It's a great movie. The survivors prefer this film to the one they live in, because they consider it to be more faithful to the facts. Some survivors made cameos in the film, for example: the man who opens the door at the airport for Nando and his family is Nando Parrado himself. The man who reads the names of the survivors is the same Carlitos Paez acting as his father, and the doctor who is behind Roberto when they enter the hospital is the same Roberto Canessa.

12:33 That is Nando Parrado, he suffered a skull fracture for which he was unconscious for 3 days and has just woken up, that's why he is asking what happened. The random fact that they left him for dead and placed him almost outside the fuselage with his head in the snow saved his life, because the cold in his brain caused the swelling to go down. Black eyelids are a common symptom of basal skull fracture, known as "raccoon eyes." After too many days in the mountains Parrado would be the most important piece in the rescue effort.

La ganadora tambien se lo merecia . La zona de interes es una pelicula que sin mostrar nada te deja los pelos de punta . La diferencia entre ambos mundos es tan enorme que si te enfocas y te metes Bien en la peli uff es un viaje muy fuerte . Escuchar y ver niños jugando tranquilamente y escuchar adultos con conversaciones banales como que vamos a comer , mientras Al Fondo puedes escuchar los gritos y ver como aciende el humo que le a quitado la vida a miles de personas inocentes . La sociedad de la nieve tambien se lo merecia ambas estaban a un 50/50 . Dices incluso muestran a los sobrevivientes y en la zona muestran lo que quedo de personas que dios los abandono . El Oscar estuvo Bien .

Numa fue el narrador porque la película funciona como un homenaje a los que no pudieron volver, darle voz a quienes quedaron en la montaña 😔 Gran reacción!!

According to the survivors Alive was Disney's version. The name of the deads were changed as other many things and they didn't like that it was rather a hollywood type movie than a one respectuos with the facts and especially the deads. On the other hand, you'll only hear praise for Society of snow from all of them. They even took an active part in pre production and the shooting.

Remember this was not a commercial liner. It was a very small, basic Air Force plane. The mere fact that 16 of the 45 (some even unscathed) survived the fall and crash is already far beyond miraculous.

I have to say that they get a really good job with the dubbed version. It seems to me that every piece and facet of this movie was handled with the utmost respect including the dubbing. That's the one I found first so that's the one I watched first. I have since watched it four more times in its entirety ( Two times dubbed three times in the original spanish) and watched lots of reactions. I want to make sure we don't just c*** on the dubbing actors because we don't like dubbed versions of things. I think they put they're all into it.

I just said that i appreciate that they reacted to the original one because otherwise you don't get the full reaction from the actors. Also because as a spanish person this is a very important story in our culture and it fills me with pride to see people from other countries learning about it in my own language. This film is 95% close to the reality that the survivors experienced, they participated very closely, there is also a book about this tragedy. In the film there were many scenes that could not be filmed because they were too strong and tough. For example, when they started eating human meat, many of them vomited non-stop for days, many of them became sick. They also tried to eat cotton or the leather of the seats. The last woman to survive ( Liliana, the 34-year-old girl who was married to one of the survivors), had an important role as a nurse, many said that she was like a mother to them (especially the youngest ones of 18 and 19 years old). She was a great psychological support, and she consoled them when they were sad. Numa learned a lot from her and he was a kind of nurse after her. She never wanted to eat human meat, she only ate a little bit just 1 day before the Avalanche. Unfortunaly she died. *I'm from Chile and we are separated from the rest of the countries, in the east by the Andes Mountains, in the South by Antarctica, in the West by the Pacific Ocean and in the North by the Atacama Desert. So we have always been isolated from the world in the past, when airplanes did not exist ,many people died trying to cross the mountains, and many planes crashed (when they were basic and just beginning to exist)

The film is a cinematic masterpiece, not only because of the aesthetics, art, photography, make-up or script, but because they managed to tell the story as real and truthful as possible, to the point that the survivors actively participated in it and say that when they see it they relive in their minds everything that happened. It is wonderful the way in which Bayona manages to show the harshness of what happened with an artistic touch and a strong emotional charge and for the first time not only highlighting the figure of the survivors as heroes but also those who died and did not make it out of the mountain, which is why Numa's voice as narrator is so important. Each of the actors met the real person they were playing and most of them managed to create a bond with them, moving from interpretation to reality and giving the importance it deserves to what each survivor felt, because as they have already said, each one remembers the mountain in a unique way. THANKS FOR REACTING! It wasn’t getting a lot of attention from reactors :(

One of the kids , Pancho Abal , his family owned the largest tobacco company of Uruguay , later bought by Phillip Morris , so , in Chile there was a shortage of Cigarettes at the time , he packed a lot of boxes . You know , those kids are from the wealthiest part of Montevideo , there was a drastic change from spoiled rich kids to extreme survival mode , I am pretty sure they never experienced a hard day before the accident , they never saw snow or mountains before , and with all of that , they did the Impossible .

For some reason the fuselage was burnt but there are still several artifacts there and the tomb of those who perished (only 1 body was retrieved by a father that got in trouble with the police). You can visit it in the summertime. Also, there is the Museo Andes 1972 in Uruguay

This movie has changed my life. I'm so grateful for it. I'm so grateful they shared their story with us. I bought it on Audible. I'm about halfway through. I would call the book a companion piece to the movie rather than an exact depiction. The book is broken down into sixteen different perspectives of the same events. We hear each survivor's story from start to finish from their individual perspectives as opposed to what we are seeing in this movie. I mean the details match up but it's just hold in a different way.

I wanna clarify that you’ll read some people say the survivors didn’t like Alive, and in part it is true, but people make it sound like all of them were against the production of Alive. The survivors all have different perspectives and feelings on what happened to them and how they feel about anything in general. Nando Parrado and Carlitos Paez helped with the production of Alive by being on set and helping them with some important info, they weren’t against Alive. However, it is also true that some of the other survivors and the families of the deceased were against Alive. For example, Carlos Roque’s child hated the way Alive depicted his father as some lunatic mechanic at all times with no explanation when the poor man was just dealing with hallucinations due to the plane crash. Alive also portrayed Numa’s friend Pancho as a villain, but that’s because the author of Alive, Piers Paul Read seemed to be trying to find a villain when he interviewed the survivors based on what Pedro Algorta said (another survivor). Unlike, Society of the Snow who made nature and the mountains the villain. Fyi this film is also based of a book but not the same book as Alive. The book is also called Society of the Snow and it is a retelling 30 years after the crash happened unlike Alive which was written a year after the crash and at that point the survivors hadn’t processed what have happened to them.

A lot of reactors were shocked by the same thing, but they had that many cigarettes because Javier Methol and his cousin Pancho Abal, who was a player from the rugby team, both worked at Pancho's family business, they had a cigarette company. Pancho invited Javier on the trip because they were planning to hopefully expand to Chile so they took a lot of boxes with them, since the tickets were cheap he decided to take his wife Liliana and celebrate their wedding anniversary.

Se equivocó el piloto, creyó que ya había cruzado la cordillera y que estaba sobrevolando Curicó, una ciudad de Chile, y giró hacia la derecha, hacia el norte, para ir a dónde se suponía que estaba Santiago de Chile. En realidad todavía estaban en Argentina. Que el piloto dijera a la torre que ya estaba encima de Curicó y a los sobrevivientes también, que ya habían pasado Curicó, les hizo pensar a todo el mundo que estaban del lado de Chile. Por eso ellos deciden caminar al oeste, en busca de Chile que se suponía estaba cerca. Canesa y Zerbino eran estudiantes de medicina, pero estaban en primer año. No sé cómo se animó Roberto Canesa a volver al lugar la pierna de Mangino en el momento del accidente! No es una historia de terror, es una historia de amor, sólo así salieron adelante, cuidandose unos a otros!

one thing i've noticed across all reactions to this video is that the thing that truly triggers the tears is when they see that man on his horse and that incredible score starts up. it makes me cry every single time too!! also i cannot recommend the book enough. i made the mistake of listening to it at work tho and had to keep pausing it to keep from sobbing so maybe avoid that lmao.

I watched it the first time on Netflix while at work on my desktop with no sound, only reading the captions while simultaneously working on my other screen, and had to keep pausing it and get my crying under control.

What they did it's imposible. They survived the crush; the cold; the injuries. The Andes are vast and and dangerous. It's an increíble story !! And movie !!

Amazing reaction, thank you for sharing it. Thank you as well for watching it in Spanish. A few facts: Nando made quite a recovery because even when his head swelled with the impact, it was facing the cold metal of the plane when he was left outside because everybody was thinking he was dead or about to die. The cold served as a very cold ice pack to heal the swelling in his head and make him better. Daniel Maspons I believe or Diego Storm (both died during the avalanche) was another medicine student. He thought after the first night it was a good idea to bring Nando to a warmer area inside the plane. The idea Nando had to want to eat the bodies came out of anger that the pilots' negligence got them to be stuck in the mountain helpless. Let's not forget he lost his mum, sister and 2 best friends. Nando's anger it's what pushed him to want to get out of there no matter what. They were peeing black because of severe dehydration. Numa when Marcelo died said they have been waiting for a moment like that, a moment of peace. Marcelo after finding out the government stopped looking for them got very depressed and kind of lost hope. Some of the survivors say that they think when Marcelo was trapped in the snow during the avalanche he let himself died because he could not fulfill his promise that rescue was coming and all of those people were in that plane because he planned the trip. The guilt and despair kill him, the avalanche was just his way to let go of that burden. Fito was the one who thought of making water, glasses to protect their eyes from the reflexion of the sun in the snow and also chose the bodies that would be eaten along with his cousins Daniel and Eduardo. Fito was called the inventor. The cousins how the call themselves were those who carried the biggest burden of all, to know which friend they were eaten and cut that friend to be eaten. Carlitos, the young person who crashed into the suitcases with his car at the airport, was a spoiled child who came from a wealthy family. He was very spoiled, he even had a nanny, after this trip his perspective of life absolutely changed. In the plane, he was in charge of making sure there were not drafts in the plane or reduce the possibility of drafts using the suitcases and plane seats, he was very good at it. He also was the one who made the sleeping bag that Nando and Roberto used to protect them and sleep during their walk to Chile. They had so so so so many cigarettes because in Chile cigarettes were scarce and Javier Methol, the man who lost his wife in the avalanche, worked in a Tabaco company so thought it was a good business to take a lot of cigarettes and sell them in Chile. In those years if you went to Chile with a few dollars or had some out of the market products you were a millionaire. Chile was going through a horrible economical crisis. Numa did not get injured like that in the real events, someone walked on his leg by accident because of the lack of space in the plane and because he was not eating his body did not have much strength to recover from the bruise. He was the last one who died and his death pushed Nando and Roberto to say fuck it lets do this, let's save ourselves because no one else is going to. The others 14 left in the plane also had a plan b in case Nando and Canessa did not make it which was putting together another team to hike the mountains. The actual survivors loved this version more than the 1993 version, because it doesn't idolise the survivors as the heroes, instead recognises and considers those who died and their memory. In the alive version some families did not give permission to use the real rugby player's names. In this versions all the families were happy and satisfied with the way the story was told and gave permission. Reporters kept digging in a very nasty way how they survived, what did they eat, etc. The survivors were very secretive and ashamed about saying they ate human and were scared to be judged, being Catholics, by their families and friends also going to jail. They had a press conference were they answered to reporters questions ONCE instead that addressing the situation 100000 times to every reporter who asked. They asked the reporters and people for respect of their choices considering the very harsh circumstances they had to face. Pancho Delgado (Numa's best friend in the movie was they one who spoke in this conference) He said that Jesus gave his blood and body to save the world so the survivors took their friends bodies and blood for them to be save. Pancho also asked the reporters to please not spoiled with yellow press and judgement an act that was sacred to them and something that was done for pure survival instinct. The actual survivors made a Kameo in the movie Nando, opened the door to the actor who played him at the airport, Roberto Canessa was one of the Drs in the Hospital when they got rescued, Coche Inciarte reading a newspaper in the bar Numa and his friends were, Numa's real life nephew passing by Numa's house when he was entering and Carlitos, who read all the survivors names, were is different scenes. The house shown as Numa's house in the movie was actually his real house back in 1972. The reason why Zerbino would not leave without the suitcase it's because he hoped that tokens from the death people, like personal belongings such as jewelry, rosaries, ID's, letters written before dying were taking back to give to their families. That actually happened the real survivor refused to leave without the suitcase and when back home he personally went to each of the families homes of the passengers that did not survive to give them something that belonged to them, so the families even when not having their bodies they could have something to remember them by. In the movie isn't shown but the rescue was in 2 stages. They had to rescue one lot of people that day and the next lot the day after. Some survivors had to stay another night waiting for the other helicopters to arrive. Those left behind the first day were left with food and a team of rescuers. A survivor said most of the rescuers were scared of them after seeing all the human remaining all over the place and made sure the survivors knew they had a gun. Also the smell and dirt was unbearable. Only one rescuer Sergio Diaz, I believe he is called, stayed in the plane with them that night, ate with them and advised them about what they were going to face after everybody knew they have eaten human beings. There is a man who was part of the search team that were looking for the plane during the 71 days the survivors were stranded on the mountain. His name is Claudio Lucero and he had made quite strong arguments in the media about how he believes the 27 people left alive in the plane after the crash planned and plotted maliciously all the events that happened to them to gain fame. He states they could have left the mountain days before the day they got rescued, but chose to stay longer and go through hunger and lost to become famous and earn money.

Everything about this film is absolutely perfect and so faithful to reality that it moved me to tears due to such a faithful adaptation of the real events of what happened. The depth of the characters, the visuals, the chronology, the narration is beautiful! It definitely tears your soul. PS: That the director has opted to make the narrative from the perspective of one of the protagonists (Numa) who also dies, transmits a saturation of tremendous emotions. Numar represents the nature of the human being for the gift of doing good, helping others, it is inevitable to feel empathy with him and pain when he dies. I think we all cry when they read that little piece of paper that he leaves with a biblical passage... Simply Beautiful!

I loved your reaction, thank you very much for sharing your views opinions and first time reaction to it! They were able to figure out and fix so many things in the plane because Roy was an electrical engineering student, I believe. They were lucky there were med students and an electrical engineering student among them, otherwise many more would have died much sooner, many of them would have suffered much more and never recovered or maybe they would have never been rescued, even. It was truly a miracle since they were the first ever plane crash survivors from the Andes in history, they were able to survive such a harsh environment without proper clothes, protection from the environment and as I said earlier: I'm pretty sure the fact that many had so many particular skills and that they all worked together as a team contributed to them staying alive that long. All of the rescued survivors were still alive until not very long ago when José Luis "Coche Inciarte, passed away, in July 2023, I believe. He made artwork and wrote extensively on the matter, inspired by the tragedy of theirs and some of his artwork and photographs influenced and informed the storyboard for this movie as well.

Regarding the cigarettes, I believe there was a shortage in Chile at the time so they’d made sure to bring LOADS with them.

I have a question that might seem silly but somebody will know the answer. Is the name Numa short for something? I absolutely love the name and if any more kids were in my plans.I think I would name him or her Numa.

NUMA es la versión masculina del nombre "Norma". Políticos y gobernantes de la Antigua Roma llevaron este nombre.

Im not sure why the translation misses it but they say temperature drops 30 degrees. Celcius degrees! So if it goes from 20 to -10 its like dropping from 70 to 10 or so. A 60-ish Farenheit drop! Not big deal but my comment here!
