Should you watch Up, you'll probably also want to watch the shorts "Dug's Special Mission" (watch after you meet Dug - the short follows Dug leading up to his appearance, and ends with the exact same scene as 41:13 in the movie on Disney+ if you want to time it perfectly), and "George & A.J." (it shows what's happening at home between Carl leaving and the end of the movie, and I'd recommend watching it at the end)

As someone who works in hospitality, this movie rings very true on many levels. Chefs come from often bizarre backgrounds, but so does waiters. Truth be told, we in hospitality are a bunch of crazies and lunatics. And I love it.

Fun fact: The theme about food driving you back in past memories fits perfectly with classic french litterature. In Proust's "à la recherche du temps perdu (Searching of the lost time)", the author explains how the taste of petite madelaine takes him back to his childhood, like an attempt to win a battle with time. Ego gets the same feeling and it fits so nicely since its set in Paris. Also, I like how Remy is choosing a "peseant" dish. He knows his roots and he knows how to cook just like Anton's mom since he grew up and learnt how to cook in french country side. A chef with so humble roots reminding one of the top critics that kind of country side comfort but in a more gourmet, haute cuisine way presented. It adds to the whole "a great artist can come from anywhere" since Paris and haute cuisine/high society is famous for it's snob manners where someone could be treated as less worthy because of his less fancy origins. I think this is truly Pixar's greatest movie (or one of the greatests), the artistic vision, the little details, the combination of realistic/unrealistic elements, the antithesis throughout the whole movie (a rat in fine cooking), the music score and much more. They took a crazy idea and turn it into a masterpiece.

Linguini wasn't really being a prick, he was literally telling Remy right before how much he appreciated him. Remy kept stealing and this time he took it a bit too far. Obv he was acting out and its poor timing overall, perfect for the movie's pacing, but him being upset at Remy right then wasn't prick behaviour imo. He felt betrayed. Earlier on Linguini said that Remy didn't need to steal spices and that he would just buy them so it makes sense why this made him angry.

Ratatouille is top shelf Pixar. The heart, the art direction, the amazing musical score.... just wonderful. The ride in EPCOT really captures it well, worth the wait. If you haven't done The Incredibles yet I would highly recommend it. Directed by Brad Bird and music by Michael Giacchino, same as this film.

Some neat details about Ego with his theme of being “the grim eater” is that his typewriter is shaped like a skull and his work room is shaped like a coffin, and he looks sickly pale and thin, but when we’re shown present Ego in the end, he has more color and his cheeks look a bit fuller, because he lost his Ego (pun intended) and is eating better

As a french girl, I'm always happy when people react to this movie and like it. Gusteau's spirit is kind of Remy's conscience (like Jiminy Cricket with Pinocchio). Note he disappears after Remy says he's a cook. About Colette, she shows how hard it's for women to being able to work in a job " for men ". In France, she's voiced by Camille, the singer of the song you can hear during the movie. I have a little fact for you : what they served to Ego isn't the real ratatouille but " un tian de légumes ". The real one is the one served by his mother. Also, what he felt when he ate it, is what us frenc called " une madeleine de Proust " which means when something remind us of our childhood (in reference of the french writer Marcel Proust who said the odor of madeleines reminded him of his childhood).

I’ve worked as a waitress in several restaurants from crummy diners to fine dining and I Love the way chefs are portrayed in this movie! Most I have met have very interesting pasts and are very tough people. I’ve worked with very sweet chefs who make sure the rest of the staff are fed and I’ve worked with chefs who will throw full plates of food at waitresses who bring them them back to the kitchen saying “sorry, I put in the wrong order, I need you to remake this.” Luckily I never got any plates thrown at me but I’ve definitely done shots with the chefs/cooks back in the kitchen and seen some lines set up in the walk in freezer… restaurant kitchens are colorful places 😂 And yes, those rats wouldn’t have survived the dish sanitizer. Those things get incredibly hot, I’ve burnt my fingertips and forearms taking dishes out of those before. Thank you for another fantastic reaction on a lovely movie!

Warning, bad English... I know that you already have some great movie options for us to pick from, and this is not to disregard that, or be rude. But I hope that you at some point will see The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is my all-time Disney favorite. It is pretty entertaining, to see adults, react to it for the first time. I watched it with a friend of mine, I (25’ish at the time) watched with rose-colored childhood glasses, and Christmas lights in my innocent eyes. While my friend at the other end of the couch had a "WHAT THE FUCK DISNEY" moment. Needless to say, he found a lot of things quite disturbing. Thanks to that, I found out how dark that movie really is, and it only made me love it even more. Another film from Disney, I would recommend is: The Finest Hours. It's not an animated movie. But it's a film that I think shows very well, that Disney is much more than what people think of, when you say Disney. Disney has made many incredible and heavy movies, that people disregard or don't associate with Disney, because they only think of Disney as something for kids. The Finest Hours is one those movies. But whether you see any of these films or not, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your reactions. And as always this was a great and enjoyable reaction. It made me want to rewatch Ratatouille. :D If this comment makes it seem like I disregard the movie options we got, or if this/I come of as rude, then I am very sorry, that is not my intention. Please do tell me if that is the case. I'll probably end up copying this comment and put it on some more of your Disney reactions, in the hopes that you'll see it (if I remember and if it’s not rude). Apologies in advance if this is annoying. I'll try not to go too crazy with it. Sorry for my bad English, and bad grammar, (I'm especially bad at commas, there are either too many or too few. Often too few because I'm afraid of using them incorrectly. Or they should have been a period. What word is generally used for period? Google wanted me to type full stop, and it felt a little weird not to use a decided word for it. And it was not entirely easy to find an alternative for that.) I'm already bad at grammar in my native language, so it doesn't exactly get any better in another language, with google translate as my only help. Please comment if there are errors that should be corrected. I want to learn and get better. So, grammar and language police, please correct me, you are more than welcome. :D
