    BTW,the reason you get up these hills a little better than with the 4 Runner is because of the longer wheelbase-not the power.The 4 Runner is as capable as anything you could drive if geared correctly.

    Thanks Jason, the change from a 4Runner to a diesel truck was the right diction for you and your family. I thought about the 4Runner too (which I found your channel). But many others talked about the same, the lack of power, the not so great MPG and the 5 speed gear box. To change this, you have to spend extra money, only to feel comfortable with all the extra weight. I think with a truck, you have more options...

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie MegaCab with the off-road package(hill descent assist, skid plates, locking axles, and the front and rear linked suspension). When I don't need it to tow anymore I really want to rig it out similar to what you're running now. I now the MegaCab is going to be longer and I'll have to plan my trips better, but my passengers have always been comfortable reclining back there and the storage behind the seat is great. The 4Runner does feel underpowered but much of that has to do with how it is geared and when it shifts. Drive it in sport shift mode and control your shifting and it’s a very different experience. Let the computer shift for you and yes, it feels like a dog. Also, if you load it down with a couple thousand pounds of mods and a trailer...there’s going to be a negative impact on performance. As for the Dodge, personally I don’t find it interesting. But part of the adventure is trying new things, so I get that.

    They’re under powered but its even worse when they get overloaded with silly 200+ lb tents and 800+ lb worth of overbuilt bumpers and pointless over done drawer systems with kitchens and huge refrigerators... how did we all manage to get out there all these years without all this “overland gear” ? Do your rig and your wallet a favor, keep it simple, pict a 5lb $300 tent, strap down the small fridge you dont need a huge one, get a small hybrid bunker to carry your winch instead of these ridiculous steel monstrosities that weigh 300+ lbs and only provide protection to the 1/4 front of a $200 part.

    Somehow, I "accidentally" clicked on your portrait and it took me to your channel which had some of your previous comments shown. Curiosity got me and I clicked on one. You pretty much made the same comment in a previous video. Saying something about getting rid of his BMW and getting a dodge because he was tired of reliability issues and dodges aren't reliable blah blah blah. The fact that you have never owned a dodge but your parents did 30 years ago and your sister having a Chrysler minivan kind of explains your lack of specifics in your comment, "it's a dodge, the possibilities are endless" regarding the Ram. What I'm saying is I'm not sure you really know how reliable rams are or aren't. I've had two of them. An 08 and currently an 11, both with the 6.7 Cummins. I will say that the 08 burnt up the clutches in the OD/UD hub at one point. I pulled the trans and rebuilt it in a weekend in the garage and was back on the road. I didn't have any issues with it after that and I have had zero issues with the 11. You might call me a fanboy. I think that's what the internet kids are calling it? But that would be inaccurate. I have also owned Nissan's, Subaru's, jeeps and a Ford. Here soon I will be getting a 2013+ Audi S4. Ive also supported my wife's decision to by an 07 335i that dynoed 401whp in the past and recently her plans to get a 2019 4Runner TRD Pro to build for overlanding. Looking forward to that one. So, I don't really know what I'm trying to get at at this point but unless you have actual experience with a vehicle don't automatically hate it just because.

    It's really apples and oranges. In the USA going car camping (what Jason and others call "overlanding") the Ram is a fine choice. Frankly most minivans would do pretty well too. It's not particularly reliable, but who cares? Will it ever go out of cell signal? Nope. So broken down means a phone call and a tow truck. That's really nothing at all like breaking down in Uganda. I think there's a fairly reasonable market for a full size truck setup for car camping. And if your needs are better served by a car camping in a larger truck - the PW is a pretty solid choice.

    A bit of advise, don't go too nuts with that go pedal flailing over loose rocks and stuff up hill, with that much torque and those big tires you can spin those axle tubes. CAD is also a tender spot. Truss'm and have the tubes welded. Thuren has a decent kit, Carli probably does too. Then again, I'm just here for the newb carnage that is bound to happen.

  • @donleamon8653

    @donleamon8653

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@FOTORNR - damage usually happens from axle hop while under heavy power, manual transmission CTD RAMS especially so, bending can happen at the CAD when bottoming out or hitting a rock. Some of the plug welds from AAM have been known to have poor penetration. Not sure what kind of bump stops AEV puts in as part of their Prospector builds and who know what Exp1 did if anything. (I have a pretty dim view of their operation after trying to deal with them regarding their rear bumper and the latches) The OEM stops are pretty much bricks. Thuren offers Boogies that are a soft, progressive, cellular foam that better controls the last 2.5" of compression. Even with King 3.0 pintops, I can blow through them and the Thuren stops really do work well. And that is on a Power Wagon with much less weight over the front axle. The truss kit itself isn't that expensive, but labor to weld it in isn't trivial and as part of that install the tubes would be fully welded to the pumpkin. Point is, you both have heavy trucks, oversized tires and a lot of power available on tap. Don't let stupidity get the better of you.
