Switching to Krill oil for only one month, it came down to 135. Many fishoil brands now have on their labels that EPA+DHA in TG-form...can you guess why?😅

Too bad we don't have results with EPA only fish oil and no statins in the picture. It feels like this study was paid for by statins companies and they mixed in EPA fish oil to get the good results. Talk about blurring the picture. That is not directed at the good Dr Ritter of course. I'm thankful to him for showing us his interest in EPA fish oil anyway.

Great discussion Doc! And good to see you again. Even though my triglycerides are perfect on low-dose Crestor and a calcium score of 505 years ago I'm trying to convince my doctor to prescribe the fish oil for me. I'm lucky to have an excellent prescription drug plan and would only be about twenty bucks for a three-month home delivery. But I have a feeling the insurance might deny it.

I'm 74yo with 63 Triglycerides, my best ever. Maybe because of Rosuvastatin 10 mg nightly. My summer lipid panel is my best in 15 years (all in the healthy zone). I've been on 90% Keto food since Jan 2017 and still feeling great. But the bad news is my calcium scan score of 1300 one year ago this month. A few months later I easily passed a stress test. (Which proves absolutely nothing about your blood flow restriction until it reaches 70%). My PCD prescribed fish oil, (1,000mg) a few years ago, which I purchased myself. But, since I don't like it much, I've been taking 1,000mg sometimes and sometimes 500mg when I don't notices the tiny fine print says "1,000 mg in two servings". I'm going to read these studies and then ask my doctor about getting another scan score, and if there is no improvement, I'll ask her about VASCEPA instead of OTC fish oil.. (2 g of icosapent ethyl twice daily). Heck, I might reach 80 if I start taking fish oil seriously.

@@bartrobinson2103 oh, yea, I'm not saying it has no benefit. Rather I'm saying in most cardiovascular type trials/studies they either haven't studied it or it didn't seem to work as well. I've not actually looked at the mental effects much. I imagine there are pleiotropic benefits. From the fact the brain is composed of a lot of FAs to it possibly reducing atherosclerotic plaque in the brain. Probably BDNF and some other things it helps as well such as resolvins and protectins as well but as I'm only 42 I've been more interested in surviving that 40 to 50 CVD death that seems to spike vs dementia and mental decline 30 years from now. Not that they're not important but I also feel that what I do to maintain cardio and metabolic health will have some carry over. I'll be at 1 year of fairly strict IF/OMAD/lose carb and need to get my blood work done to see if it's improving markers (the real ones, not "basic LDL")

I was on steroids for another reason and when I rode my bicycle very hard for 50 miles --- I was unbeatable and had no pain. I was riding up/down marginal grade hills and my spinning speed was almost a steady 18 miles per hour --- where without the steroids it was around 14 to 16 mph. After being taken off of steroids -- I felt like dying on my rides so I had to slow the amount of energy expended in my muscles. After a year of trying over the counter supplements to take the place of the steroids such as coq10 at 30mg 3x a day -- I wasn't making much headway in speed so I ran across the Hi Performance coq10 called Ubiquinol and found it definitively would replace the steroids so for the first year I took 100mg/day and usually that meant 4 days/week. That''s how many times/week I rode my route and that meant a 50 miler once per week. I found I was going faster but not as fast as I thought I could so I upped my dose to 200mg 4x/week and since that really worked out I went to 300mg/day and did that for 3 months until finally my heart started hurting each time I took the Ubiquinol 300mg until I finally was declared to be having a heart attack by the Paramedics and was taken to the Heart Institute and had 3 stints put into my LAD and the pain was no more and I felt refreshed to life....The doctor said I had suffered very, very little damage to the inside heart wall and the rest was good to go so within the month I was back on the bicycle doing 50 milers -- with no pain -- but, back to an hour and half one way in the first 18.5 miles at the lower 14 mph speed. I had suffered a LAD tear and the Ubiquinol definately fixed it -- but, all too well and built up the calcium plaque to the point of clogging my up - so I take ONLY EPA fish oils now with no pain so far and I take No coq10 either since now I know that stuff really dose fix your arteries and heart....more than needed in my opinion.
