In this video I show you the steps I took to install my Lowrance Hook 2 7 with splitshot transducer on my Perception Outlaw 11.5 fishing kayak.

    Hey man great video, I have the exact kayak and fish finder. I was able to find the ball mount but having issues finding the rod that goes up to the fish finder. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Its the 8th link in the video description. Which is a whole kit. It comes with the arm, the base (a screw on base), and the top mounting bracket to mount the gimble on.The only difference is that I did not use the base that came with it. I used the perception solo mount ram ball instead which is the 2nd link in the description. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Great Video How long does your battery last. I have ordered the same Hook 2 7 and never had a Fish Finder before so doing some research on them. Thanks and I have the same Yak and setting it up and your video is a great help. Especially some of the links to things like mounts needed.

    The battery that I used lasts a long time. I have never had it die on me yet and have used it for at least 2 consecutive trips without changing it. I have also used that battery in the battery box I made to run the underwater green light that I made. As well as running a 120vac inverter that was running the Christmas lights on my golf cart. Thanks for watching, glad I could help.

    The main purpose for the hook 2 7 for me on my kayak was the GPS and the water temperature. Places I fish here in FL are what we call skinny water. Meaning shallow. So keep in mind that the shallow water produces a smaller radar cone and won’t let you see much. It will show you bottom and stuff though. The water here is really murky and impossible to see the bottom so the hook 2 7 is good for me to see drop offs and depth change. For me in the kayak a fish finder isn’t going to really locate fish except for when I am in deep enough water. (Usually not the case for me, but might be the case for you). In my area the salt water creeks twist and turn and branch off into other creeks so much it is easy to get confused. Lol. That’s when the GPS comes in handy. You can use it to backtrack or see other paths. Water temperature is also important.

    Hey, where did you get that bracket? I have the same kayak and trying to figure out how to get my transducer to stay in place. This bracket would definitely do it haha

    When I ordered the transducer it came with the bracket. I think you can also find just the bracket on Amazon. Because I was going to order the bracket separately but I seen that the transducer came with one.

    We’re this mount goes over the ram mount hole area for the perception did you have to drill holes to mount it to the kayak?

  • @yakyappers

    @yakyappers

    No, just remove the cap that is over the hole for the center ram mount, and twist the ram mount into the hole on the kayak. All the ram mount parts are threaded. There was no drilling into the kayak for this installation.

    Approx. how many hours are you getting with the battery power for your Lowrance Hook?

    Welll let’s just say that with the battery that I used in this install I have not killed yet. I have been on the water with this set up for at least 8 hours straight running the hook 2 7 constantly and not had a problem. Though I do put it on a trickle charger that charges and maintains the charge when it is not in use.

    Awesome video man! Where did you get that metal bracket for the transducer ? Did it come with the unit or did you have to buy separately? I have a humminbird helix 5 and need one of these brackets as my brackets holes are way t close together to fit the outlaws holes

    When I bought the spare transducer for the kayak it came with the mounting bracket. However it is the same bracket that originally came packaged with the Lowrance unit. I have the original bracket that came with the Lowrance unit on my 20’ boat with the triple shot transducer. I think some of the brackets available on Amazon are somewhat universal so you may check there. Or maybe you can make an adapter that fits the holes out of some thin galvanized tin? Use some 1/4- 20 bolts to tie them together?

    Do you know the dimensions of the area where the transducer goes? Or is there any way you would be able to get me those measurements? I ordered my kayak and a fishfinder, but I fear the transducer might be too large for the cutout they have, so I might have to pick up a different fish finder.

  • @yakyappers

    It’s about 7.5” long and 3.75” wide and 2” deep. However where the mounting bracket is only give you about 5” of room length wise. What fishfinder did you get?

    Ahh is it a long transducer? My lowrance has a triple shot transducer that I have on my 20’ boat so I just bought the split shot transducer to put on my kayak. This way I could use the same head unit. I didn’t want to buy another whole complete unit for the kayak.
