No no, Han DID shoot first in the original. In the special edition released in the 90s they changed it so that Greedo shot first because they thought somehow it was dishonorable for Han to shoot first. The fans did NOT appreciate this, and it has been a controversial topic since. Most fans will say "Han shot first!"
@hunterackerman1697
Ай бұрын
I still don't understand the complaint. It was in self defense.
@R3_Live
Ай бұрын
@@hunterackerman1697 The scene was actually altered 5 different times. Originally Han shot before Greedo could respond. This was to establish Han as more of a morally grey, no nonsense type character. Lucas thought later that it made Han look like a bad guy, so he had the scene re-edited to have Greedo fire first, miss, and have Han fire in self defense. Fans didn't like this because they felt like it was a bit of a character assassination of Han. The 3rd edit kept Greedo firing first but made him slower at pulling the trigger... which honestly makes Han look less skilled when you see the edit because Greedo pulls his blaster like a snail. The 4th edit made it so Han and Greedo shot _at the same time,_ which is admittedly somewhat better. The 5th and most recent edit gives Greedo an extra line of dialogue, "Maclunkey," before he fires his blaster. But it's still timed to have them both shoot at the same time. IMO, I like the act of Han firing first in the original cut, but I actually prefer some of the later edits that change the exchange of fire into a wider shot rather than a closeup on Greedo getting blasted as it was originally. The 4th edit is probably my favorite presentation overall, but it could be made better if they still kept Han as the one who fires first.

Nah the “she already smooching him” and then the smile Boom 😂😂😂
I like that Ruff complimented the CGI (even though it's not from back then). It's a nice change of pace from the usual CGI-bashing Star Wars fans do.
Watching this movie in the modern day, I have come to greatly appreciate how much the movie treats it's audience like they're smart. Characters are only introduced when they actually come into the story, which necessarily means that Luke, for all intents and purposes the main character, is only introduced 20 minutes in. We don't need any detailed backstories beyond what is related to the hear and now, but we get exactly what we need to know from the way the characters act. Note how there aren't any real exposition dumps beyond what would naturally occur in a conversation and the original scroll. I'm hard pressed to think of a lot of modern movies that can say the same There's a story about filming Vader's first scene and Mark Hamill (being the young relatively inexperienced actor) said to Lucas "Shouldn't we have two of rebels say "That's Vader, he's the evil x, y, and z that did this this and this?". Lucas just responded "This guy is dressed in all black walking through dead bodies while ominous music plays. If people don't pick up that he's the bad guy, we've failed at our job." To which Mark thought "Oh, he's brilliant"
Y’all need to watch Clone Wars (once you’ve seen the prequels of course). It’s genuinely some of the most devastating storytelling I’ve seen
Fun Fact: When Mark Hamill was acting like he was being strangled by the garbage monster, he went so hard that he actually popped a blood vessel in his eye. When they went on to shoot the Throne Scene at the end right after they had to get creative with the angles for his shots to avoid showing his bright red eye.
23:22 Fun fact (paraphrased): The filmmakers could only afford to have a small handful of puppets be made for this scene, but the company they commissioned loved the work so much, they freely made so many more than was ordered.
We're finally here Billy! Time for a 9 movie Journey, then 2 spinoff movies, and Clone wars and Rebels as well as several live action series. (don't listen to the haters, just make up your own minds about the movies like y'all normally do.) 💜
Im only like three minutes into this video but i love the sleepover vibe so much. Star wars blankets and cut outs and sabers and some dudes goofing around.
I know where the name R2-D2 came from. When George Lucas was working on American Graffiti, someone asked for R2, D2, (reel 2, dialog 2). George liked the sound of that so he noted it down and found the perfect character for it.
Women's emotional labor, is Leia comforting Luke after he lost an old man he had just met, while she has lost her entire home world and all the people she ever loved growing up. She is the most badass Disney Princess ever!
It's not just the 501st. That's just the Empire based faction. There's also the Rebel Legion and the Mandalorian Mercenaries and they work side by side for charities.
38:34 Wow, just the mental image of a Stormtrooper depressingly flushing his beloved pet after Tarkin or Vader said "I'm sorry, we can't keep it" is great😂

Some of the CGI was added later, specifically animals/mounts, and jabba the hut. I want to say they were added in the mid 90s
@R3_Live
Ай бұрын
1997, yes. The Jabba scene, in particular, was actually a deleted scene which wasn't in the original theatrical cut. It featured an actor standing in for Jabba, probably because Jabba's design wasn't fully conceptualized yet. The scene never made the original cut. However by 1997, with all 3 original movies released and Jabba having his final design already featured in Return of the Jedi, they went back and remastered the deleted scene, superimposing a rough CGI version of Jabba over the actor and including it in the 1997 special edition release. They later went on to re-edit it again and replace it with better CGI in later releases. In fact, there is even a fan edited version that completely changes Jabba into a Hologram, which honestly makes the most sense, imo.
The music in Star Wars is what made me fall in love with the franchise. John Williams delivered a masterpiece every movie. (And if you decide to do the TV series.. Clone Wars, Rebels, etc.. Kevin Kiner also kills it with the soundtracks)
I hope Pirates 5 is up soon, but good God, I'm looking forward to this very long journey with y'all! 💜
It's about time you guys finally watch Star Wars for the first time! I'm so happy that you guys are watching the original trilogy first.
23:10 wanted to drop this little fun fact; After the Clone Wars, where the Seperatists (the "bad guys") battled against the Republic (now the Empire), they had HOARDS of battel droids to fight for them. They were programed to be relentless and merciless. So in the early days of the Empire and even during the New Republic, droids were basically considered even less than second class citizens, despite their advanced programing and usefulness. The carnage the droids brought during the Clone Wars just remained too fresh in the minds of people, making them untrustworthy in their eyes, hence the "racist" remarks to the droids in this scene. Funny enough, there were a few attempted droid rebellions, but most were either isolated or were eliminated before they could spread.

The lore is that the barkeeper's parents were killed by battle droids, that's why he doesn't want them in his cantina
So this actually isn't technically the original. This is one of the special editions. In about the 90s they went back and remastered it from the original film reels. And then I think in 2005 George went back again and added lots of little details that he wasn't able to in 77. Like all of that CGI stuff wasn't in the original.

They also edited scenes and redubbed lines Which have all been universally condemned as unneeded For example greedo shooting first The dubbed lines in return if the Jedi Horrendous CGI of random animals and stuff that has no purpose but to clutter up the screen...

The glow of the lightsaber fight between vader and Obi-wan alone show that. The bit of Biggs enthusiasm meeting Luke was great stuff they shouldn´t have cut. Han Solo interaction with Jabba this early on was fun too. Graphic deaths Owen and Beru more impact. Overall of the trilogy the New Hope is far and wide the best in remastered form.
You guy should watch the animated shows - Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels...

Ruff, did anyone clarify that the CGI animations were added in the Special Edition DVDs during the 1990s? The CGI was not in the original film.
The Jabba scene wasn't in all the VHS tapes actually. Later a special edition of the VHS tapes was released that included the deleted scenes.

And the reason it was cut in the original (Lucas had no control over the cut and editing, as it was his ex wife that did it) Was because the entire conversation is just a repeat of everything that was said between greedo and han But If George wanted to have the CGI scene in there so it went in later.

@@mckenzie.latham91Not quite true. They filmed it with the intention to add a stop motion Jabba onto the scene. Upon realizing they lack to the budget, they adjusted the Greedo dialogue to get across all the information that the Jabba would have.

And became a character in his own right in Mandalorian.
For multiplayer games, the Battlefront series is famous. For single-player, I am a huge fan of Jedi: Fallen Order, a souls-like with some really cool exploration elements.
The absolute childlike glee from Ruff at all the cool SW moments is giving me life, this is so amazing! Can't wait to see the rest!
Biggs definitely raised some death flags. Like a soldier who’s tour is almost done and gets to go home to his wife.
Fun fact, George Lucas got full merchandising rights for Star Wars instead of a higher salary, and kept the sequel rights because Fox thought it was going to flop
So the whole thing about "Han shot first" is that in the theatrical release Han Shot and Greedo didn't shoot.. later they remade it so Greedo shot and missed... So fans say "Han shot first" or "Han shot PERIOD" since there was no second shot..
This was actually an independent film. It originally released as The Star Wars. They had no idea how good it was going to do. There were several times during production it almost got shutdown
Did you know, in 1955, Alec Guinness was one of the first persons James Dean showed his new Porsche to. When he seen it he said it felt sinister and hungry and told James not to get in it, if he did he would be dead in a week. 1 week later James Dean was in a head on collision with the only other car on the road and died. Almost force level premonition
No, I don't believe this. There's no way that Ruff of all people hasn't -- "They're not gonna read it out loud?" Okay, carry on.

All costumes are hand made ❤ In my area there is a separate group for the rebel costumes, but they are not as well known. Most of the rebel members are also 501st members or former members

I will correct you Boom! lol In the original cut Han shoots first, in the 90s when George re-edited them for the Special Editions and all future versions it's edited so that Greedo shot first because they wanted Han to be a hero and they felt him killing him before Greedo even gets a shot off was too villainous... but the whole point of him is right now he is a shady murky char who eventually will be redeemed.
grew up watching it with my dad and love the original 6 and may the 4th be with you always

8:35"Even the CGI from them doesn't look that bad" CGI did not exist in 1977. These shots are from the rerelease of Star Wars in 1997 The Special Editions.
For the Jabba scene, it was originally shot with a human, and then that scene was deleted during editing. It was added back in 90s, with a CGI Jabba. Hence the "You're a wonderful human being" line.
You should definitely watch Clone Wars after the peequels
**sniff sniff** i smell clone wars reactions in the future :D may the 4th be with ya'll!
The way they got all the sounds is kinda crazy. The lightsaber hum was a malfunctioning projector, Darth Vader breathing was scuba gear, Chewbacca was many different types of wild animals; the TIE fighter is really cool, they took recordings of elephants and cars driving on wet asphalt and combined them.
Love how these guys are talking about how good the CGI was back in the 70's. You guys are watching the special editions. All CGI was added in the 90's.
I like that they like the CGI that was added decades after the film came out, let’s let them keep there happiness 😂😂

Highly recommend watching the Star Wars episode of Phineas and Ferb. Dan Povenmire (series co-creator and VA for Doof) originally pitched it as a joke with a pic of Doof as Darth Vader, something he made once Disney acquired Lucasfilms. They decided to make it a real one hour special, and it actually adds context to stuff in “A New Hope” that happens off-screen and makes each transition to each scene feel a lot more connected.

I don't know how I missed you guys reacting to this but I am here now LETS GOOOO!!!!! And ay yo the Super Nintendo Stars game was my fave as a kid! I love how all of you began vibe bobbing your heads to cantina music immediately, same boys. I'm excited to see you guys go thru this, and Ruff first experiencing is icing on the cake!
I was 8 when the teaser trailer for this came out in autumn 1976; I knew it was for me. By the time it premiered, I was 9. I've seen every movie, watched every animated series and every live-action series, read a few of the books and comic... watched boyfriends play some of the video games. I have found things to love in *all* of them. Keep watching with open hearts and open minds and I think you'll relish your journeys, as well. 🌗
It’s finally time for the long road of Star Wars, the movies 1-6 because 7-9 don’t exist, the amazing animated shows and some ok tv shows and the mandalorian

Yea... the CGI shots aren't from the original movie. They Issued the "special editions" in the 1990s with new CGI shots and George Lucas then decided that those were the "official" versions and basically destroyed the original prints. You can't find the original version anywhere anymore. Every special effect in the original movie was practical.
"What does a princess even mean in space?" I actually love how unclear that was in the film.... the added lote is this.... She's the daughter of the leader of Alderaan...so, princess... the leader of Alderaan, Bail Organa (you'll meet him in the prequels and in Rogue One, which is more like a Prologue for THIS film) is also Alderaan's representative in the Galactic Senate (Tarkin mentioned the Emperor dissolving the Imperial Senate...same thing, became Imperial after the Emperor declared himself the Emperor... the bit about the Emperor taking marshal law type power is in the prologue of the book which was based off the same script and released about the same time as the film.) So if worlds in Star Wars are like nations on Earth... then princesses would be royalty of those worlds, IF royalty exists in that world's sovereign government. Also, Senators in Star Wars is mote like ambassadors in the United Nations... the Galactic Republic (and then the Galactic Empire) being like the United Nations. So why is the Empire evil? Imagine if the Chairman of the United Nations declared himself Emperor and then turned the entire world into a police state under his military's rule... and his chief general was a magic wielding badass.
Ruff playing with his hair while saying, "They cleaned him up good!" is adorable. In my head Ruff has a crush on R2D2...
Just so you know, you're not watching the original film. You're watching a special edition that added unnecessary CGI. The only way you can watch the Original Trilogy is on VHS or as bonus features on a specific DVD set.
There's actually a cut scene with Biggs, where he mentions that he's only three weeks from retiring and shows everyone a photo of his sweetheart back home.
The scream of the TIE Fighter engines is from a faulty AC unit in the hotel room of two of the sound guys when they were assembling their audio library for the film.
Just wanted to say that you guys are watching the 90's rerelease version of A New Hope, where they went back and touched up the special effects as best they could. The resolution was cleared up, the lighting was improved, and some CGI was added. There's some places where it's a little obvious what was changed and some places where it's seamless. Overall it's a pretty impressive feat in editing for the time.
