This makes me appreciate where I live and that I fly fish. This looks like my worst fishing nightmare being shoulder to shoulder with that many people. I am spoiled to have world class fishing and few people on the river. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for posting

Ebub, we have fantastic fishing in Missouri with thousands of acres of lakes, thousands of miles of beautiful streams to float but, our climate doesn't lend itself to trout fishing except in large springs like Bennett and tail race water below large dams. Even then we do not have natural spawning and have to depend on hatcheries to stock them. Thanks so much for stopping by and taking your time to respond to my channel.

Thanks Tim. Sharon Is having foot surgery on each foot. She has some very painful bunions. She will have about 6 weeks of recovery for each one. She should still be able to troll which is what she loves to do. And, yes, trout fishermen are a very close knitted and determined group. Thanks again, you are a very special viewer.

When they release that magnitude of fish having so many people there really doesn't make it difficult at all. Can't wait to try. I usually fish on a rental bass boat at table rock lake. Fishing for bass is our family thing! But seriously looks like fun to try on the opening release day

Dave, what a wonderful comment. This is a prime example of why I continue to make the videos. Only a minority of KZread viewers like the "whole story" type videos as opposed to the short snippets, but this is what I like and those who follow my videos seem to really enjoy them. And, when I get comments like this it gives me more confidence to do what I do. I will never make the big membership numbers but I truly love my followers and this is who I am. Thanks so much for your loyal support.

Best trout fishing I ever had was in the Rockies west of Denver. I was helping a guy break down his camp before it got snowed in and I heard running water. He said it was just a small stream they got their water from. It was only about two feet wide and the deepest holes were only knee deep. I got my ultralight out with a 1/32 oz hair jig and tried my luck. I immediately started catching Brookies. Everywhere I cast I was catching them. An hour later the snow was coming down harder, so I had to leave the trout. I didn't take any with me as I had plenty at home. But, that one hour will stay with me the rest of my life. It's moments like this that make pleasurable memories, not combat fishing.

Trout fishing isn't my cup of tea and I wouldn't dare go anywhere near a trout park on March 1st - but it is great seeing so many people getting excited about fishing - more power to them!!! The recovery time is approximately 6 weeks. She should still be able to troll though, and that's what she like to do the most. So, we will make the best of it and be thankful it isn't some type of life threatening problem. Thanks again Dewayne for always coming along.

This is a celebration that started during the horse and buggy days when we didn't have TV's and all the entertainment that's available. They are in rural areas and people would gather to fish and picnic etc. It developed into a celebration that became a tradition over the years. The rest of the year they fish like everybody else. @@jerryrouth6115 yeah we use to have opening day, now we have what is called Heritage Day where the Department of Game close fishing access for a week to 20 streams and or lakes. They stock all week to allow fish to spread out and not get instant fishing pressure. This year is April 6th at 9 am when you can fish the Heritage waters which has the opening day feel somewhat. Virginia now does October 1 through June 15 (trout license required). A trout license is not required from June 16 through September 30. June 16th - Sept 30th has a few Daily $8 streams that are stocked 4 times a week plus 1 week on Trophy sized fish stocking at two Wildlife Management Areas. So we can fish all year in various way. Really enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work.

Brian, go back to the rural areas where the 4 state parks are located. Go back 100 years and ride a horse and buggy to spend some time with other people. Go back to a time when there wasn't much to do but work. Then the springs were stocked and people started collecting there and eating on the ground and visiting and catch the only trout available to them. This is a tradition, a tailgate party handed down for generations. The rest of the state has trout fishing open all year and the other 364 days these people fish like everyone else. You feel exactly like I do. I love Taneycomo also. Also, when the tradition started at Bennerr attendance was a lot lower and a group of 100 was large. It has evolved over the years to what it is now. My wife had foot surgery on the 5th of March and is having a difficult time with it. It is a very painful type of surgery. She is gradually getting better but won't have the pins taken out until one month from surgery. She should be ready to fish when it gets warm and she don't fish in cold weather anyway. I was making fun of it at first too like everyone else here but for the less mobile people, they must love it!

Most of the people watching this video didn't realize that this event is a celebration of opening day. If they had to fish this way every time they would all quit fishing LOL. Thanks for your understanding and comment.

I'm glad I don't live in a state with fishing seasons. We can fish any species year round in Arkansas.

I have fished Arkansas for 70 years and that is not true. You have some daily fee fishing too. This type of fishing is only at private lakes and springs at four state parks. The rest of our fishing is open all year with some restrictions on when you can keep fish. Thanks for watching FISH4FUN.

I don't know where you're fishing in Arkansas, but it's legal to take any species year round on public waters. If I want to trout fish in July I can. I've lived here my whole life, and fish avidly. We don't have specific seasons for fishing.

Looks like what I call Combat Fishing....You've really got to want to fish awfully bad to put up with this congestion!! I did the shoulder to shoulder thing one time in Alaska for the opening of King Salmon Season....very unique Xperience!!

Like I said in the video, if this was the only way to fish we would all stop fishing LOL. But for one day each year it is a blessing and a credit to our sport. And you are a blessing to FISH4FUN with your fantastic support of my channel.

WOW! I've been anxiously awaiting this video and you once again did onto disappoint! What a GREAT video! I loved all of it. The tour of the store was something else. I've never seen anything like it, everything a trout could want and coffee for those brave enough to weather the cold! The fishing folk looked like they were having a blast! Never seen anything like that either. Great job Mr. Routh! Pls. tell the Mrs. that my thoughts and prayers are with her for her upcoming surgery. Take care.

Sue, you hit on the essence of the video. It is the once a year thing where people meet old friends and fishing buddies and share lies and plan trips and share stories of the past. Many of the people plan their vacations around this event. Fishing is so much more than just catching fish. Thanks for the kind words and insight.

The stocking is done on a fractional basis and is determined by the number of tickets sold the previous day. On weekends and holidays they put in more based on anticipated sales. Thanks buddy.

Thx for taking the time and making this video. I love to see how people fish in different places. Is this the most popular trout hole in the state? Are there other waters that have this many people on opener? All stockers? any wild fish?

Fishing in the 4 state parks is actually a small part of trout fishing in Missouri. These are large volume springs. We have trout on a annual fishing permit basis on hundreds of miles of streams and large rivers below dams on several large reservoirs. Thanks for watching and that is an excellent question.
