Not only that. It's the only collective sport where a team from a lower division can win to a bigger team. Sometimes a team wins a series of games, and then, when no one is expecting, they lose. That uncertainty in the game makes it more appealing. Of course, I don't like when it happens to my team 😅

I play as a keeper. It is the most thankless role on the field. I've had defenders trying to blame me for their mistakes because I wasn't able to bail them out when l was left alone in my area with 3 forwards breaking through! At the elite level, goalkeeper reaction times can be less than a second. And sometimes that still isn't fast enough! Add to that you are covering a goal that stands 8 feet high and 24 feet wide. Value is based on scarcity. It's the reason why gold and diamonds are so valuable. They don't score much, but each goal means way more. Something like basketball where they score once a minute, but the baskets don't give you any lift when they happen because it's expected. In football, that one extra goal against Stoke on a wet Wednesday night could win you the league and as such each goal gives you an unbelievable lift, a feeling that you just can't get in any other sport.

12:26 this comment is ridiculous. In American football you count 6 points for a touchdown, 3 for a field goal etc. then it is clear that so many points are seen on the scoreboard. Imagine in European football (soccer) they will count for example 6 points per goal from outside the penalty area, 3 per goal from inside the area, 2 per goal from a corner kick and an extra penalty after scoring from outside the area as the extra point (safety) after a touchdown. Then you would also see many points on the scoreboard. You should also understand that it is more difficult to play with the ball on the grass with your foot than with the egg under your arm and running.

Goalies are amazing, the goal seems like it's small thanks to them but in reality it's huge, 7.32 by 2.44 meters (or over 24 by over 8 feet), strikers can hit the ball with insane precision but most of the time golies manage to save. This game is about positioning, the goalie and the defenders need to move in a way that doesn't give an opportunity to shoot at all or close the space so the striker can possibly shoot at specific area of the goal that is protected. Finding openings or creating them are the very essence of the game, beautiful shots are just cherries on top ;p

@ 7:26 I totally agree - that defender bottled it. Rugby looks tougher but I played both and Rugby players are usually middle-class and not as determined to win at all costs. Whereas there is no such thing as a 'friendly match' in football. I've seen headers and vollies turn into a riot. We had violent versions of footy like 'Death Squares' and a 'Chicken Run' in our youth club. Rugby players play cricket when the ground gets too dry to dive on. I've been on both ends of a slide-tackle at full pelt on concrete many times. Softer than golf? Playing football can give you a heart attack after 10 minutes if you're not fit enough and most players over 30 need a week to recover before they can play again

Soccer is a game of chess, drawing attention and utilizing open spaces. You need a deep understanding of ball physics to appreciate the sport and sadly its hard to understand it without playing. Most people who think they can play cant make a pass past 10 yards and its took my “football is better soccer is soft” college friends a single session to admit it was a bigger challenge than they could take. None of them were used to 40 minute cardio plus physical contact. Nevermind the need to constantly change pace and sorry but I didn’t take it easy😂 nutmeg after nutmeg on that day. I had to embarrass them to stand up for the sport. They used to talk shit now every Sunday we on the college fields battling it out. Mans got tekkers😎 but they’re trying and thats all that matters. They love the sport now, play FIFA and we watched the whole world cup together. It's a 90+ minute game with just one 15-minute break and the field is huge (just the penalty field before a goal has comparable size to a basketball court) so there is a stupid amount of running. That is also why the game is usually slow and it might be why sometimes you see a player overplaying a contact - the game slows down for a bit and his team gets a breather.

We were 2-1 down in a cup game 85 on the clock, I one twoed with the rb when the ball came back, my back to their goal, i rainbow flicked it back over their cm’s head, ran forward, did two step overs and broke their dcm ankles, i through balled it between their cb an Rb with the outside of my left boot to our Lw, he ran on to it and with a first time touch, crossed it! ahhh its like the world slowed down and everything was in slowmo 🤔😮‍💨 i ran into the box and did a diving header. Goal!! We ran in celebration for about a mile 😂 we won that game in penalties. For a month straight everyone at school, teachers, the principal, all the girls, all the lads knew who i was, a literal celebrity, hugged me, invited me to their parties etc, even my mum was acting weird being all nice 😅🤔 in fact i can argue that goal was the reason i lost my virginity, didn’t get expelled, know all the cool guys, never got bullied, etc. smh football in England for some, is more than a sport. 😤

The game sometimes can be boring as hell, but it can also prove more exciting than ever, there's always this sense of surprise instead of just counting which team scores more one by one. Football is all about leaving the heart on the field for this one perfect moment and I find it much more exciting than any other sport

That "backward back-flip kick" move is called the bicycle kick. 95% of the time it isn't done to be flexing or flashy. It is done when the scorer happen to have their back turned against the goal when they secure the ball, AND the ball is in the air. Imagine trying to get that ball back on the ground, AND turn your body 180 before officially shooting it. By that time the defenders would be already on your ass, and the goalkeeper will be 100% ready. The scorers don't have that time. Too much is at stake. Bicycle kick is in that scenario the only quickest way to get the ball shot towards your backside. A lot of times you know the ball will land in the proximity of your body, but you won't have the time to position yourself for the ball to land on your feet while you also face forward.
