First Track Test!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the first track test of the FVT05, which took place at Wakefield Park Raceway on the 19th of December, 2016. For the most part, this was successful, a broken seal and some ergonomics issues were the only real issues during the test.
A massive thanks is required for everyone who has been involved in getting the car to where it is today.
How to Build a Racing Car follows the design and construction of the FVT05, a car built for the Australian Formula Vee racing series. The introduction can be found at • Introduction and Bodyw... .

Well. That's an impressive job of driving this project from naught to the track. Speaking as a Yank, it's quite something new to see the Beetle repurposed in this way. It looks like tons of fun! And the frame will help me in my project for a lightweight HPV enclosed for the weather. Best of luck in the races!H

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. You've actually got Formula Vee in America, using the beetle bits, it's a truly global class. Good luck with your project, a human powered vehicle (did I get that correct?) would be quite interesting.

Correct on the engine. I'm not sure the specific gearbox, there's only one type allowed in our category though so I just got hold of one which had been in another Vee.

+50zone it weighs 415 kg without driver and with a full tank of fuel (8kg) so it's pretty light. I've had to add a bunch of lead to reach the minimum competition weight. The benefit is that I can put it where I need it in the car.

ThomsenMotorsport I found your suspension video right after I asked this question. Makes sense, you want to drive better than the next guy, not have to have a car thats better than his.

Barath Krishna S he said in the previous videos it's a beetle engine. It's an air cooled flat 4. As for top speed it probably doesn't really matter since it won't be reached on track anyway

+Alex Marczuk correct on the engine but we do sit at the top speed on the huge straight at Sydney motorsport park, roughly 175 kph.

I know that you would know better since you've driven this around your local track, but the car seems to understeer a bit especially when turning right. Its prominent in the video at 3:08 & 3:12 atleast.

This build is so impressive and I really like the design of the car. Why does it have that asthmatic H4 in it though? It seems like you're the slowest car out there.
