  • @TMAquatics

    I talk about this in a video that’s dropping later this week. Most spawns in my fish room are in the 1.5” D-cave from pleco caves dot com. I recently added 60 small caves from pleco ceramics, which is also a nice size for many hypans. They do take a while to receive since they ship from Ukraine.

    Most filters are cleaned every 1-2 months. Just depend on the tank, bio load and the amount of waste being produced. For tanks not on auto water change, I perform 50% water change on each tank weekly. The 9 tanks that are on auto water change receive anywhere from 50-100% turnover each week.

  • @CrazyAquariumGuy

    @@TMAquatics It shows. I don't clean my filters that often. But I am a big believer in big waterchanges. 50-70%. Plus I love when it looks crystal clear. 🙂

    #Replaycrew so Tom, you are only a month behind in getting this video out?? Honestly, been there, done that. I hope we get to see more fantastic videos as this one. I enjoy watching because each and every time I learn a lot about the fish you keep. Will you be doing more with your red pencil fish? It sounded as though that tank was going to be shut down also? I have had orange laser Cory's for a couple years now and have only been able to get a few fry. I don't know what I'm doing wrong other than probably not giving them enough attention. There's so many things going on in the fish room that sometimes there are little tanks here and there that get neglected.

  • @TMAquatics

    @TMAquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks Mike. I’m done with the Pencilfish. Gorgeous little fish, but that tank got neglected and I slowly lost a bunch over time. They did really good when I kept current with water changes, etc. Those that were moved into the fish room are doing better and spawning, but I don’t really focus on them. Not sure if I will tear down the 75, use for grow outs, or something else. Eventually I would like to see only plecos in my fish room. Nothing else.

    So you have 3 from my top 7 plecos. Congrats man, I really think you should split up the L236 like you said. I have a swedish friend. He has amazing L236 super whites. He gets 3-4x times the amount aganst L146... Beacuse the best quality is still super rare....

  • @TMAquatics

    It’s hard to find the really high quality Super Whites here in the states. Most people aren’t willing to pay the price. I do have a source in the UK, but I’m not sure if I want to assume the risk of importing at this point. Jorge at Nationwide aquatics usually brings in some decent fish and the prices have been reasonable.

    Angel Fish are lame fish anyways... not sure why anyone breeds them or keeps them...

  • @TMAquatics

    @TMAquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    They’re one of the most popular fish in the hobby, but yes, easy to breed, and everyone does it. I had an LFS that was willing to take most of the past spawns. With a low cost to grow out, and receiving $600-800 in store credit, it pays for a lot of fish food. Unfortunately he not interested in taking any more and I’m stuck with a bunch. I can safely say I will never breed angelfish again.

  • @rickgrimezz3942

    @rickgrimezz3942

    @@TMAquatics Now when you say popular fish.. you mean popular with beginner/novice keepers... which end up as toilet fodder. Angel fish are popular with new "petsmart" tank buyers.... not advanced or even moderate fisk keepers. Now if you are talking about sustaining your operation with a niche unload mechanism... thats great... but you cant rely on that stuff... and to be honest... it would be better if you only dealt in specialty fish only. Everyday toilet fodder fish, may give you a short term loop you can exploit... but your long term issue remains... where are your High Dollar Items... your hot ticket fish that are considered RARE/Hard to source... SO many fish keepers fall victim to under capitalization and thus need to make consessions to keep their hobby/habbit/source of income alive... like selling garbage fish to keep the lights on... then you are handcuffed to the never endinig cycle of selling toilet fodder fish. I like your setup though...I enjoy the content... Keep up the great work... I wish you a season of plentiful spawns. Be well brother!
