Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hello Everyone,
In this video we compare fish tank backgrounds. Is it better to leave the back alone, buy a background from a store or paint the back of a fish tank? We look at the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you figure out what will make your tank and fish look their best.

When I get tanks from the Petco: $1/gallon deal, I just save the cardboard box it comes in because the dimensions are about the same as the front and back glass panels. Then I just quickly spray paint it to my color of choice and voila, a super cheap background! If you already have paint on hand, then it’s basically free.

I buy tanks already backed with blue or black, acrylics. The glass tanks I keep open on all sides or back them with a generic paper backing from lfs. Paint is permanent and could decrease the value of a tank, or the desirability of a tank. Paper leaves the option open to paint later, or let someone else decide. I don't plan to sell may tanks but at some point will downsize due to age. No time soon. lol. Great video. Thanks.

I personally use black plasti dip spray paint, easy to spray and do coats and super super easy to remove without any tools, just peel it off. It is waterproof and actually protects the glass to some degree. It feels almost like a latex coating. I strongly recommend it, you'll also need about 2 or 3 good coats to make it solid, it's about $6 or $7 a can.

Most of my tanks are acrylic, so I order them with a black background. My smaller glass tanks are painted with a layer of mint green made to look like Amazon sword plants(very rough, like a 4 year old) maybe add a splotch of pink here and there. (like a flower) Then I paint a few layers of black over the entire back. Once you add plants or wood or rocks, you don’t see my lousy artwork, you see different levels of brightness in the back of the tank. You can also just paint a green camo pattern on the background instead. The sky is the limit, so paint whatever look you want!!! Great video!

I do the back of my show tanks using the same technique that is used to sponge paint a wall. I put on two or three shades of grey using the sponge, and then spray paint over the top with either a darker or lighter shade of grey. It gives it somewhat of a 3-D effect, and it looks sort of like rock.

Perfect timing Jason. My wife and I were just discussing this over dinner last night. I had her watch the video too. Looks like we'll be painting the tanks for our _Apisto Project._ I already have some Rust-Oleum cans left over from some previous 2A builds. Have you had any experience with their products as fish tank backgrounds? Rust-Oleum is very flat in color which I'm guessing is a better option than glossy for the tanks. Keep up the good work my friend. *Again - my apologies for the double spacing. I swear it's only single spacing as I'm typing this out.

I have a tank that I put tin foil on the back. It has a very interesting look; and I think reflects light back into the tank if you are growing plants. Like all applied backgrounds it can be a hassle to get it attached if the tank is already close to a wall, but you can't get much cheaper. Again, thanks for the topic and down to earth suggestions, not just high end manufactured backgrounds.

Were talking home Aquaria so i think painting them should be a no as it leaves you with options. Black Background poster and substrate seems to have been the main for years, but lets be honest, its tedious to see now lol, black shows up colors well but to me it also makes the Tank interior look smaller. Clear, to me is the new modern way as long as your set up is right to get the crisp look, ofcourse this leaves you with many options to change as well, inlike if you paint the back black like every other tank you see your left with that look forever lol

  • @williamjansson

I'll try to translate it from our agriculturedepartment of goverment. Planning a aquarium is very important......_ Should_ not be smaller then 40L (~10gal) height and dept adjusted to the spices of fish. Round Bowls are _not_ allowed, all aquariums shall have one side covered for the fish to feel safe and have a secure part of the aquarium, decoration _Have_ to help the fish find secure places, caves, hideouts within the tank. All tanks _shall_ have a substrate to mimic the natural livingspace for the fish. You have to have good waterquality and food to feed your fish. If i read between the lines, id say. Its set to have a minimum requariement for aninalcare so if someone is to break it, the animalcare department and or lawinforcement can step in and act for the wellbeing for the animals.

  • @williamjansson

Top tip for applying paper/printed backgrounds: Give the glass a light spray of cooking oil then position the background agsinst the glass. Use a credit card to slowly push any air bubbles out working your way from the centre out towards the edges. Once all the bubbles have been removed wipe off any excess oil then tape the background in place using duct tape. You now have a bubble free background that will stay in place for years & water cannot get between the background & the glass. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE MICE OR ANT PROBLEMS AROUND YOUR HOME AS IT WILL ATTRACT THEM TO THE TANK. PS: I paint all my tanks these days.

If you decorate your tank with enough hardscape, driftwood, and plants, you really do not need a background since you do not see it anyway. Big rocks and plants in the background can cover most or all of the tank. Just saying that is one way to go..... Also if you use a Matten corner filter you do not see any of the wires, filters, heater, etc. Good video. But just wanted to give another slant on the no background senerio....
