First Whitefish of 2019!!! - Ice Fishing Lake Simcoe

Today I got to use my new Frabill Aegis 2110 on the ice for the very first time. It weighs in at 60lbs without any gear (around 80lbs with my gear). I should've built a smitty for this hut because I learned today it was brutal dragging it out in the thick snow. We must've walked 1.5+km out in a foot of fresh snow, that wasn't fun.
When we got to our spot I quickly drilled my holes and started to drop my baits. After marking a few fish and trying out a few baits (vibrato, 1/4 meeg, 1/4 drifter) I settled with a 1/2 meeg. Fish would come in, take notice and stick around. I must've missed 3 fish in 30mins while I was distracted fixing my hut.
I stopped what I was doing and needed to clear my floor from snow. My next purchase will be a small shovel. Once I had the snow cleared I was finally focused. The first mark I had I hooked into. I would tap the bottom lightly waiting for my meeg to get sucked up.
I landed 3 whitefish and missed 6 takes. Had 3 lakers rise to my top bait but I was to late to react. Overall it was a good day, our group landed 10 whitefish and missed a bunch.
My first ice fishing season with all the gear and I'm loving it. I hope we have a long ice fishing season this year.

Lee Lantern it’s a nice hut but I ended up selling it. I would’ve kept it if it was full thermal. I ended up buying a Otter XT Hideout... it’s full thermal but not as much space as the Frabill aegis

jam1971 M I try. I don’t drive so it’s nice to have friends who are willing to take you out fishing. I mostly fish urban waters.

I wanted to cut down on weight because I walk to my spots. Each seat felt like they were 10lbs each with the metal frames and brackets

Nice whitefish Pump. Good size too. Was going to try ice fishing for bows out east but got called in to work and now with the melt, not sure how safe the ice is at the marina. Glad you got into a couple fish my friend.

True North Angler thanks. I’m not sure how much rain they got but if they got the same amount of rain we did it’s not gonna be safe. My river has running water and washed out all the ice

Jim J I was having GoPro issues the past few months, I just updated my GoPro with the hero 7. I have a opener vid I’ll post in a week. Fishing was a bit tough today, water had dropped and cleared up. I couldn’t get them on the drift

How do you find the front vertical angle of that flip over? Back when I seen it in store, I found Frabill flip over have too steep of a front vertical wall compare to other brands. It's wide but ...

xxgg I had to move my sled a few times to figure out a good distance so I didn’t hit the front when I’d set the hook. This is my first flip over and I didn’t know it was gonna be a issue. Also I had to downside the length of my rod from 36 to a 30.
