@@tinker_belle41 Also the chilly way Felix told him "See you back at Oxford" even though he made it clear that the lying ended their friendship. So Felix' associates probably would have made it miserable on campus for Oliver even if Felix himself kept his nice guy image by not bullying Felix directly. Depending how angry Felix was it might even have caused some career doors to close for Oliver, Oxford degree or not. And he would have hated seeing Felix anymore even if there were no harassment.

SOOOOOO this is my interpretation: Ollie was obsessed with Felix and the reason why he went to SaltBurn wasn’t to inherit it but to be closer to Felix. It was ALWAYS about Felix and when Felix rejected him at the end, he couldn’t handle it so he killed him. Inheriting SaltBurn was an afterthought, something that he wanted the viewers to think he was plotting in advance (being an unreliable narrator). But really, he wanted Felix and inheriting SaultBurn was the closest to Felix he was gonna get after killing him.

I believe Oliver went to Oxford to become a different person; a version of himself who would absolutely belong in that world. I think he fell for Felix and developed a plan that would result in him being able to live that life WITH Felix. Everything we saw was the constant adaptation of said plan based on the events occurring around him.

Oliver was in love with Felix, he’s an unreliable narrator. I think his plans changed when Felix discovered his lies, he couldn’t have Felix so he would instead take everything he had. You don’t do that to someone’s grave and not be completely obsessed with them. He did set everything up to be close to Felix, he only went the other route once he knew there was no chance and Felix had completely rejected him. The other characters were all pawns. Farleigh wasn’t the same kind of threat because ultimately he was also an outsider even though he was actually blood. In the end Oliver wanted Saltburn because that was his way of forever staying with Felix.

im so glad you caught on to so many things that people tend to miss just because of the debauchery in the movie. this movie is centered around the concept of intense all encompassing obsession. oliver was so obsessed with felix and wanted him so bad it turned into a “if i can’t have you no one can”, he literally couldn’t handle the reality of felix rejecting him. but his death didn’t stop those feelings, so he worked and reached to have whatever was left of felix: saltburn. he got to a point of not being able to live without him, so he created a life where felix surrounded him.
