Shrek 2 Movie Description:
Shrek 2 is a 2004 American computer-animated fantasy comedy film loosely based on the 1990 picture book Shrek! by William Steig. The sequel to Shrek (2001) and the second installment in the Shrek franchise, the film was directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, and Conrad Vernon from a screenplay written by Adamson, Joe Stillman, J. David Stem, and David N. Weiss. It stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews, Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, Rupert Everett, and Jennifer Saunders. In the film, Shrek (Myers) and Donkey (Murphy) team up with the swashbuckling cat Puss in Boots (Banderas) to foil plans by Fiona's Fairy Godmother (Saunders) to destroy Shrek and Fiona's marriage.
Development began in 2001, and following disagreements with producers, the first film's screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio were replaced with Adamson. The story was inspired by Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967), and new animation tools were utilized to improve the visual appearance of each character, particularly Puss in Boots. The lead actors also received a significant bump in salary to $10 million, which at the time was among the highest contracts in their respective careers. Like its predecessor, Shrek 2 also parodies other films based on fairy tales and features references to American popular culture.
Shrek 2 premiered at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, and it was released in theaters on May 19, 2004. Met with highly favorable reviews like its predecessor, the film grossed US$928.7 million worldwide. It scored the second-largest three-day opening weekend in U.S. history and the largest opening for an animated film at the time of its release. It went on to become the highest-grossing film of 2004 worldwide. Shrek 2 is also DreamWorks Animation's most successful film to date, and it held the title of being the highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide until Toy Story 3 surpassed it in 2010. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, and its associated soundtrack charted in the Top 10 on the US Billboard 200. A sequel to the film, Shrek the Third, was released in May 2007.

The Spanish phrase that Puss In Boots says after he is accidentally thrown off of Donkey (¡Hey tú, pedazo de carne con patas, ¿Cómo te atreves a hacerme esto!?) roughly translates to "Hey you!, piece of meat with legs, How dare you do this to me?"

to clarify i think fiona's never actually met prince charming, she was just told that her "prince charming" would be the one to rescue her from her tower. so she was fantasizing about the concept of prince charming moreso than the specific person

Very much agree. It keeps in line with the first film where she clearly has an idealized view of how her rescue is supposed to go and what her savior should be like. It lends some credence to the theory that Fairy Godmother also is the source of the curses (notably Puss says she is talented at hexes, a bit odd for someone who solves problems).

The directors have comfirmed in the audio commentary that when Donkey drank the potion, Dragon turned into a pegasus (for those who don't know, it's a bewinged horse). In an earlier draft had Dragon in it but the directors realized that she would be OP, hence why she was almost written out of the story except for mention of her being "moody" (hinting at her pregnancy) and her apperance in the credits scene. That's why she was replaced with Mongo the Giant Gingerbread Man (named after Mongo from Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles as they both are big, strong and dimwitted). In an earlier version Mongo was a lot more aggresive and destructive like a Godzilla-Kaiju but in order to make him sympathetic, he was made dimwitted and somewhat childish, only becoming aggressive when attacked by the guards at the gate.

Back in the middle ages, they had "finger bowls' that you would moisten your hands in and then you wipe your hands off on the tablecloth as a washrag and towel. That's how nobles cleaned their hands for dinner. There were no napkins, you used the tablecloth for that, too. I assume average people washed dirt and literal shit off their hands before they ate, but if it looked clean, it was clean. Back in the day, a lot of food was eaten with your hands, not cutlery because they had spoons and knives, but only rudimentary forks for grabbing really messy things to load onto your plate that would fall off your knife. Often you would use your sheath knife to eat with, there was no dedicated knife on the table. Nobles would wear fancy knives and daggers to dinners so they could show off their wealth with them. Nobles would also bring their own cutlery, the fancier the better to flex their wealth, too.

Wut? The sequels to HTTYD are terrible with villains I don't even remember the names of, and just use pretty lights to look good. Kung Fu Panda 3 is bad, trying to be sweet and emotional when they want us to root for a gaslighter. Shrek 2 is better than Shrek 1 and if you ignore the nonexistant 3rd movie and skip to the 4th, it battles with Toy Story for being the perfect trilogy. Maybe you're just of a younger generation who didn't get to see Shrek until you saw all the movies that copied it.

@Demo dude, How To Train Your Dragon is a better trilogy than Shrek. Every single one of them is awesome with more than just “pretty lights to look good.” Kung Fu Panda 3 is still fine, and Po’s dad is not a gaslighter. He’s lying to his son because he wants to keep him safe. That’s not gaslighting. Don’t just blindly assume I’m a “younger generation” because I don’t blindly agree with your honestly pretty controversial opinion.

It must have happened when Donkey drank the potion and turned to a stallion. Dragon must have turned into a Pegasus and the babies were affected as well. When the potion ended, the Pegasus changed back to a dragon and the Pegasus-stallion hybrids changed to 'dronkeys'.

In old movies and cartoons people of the early 1800s or 1900's were portrayed as using perfume/cologne to spray their mouths to mask bad breath for potential mates for when not having toothbrushes on hand, and to my understanding people used to do this. And Fiona dipping her hands in a bowl of soup between or before courses of a meal was an actual civilzed/high society Mideval/Renaissance cleaning etiquette as feasts/meals leave grime and grease on hands and they didn't have advanced modern standard of cleaning supplies such as soap and sinks and didn't get clean like 1st-Worldsociety does today (they didn't bathe with soap often or they used community pools to bathe every so often, soap consisted of lye, animal fat, and urine, and people stunk so bad and were so hygienic they had to mask it with cologne and other perfumes, and rat infestations with droppings and disease were rampant in European cities, and the reason Royal/high class beds had draped canopies was to protect sleepers from being pooped on by birds and bats. Hygiene practices were also so bad people would chew on dead mice as a pseudo medical treatment to certain aliments. Much of society considered it superior to be rude and gross amongst the people. So midevil people could only best come up with bowls of water at the dining table to attempt to clean theirs hands back then.)

Although I've enjoyed a lot of Mike Meyers movies (I saw the Wayne's World movies when I was a teenager and that informed a lot of my early humour) and I really enjoyed stuff like Shrek and the Austin Powers franchise...honestly, my favorite movie of his is "So I Married an Ax Murderer". He had already started experimenting with playing multiple characters in his movies in that film and it has one of the silliest, but still weirdly believable and relatable, premises and I make a point of watching it whenever I can.

As soon as you said Prince Charming sounded familiar I started listening and I was like, "Well, he sounds like Tom Hiddleston to me, but I know that's not him". He's actually voiced by James Arnold Taylor, a pretty prolific voice actor. If I had to guess I'd say the voice he does that you would've heard that's most similar to Prince Charming is probably Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Breath perfumes were indeed a thing! and it dates back hundreds if not thousands of years! since perfumes used to be just fine alcohol with fragrant oils (or in some cultures, just oil), it was safe to ingest, i wouldnt recommend trying it with modern perfumes unless you know precisely what is in it though. And the handwashing bowls in the dinnerscene are also a common theme across many cultures, since high-class dinners could be 2-10 hours long, with anywhere from 5-100 dishes, it was a practical necessity, it was/is also often a religious/cultural practice.
