Scuba dive has changed my perspective towards animals deeply. Went from a voracious meat eater to vegetarian, went from believing that animals where just responding to instincts, to actually see that there was something beyond that. I’ve seen octopi meeting my gaze, looking straight into my eyes and reach with their tentacles out of pure curiosity. Sometimes even getting playful. I’ve seen a sea turtle asking for help to get fishing gear removed from a fin. I’ve seen moray eels getting familiar with me after visiting their hiding spot many times in a row… If we could manage to step out from our own bubble just a bit and see and listen to all those around us… We would be so much different.

Octopus in particular are exceptionally intelligent. Fine motor skills require high brain power, it’s why humans are so smart. Need a lot of brain power to work these hands so deftly. So imagine being able to move and do things with 8 arms. Octopus are one big wet hand. Pretty cool!

They all feel and have a personality we just overcomplicate things and these days people think they need to talk and talk all the time to express how they feel but they don't... it only takes 1 facial expression or gesture to understand what someone means you just have to get used to it for each person, these days people take it so out of context as if it doesn't mean something innocent that it isn't simply what it is so people have lost touch with such simple communication cos they know it's actually very easy to form bonds without saying anything at all. Animals just continue to remind us of that.

I used to have a male Beta named Ghost. He was a very light blue that faded to white at his full "plumage". Can't remember how it started, but if I or my wife put the tip of our finger in the tank (10 gallon), he would come over and brush against it like a cat, even wagging his tail in place showing excitement. He wouldn't do it for anyone else. It did not matter if it was pre feeding, after, during, or in between. I have always enjoyed aquariums for relaxation, responsibility, beauty, and even a sense of accomplishment but, Ghost was my best little buddy. I really miss him.

I remember when I was a kid, my family took me to Aruba. When I was out swimming in the ocean, a beautiful fish about the size of a tea saucer swam up to me and booped my arm. It swam a few feet away and I went over to it to boop its fin. We then proceeded to play tag, where I would touch the fish and swim away, and then the fish would boop me and swim away. My parents were absolutely hysterical, they couldn't believe a wild creature would be so playful and social

Everyone told me fish were incapable of affection too, but that is NOT true. I made friends with a trout that loved being touched and rubbed. He would gently take food from my hand and follow me around like this fish. even from the bank, I could tap on a rock and he came as fast as he could swim. So, stories like this definitely bring back special memories. It's like receiving a rare gift from nature.

Fish (fly-replete, in depth of June, Dawdling away their wat'ry noon) Ponder deep wisdom, dark or clear, Each secret fishy hope or fear. Fish say, they have their Stream and Pond; But is there anything Beyond? This life cannot be All, they swear, For how unpleasant, if it were! One may not doubt that, somehow, Good Shall come of Water and of Mud; And, sure, the reverent eye must see A Purpose in Liquidity. We darkly know, by Faith we cry, The future is not Wholly Dry. Mud unto mud!--Death eddies near-- Not here the appointed End, not here! But somewhere, beyond Space and Time, Is wetter water, slimier slime! And there (they trust) there swimmeth One Who swam ere rivers were begun, Immense, of fishy form and mind, Squamous, omnipotent, and kind; And under that Almighty Fin, The littlest fish may enter in. Oh! never fly conceals a hook, Fish say, in the Eternal Brook, But more than mundane weeds are there, And mud, celestially fair; Fat caterpillars drift around, And Paradisal grubs are found; Unfading moths, immortal flies, And the worm that never dies. And in that Heaven of all their wish, There shall be no more land, say fish.

While snorkeling in Hawaii we saw some very friendly fish that would stay by us. Some were very playful. If we turned over small rocks they liked that and would nudge us to turn over more rocks. It was pretty cool.

Having fish as an adult has opened my eyes to how cognizant and sentient they really are. My fish would swim up to the glass when I approached the tank and then swim along to follow me as I walked past. It wasn’t just at feeding time either. It was hard forming a bond with them because they’re so fragile in aquariums, so every time I could see one getting sick I treated them as best I could, but it was really sad when they passed anyway.

A friend of ours had a goldfish in a little tank, he really interacted with too. Whenever he got visitors, the fish started to plash on the water with its tail and when our friend didn't react to that, he jumped out of the tank on the carpet, knowing his human friend would get up to save him and thus getting the desired attention.

There are very smart animals out there! It's adorable to see this small fish greet this lady more than once and shows her a 'gift' - beautiful!

My father was a deep sea diver in the Navy. When he returned home he started a diving club here in Northern Minnesota. Every time he would go into Lake Irvine, he would rap on his tank and a fish would come and swim with him every time. The fish would swim ahead and lead him, but stay near for companionship.

Um no its more like humans only think land animals and very few highly intelligent sea creatures like whales and dolphins of being capable of forming those kind of bonds (I guess sea mammals) no one expects a fish to be like that it's like expecting a lizard or a bird randomly showing that kind of behavior towards a human without being fed
