The coastal province of Fujian is currently grappling with the aftermath of Typhoon Haikui. This weather event has brought torrential rains across various parts of the region, resulting in extensive waterlogging in numerous urban and rural areas.
Residents of Fuzhou, one of the worst-hit cities, have reported interruptions in basic services. Water and electricity outages have become common in certain parts, causing significant inconvenience. Businesses too have been affected by the typhoon's impact. In one notable instance, a luggage manufacturing facility saw its warehouse inundated by floodwaters, leading to the loss of a majority of its stock.
Further highlighting the severity of the storm, a bridge in Putian City, which had stood for over four decades, succumbed to the intense floods and collapsed.
In response to these adverse conditions, local authorities in Fuzhou initiated preventive measures. Educational institutions, ranging from kindergartens to middle schools and vocational training centers, announced temporary closures. Public transportation, including buses and the metro system, were halted to prioritize the safety of the populace.
The Fujian Meteorological Bureau, recognizing the potential threat posed by Typhoon Haikui, promptly issued warnings. They anticipated prolonged periods of heavy rainfall across large parts of Fujian and kept the public updated on the situation.
