    I really wish the horror genre was more respected in the film and award industry. It really pisses me off that actresses like Sophie Wilde, Mia Goth, Rebecca Hall, Lupita N’yongo, and Toni Collette are not recognized by the awards industry just because the films that they thrived in were horror films. But no matter what happens this awards season the Philippou brothers and the film’s cast should be very proud of their work in this heartbreaking horror movie.

But if I’m the sibling and I leave my younger brother in a room where he said he wanted to get possessed, as family that’s more my responsibility than a family friend’s. I would even argue that if we’re acknowledging that the brother is a teen and just wanted to do like the other teens in the room, we could say the same for Mia when she first tried the hand. She was an insecure teen who wanted to try something that everyone else was doing. And the time went way over for her too. Just like the brother. SO some fun facts about this movie: * The directors confirmed it's the waterlogged woman who's masquerading as Mia's mom; you can hear the "underwater" sound effects during times her spirit appears, and Mia's "mom" looks more waterlogged and drowned the more we see her. * The man in the hospital bed is the same we see holding onto Riley in that hellish vision of limbo. That is probably the man possessed Mia was talking about saying "He's behind you now...he'll split ya!" * Jade pushed MIa at the end - we can see her running towards Mia from the POV of the car. * Daniel is Christian, that's why the spirits are so aggressive with him.

    The hand & possession in the movie is supposed to represent dr*g addiction (in my opinion). Initially, the friends all “use” in a fun, group setting but because Mia is grieving and emotionally unstable, she ends up “addicted” to using the hand. She uses it alone and it takes over every aspect of her life & causes her to harm her loved ones. Riley almost k*lling himself after using the hand is like someone ODing for the first time after using dr*gs as well. Maybe I’m completely wrong but it stuck out to me

    Great watch and reaction as always! A few things I noticed: The "mom" spirit was never Mia's mom. She let the drowned, bloated spirit stay too long the first time she used the hand and it has been manipulating her to kill Riley the whole time. The drowned spirit looks at Riley and says, "They like you." After that time, whenever her mother would appear to her there would be water and gurgling sounds. Her mother would become visibly wet (which doesn't make sense considering how she passed), and the others say they heard the spirits can lie and deceive. Further proof is when Cole tells them on the bus that Riley should kick the spirits out after a while (Jade confirms this when she tells Mia he is getting better), but the spirits keep lying to Mia so she will kill Riley and let them have him forever.

    Some explanations! Throughout the movie, they say that if you die while the spirits have you, they keep you forever. Duckett's brother tells the group that all they need to do is wait, and the spirits will eventually get weak and leave on their own. That's why Jade told Mia that Riley was getting better, and at the end we see him healing up and leaving the hospital. Mia is stuck in limbo because she died while the spirits had a hold on her. Mia was under for too long the first time (with the drowned spirit), and that's why every time she sees her "mother", she gets more waterlogged each time. That's what the bubbling/running water sounds are. It was never her mother, it was always the drowned spirit trying to keep her. This movie is even better on the rewatch because you catch so much more the second time around!!

    I think in the very first part it was her actual mom, then when Mia touched the hands, the drowned lady 'connected' to Riley and that's why he was 'choking' again before hitting his head. The drowned lady used the information to imitate her mom afterwards. They said the spirits can change form to deceive you, but at the beginning,the mom is saying sorry for hurting Mia,supporting what the dad and note say later, but after the Riley incident, the mom spirit is adamant she didn't do it on purpose (besides the whole drowned/ wet appearance and noises)

    The movie and the cast mainly the lead (Mia) and Riley did a fantastic job. The possession of Riley was hard to watch but the kid was awesome. The licking was from the woman who possessed Mia. who probably drowned. She was the one who sucked the toes and she was the one who pretended to be the mother. that's why there was always this noise. Great reaction as always. I know you don't want to do a tvshow but I recommend you Shinibg Vale with Courteney Cox. I'm sure you'll love it. It's a horror/comedy campy and with a lot of references to The Shining. CC is amazing in it. Just 8 episodes and season 2 is coming

    Someone said it about the ending, but the dad who we never saw recover from his injuries was taking the elevator up. Meaning he probably went to Heaven while his daughter's stuck in purgatory. But this ending reignited my fear that there is no afterlife and we just cease to exist never seeing our loved ones again after we die. Yaaaaaaaaaay🙃

    Saw this opening weekend and left the theater with an uneasiness that lingered for hours. A cool take on the extremely well-trodden possession trope. I enjoyed it. The spirits are interesting. We know some (if not all) of them are ghosts trapped the same way Mia was. But there are hints of something demonic. Others have already said it, but I'm almost positive that wasn't Mia's real mom. She took on the appearance of the waterlogged (foot-sucking) ghost after a while, and in that last close-up shot outside the hospital, when the ghost puts her hands on Mia's shoulders, you can see what looks like the tips of claws poking out from under her fingernails. I think that each time someone messes with the hand, the ghosts/demons/whatever try to add to their number by having someone die while possessed. This time it could've been Mia or Riley, it didn't seem like they cared which. What's a gut punch is that if Mia had just waited, everything might've resolved itself. Duckett's brother said the ghosts work themselves out of your system like a drug after a while, and during Mia's death montage, we see Riley get better and leave the hospital. The spirits tried to convince Mia that killing him was the only way to free him, but it would've condemned him forever - which is where Mia ended up instead.

  • @Kiss_My_Aspergers

    @Kiss_My_Aspergers

    6 ай бұрын

    Quick ammendments, please excuse me: -The waterlogged ghost and the foot-sucking ghost are two different ladies. Different outfits, different faces, different hair, possibly different ages, and different injuries; as well as different levels of decay/deformity. -The "claws" under Fake Mom's fingernails are the chips of wood from the door that are referenced several times throughout the movie. I think it's more of a "slip-up" of the ghost's that she gets _more_ aggressive and unnervving in both appearance and speech as she gets more giddy and unfocused while badgering Mia. It's why Mia eventually lets go at the end - the ghost's behaviour and wording make her finally realize it's not her mom. But it's too late, and Jade throws her in front of the car in order to protect her brother anyways. I have so many theories/ideas surrounding the ghosts and where the sequels/prequels are going to go with them, my head is spinning. The Phillipou Twins really know how to make a movie you can talk about constantly afterwards from even just a theorizing standpoint, long after the video essays have run out. I hope the next movie is soon. I'm so impatient. It always takes forever for my favourite Netflix series to get their next seasons, too! So annoying... TT___TT;;

    OOOOOOOOOOOH So, the ghost that possessed Riley was actually the bloated ghost, not Mia's mom. She wanted to kill him because she wanted to keep him forever. The ghost that looked like Mia's mom and was following Mia was, in fact, the bloated ghost. This happened because Mia got possessed by that ghost for more than 90 seconds, so now that ghost is following her.

    David, I think you have a point with the spirits taking more control over a more vulnerable person. The waterlogged woman (hence why everything was so wet) took over for more than 90 seconds. Hayley and Joss are responsible but they did try to take the hand off of Mia but the spirit was able to take over her elongate the 90 seconds by pulling back her arm.
