You can also check his web site at catfishingguide.com and see several pictures and videos. Thanks for stopping by and let me know if I can answer any more questions.

    here in TN we are allowed three hooks per line and it can be treble if we want. Its pretty bizarre how different each states regs are. Like apparently in Cali some dude told me that they can only use 1 pole unless they pay extra for another where here we can have as many as we want basically.

    in MO its limit 2 poles per licensed fisherman age 16-65 and spoonbill daily limit of 2. and yes even MO has been changing rules each year the last decade on hunting & fishing with very strange codes some that used to be illegal for years now go back and forth each season. as if trying to get people.

    David, you are 100% right. We grew up calling them Spoonbill Catfish and I often call them that without thinking. Thank you for the heads up and thanks for watching my videos.
