They've really nailed it so far. You can really feel the dystopian atmosphere, the mostly practical effects are amazing, and the actors are phenomenal. I hope the next season keeps the momentum going.

I love it when channels do full seasons in super long videos like this. I can slap it on and go lay down, and dont need to use the dam remote or mouse every 20 minutes to skip or find the next video, and sit through the same intro's and ads 10 times in a row.

@@millasboo The energy requiered to start a fusion reaction is indeed extremely high. As a weapon, fusion needs a classical nuclear bomb as a trigger (which makes the thermonuclear bomb just as dirty as a nuclear bomb). In a powerplant, the idea is simply to use the existing powergrid to fuel the initial energy needed. We do already have laser beams jointly striking a point in space in some experiments. This part is actually not the most complicated one in itself, the main issue we are facing is plasma containment, which needs to be stable as long as possible so that the energy cost of starting the reaction is offset by the benefits of energy production, this could be done using intense magnetic fields. Right now, there is a huge international project called ITER, a prototype which has been in construction in France for many years and should be done by 2050. Fom there, commercial powerplants should be built.

“They run on nuclear science.” Yes actually, Pip-Boys have a Fission Battery inside and can almost always function; underwater, underground, irradiated, etc. They have a battery life equal to several human lifespans. A family can pass a Pip-Boy down for generations without ever needing to recharge it.

Also y’all nailed it right at the end there. Fusion Cores are not infinite, because like the light bulbs it wouldn’t be profitable to sell batteries that last forever. With Pip-Boys being the exception because they were designed to outlast a nuclear winter. Power Armor drains fusion cores like nothing, and if the show followed game mechanics Maximus would’ve run out of juice several times already

2:45:20 - "If my dad found out that I destroyed an entire community to save him.." That's a nod to Fallout 1 I think. In Fallout 1 you need to find a Water Chip for your Vault, just like in the show now. You can find a few different chips but one is from a town and if you take their chip the ending will tell you that the citizens of that town died from lack of clean water. So if a player wanted an "easy" way to get a chip they could condemn the entire town to death, or keep looking for another water chip. Lucy's character would probably have kept looking.

Also I'm not sure what the canon ending for the Institute is, since this is post Fallout 4.

My grandfather actually worked in a lightbulb factory and someone came in and sold the patent for a lightbulb that will never burn out. The manager bought it for like £10 (loads back in the 40s) and threw it in a fire immediately after the guy left because it would of put him out of business. I have heard that same story from chinese people, french, american, brazillian.. which makes me think a limitless lightbulb is easy AF to do, and that every single time someone has made one it's been sold and the plans destroyed.

3:34 Yes but it depends on how close relative to the explosion as shockwaves hit harder in the water but petter out faster , then there’s also the flash broiling effect as the heat wave would’ve literally 5th to 7th degree burn you

This is a really random recommendation but I’d love to see a little video of them reacting to the fallout sunburst animation, showing a fight between the brotherhood and NCR. It’s still wip but it’s 1. Awesome 2. Great to see exactly how a group would fight the brotherhood of steel

the thing i loved most about the show is that for a LONG time it was only a theory that it was vault tech who dropped the bombs on purpose, but now its actually confirmed, so this show is simultaneously great for newcomers to the series, but its even BETTER for long time fans and for season 2 its obvious theyre going to stay on the west coast but i really hope for season 3 they have some reason to go over to the east coast to either the capital or to the commonwealth maybe maximus and the brotherhood will go over there to secure the project purity thing or to the commonwealth to get all the technology from the institute (assuming that the institute ending is the canon one, which i truly think is the case) if one faction managed to acquire/take control of the garden of eden creation kit, project purity, the institute, and the cold fusion reactor, then they would be unstoppable and could truly either create a utopia or a dystopia depending on which faction it is lol

76 is what got me into the fallout lore, i started looking it all up after playign the game, and then when they added nuclear winter and it having its own lore was pure perfection. I love vault 51 lore from 76

science geekery incoming... Cold fusion is, as far as we know, not possible. The idea with fusion is you get atoms to fuse into heavier atoms, and a portion of the combined mass gets turned into spare energy....but you need to create a very hot and/or very pressurised environment to get those atoms to fuse...like it naturally happens in something the size of the sun, where gravity causes that immense pressure and heat, or firing them at each other at near light speed velocities. It takes a huge amount of energy and a large amount of fuel to get that reaction to start and remain self sustaining. Nuclear fusion bombs use a fission reaction as the detonator/energy source (the atoms are unstable and fall apart, essentially, releasing energy, and high velocity particles that can be directed in various ways to energise lighter atoms like hydrogen isotopes, enough to fuse together, releasing more energy, which starts a chain reaction. It does release more energy than put in, but it's not very efficient or controllable (scale it down and the reaction dies off very quickly)...hence using it for bombs rather than power stations. The cold part of cold fusion is trying to do it without that energy investment, on a smaller, controllable scale, and unfortunately we've yet to figure out getting something for nothing. There's some tests being done using focused solar energy to create sufficient heat (like using a magnifying glass to burn stuff), which would be a cheaper source of that input energy, but it's technically not "cold" and it's still in early days...not quite scaleable, yet...but we may see functional fusion reactors within our lifetimes, they just won't be "cold". you're right that in the fallout universe they already seem to have functional portable fusion generators with those fusion cores, so the cold fusion macguffin is a little redundant... I guess it could be comparable to comparing an early model -T ford from last century to the latest hypercars today. the same basic idea refined to near perfection. loved the reaction guys, it's been a fun watch along

I was really hype for this after seeing the trailer due to being a huge fallout fan. And I was really into it for the first few episodes. But the story progression started seriously dragging towards the middle of the season. And I thought the conclusion was pretty lackluster. They completely broke from the canon of the game in an attempt to create some earth shattering twist, and it wasn't even really that unexpected given all the hints they'd been dropping from the very start.

You should totally watch the Saint with Val Kilmer if you want to watch an awesome movie about cold fusion

Now watching the whole show I don’t understand why moldaver didn’t just take Lucy and tell her when she woke up that her dad was behind it. Also the raider almost killed Lucy and moldaver didn’t care if she died. Maybe there’s an explanation but it confuses me and doesn’t make sense to make her go on a journey where she could’ve died just to get to Moldaver. Then again it’s fallout I shouldn’t question it.
