Badd Medicine here and its PREY reaction time
Folks, by now, you probably have seen Prey, and wow was this almost as good as the first one. The original Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger stand the test of time. Well, at least in our eyes. The other Predator movies were just ok at best. Prey is sort of a prequel and it was great to see all the call backs in this one. And great job on the Predator as well. Great to see it was a suit and not CGI. In this one it felt like the Predator was able to be attacked a little more, but clearly it wasn't enough at certain points in the film. Amber Midthunder crushed it as Naru. We thought her character was great. Some can nit pick, but we enjoyed her performance.
Prey Plot
A skilled Comanche warrior protects her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against wilderness, dangerous colonisers and this mysterious creature to keep her people safe.

This movie was sick! I believe the director confirmed the Predator in this film was a rookie on his first solo hunt which explains a lot of his reckless mistakes. He was meant to mirror Naru in how they're both on a journey to prove themselves as hunters. And he might have been from a different tribe than the Predator in the original, as well.

Where I grew up North of LA, against the Angeles National Forest, we had a major fire back in the day. A Lot of the wild animals came out of the forest into our neighborhood because there were a ton of open fields. Mountain lions are beautiful, but big and scary; especially when they're hiding in the field brush. Everyone had to keep their pets and dogs inside, and people had to be careful as well

Predators are dropped of on planets to hunt worthy prey as a ritual to becoming full blooded Predators. So this guy here was a noobie hunter, once they achieve their goal the become true hunters and are allowed to equip the plasma canon. Hence the Predators from movie 1 & 2 were already true hunters Hence they had the plasma canons. Another little thing is that they have a code of honor to hunt. No children, people with fatal decease or un-armed individuals. Also taking someone else's prey is dishonorable Hence why when naru was trapped before the French appeared he didn't strike her down.

Had no experience with any living creature on earth. I also think the predators dropped on earth are juveniles and much like Naru, this is their big fight to be recognized as a warrior. So Naru is the threat that made the predators think we're one of the strongest "prey" to keep coming back.

Awesome reaction! One thing though, Jean-Claude Van Damme was NOT in the Predator suits. He was originally cast for it, back when the Predator had a totally different design. But because of issues he had with how hot it was, and them not liking the design, the roll was recast to someone much larger. Kevin Peter Hall who was 7'2, played the Predator in both 1 and 2.

Little fun fact about what you said about him: JCVD was not in the Predator suit. He was when the predator didn't look like a predator and they were still figuring out what the monster would look like but the original design didn't work. It's still disputed between McTiernan and JCVD that either they fired him because he wanted to do some "karate" moves in the suit that they didn't like or if It was because they reworked the whole Predator look to a point that JCVD would not be the right person to be in that suit. But in the film we've all seen, that's at (almost) no point Van Damme in the suit but Kevin Peter Hall. Thanks for your videos, I love watching your reactions!

A couple of things: when she was confronting the Lion in the tree, she was distracted by a sound in the sky or she may have fared better. Also, this was almost 300 yrs before the Original movie, so his weapons and armor ( lack of) would be primitive. I don’t think the Predator can distinguish between male or female as much as just wether or not they have a weapon and size, that would consider them a threat.Absolutely terrific movie, I think it’s ten times better than the Original for sure.I give this a 5/5 without hesitation.

As you picked up and commented at the end, you can see that this Predator intentionally selects both its fighting style, and weapon choice to match the style of the "prey" it's hunting. For the wolf that is quick on the chase and has sharp fangs, the Predator squats low and uses its arm blades - challenging the wolf's speed and quickness head to head (as is the reason he even squats low to remove his natural height advantage). Against the grizzly, he purposely goes power to power to try and out-wrestle a bear in a literal bear hug! Against the people he shifts to projectiles, spears, nets and even bait with area of effect traps (mimicking the trappers baited area surrounded by animal traps), after they display that level against him! It's so cool!

I love that the call-backs weren't forced, or didn't feel forced to me. I love that it returns to the survival thriller roots. I love that it settles a question that non canon comics tried to answer before. Rarely do I encounter a film that just feels so good that it's hard to nitpick, intentionally seeking problems. There are a few, but so small that they don't really impact the story. So close to a perfect film it can be tasted. EDIT: Yautja hunt for breeding rights as well as coming of age, their society is matriarchal after all. They can distinguish between male and female, they won't kill a pregnant woman or a child intentionally. Even armed, they see them as less of a threat, unless it's a Yautja female! The films are great but the books and canon graphic novels do a great job of expanding on a rich foundation of lore.

some observation on this movie: the snake can see and fought back... the wolf thinks the predator is a threat so the wolf attacks instinctively...which shows the predator can be injured.. the bear can fight brute strength and shows it can be killed... a group of people can do teamwork like setting up traps or outsmart it... they think the predator is unstoppable but what is shown is that it can be defeated... the predator is somewhat underestimating the inhabitants that it sees the woman somewhat not a threat and ignores her somehow until she outsmarted the predator at the end.

It makes it seem like the predator is trying to find the best match on the planet. Also I don’t get when people complain about how the predator died by his own weapon. Like that was a badass fight and she outsmarted him tactically. Although I love the orginal, nostalgia or not you have to admit that dropping a lot on the predator was pretty anticlimactic

Remember, the predator of 1987 had over 250 years of weapons-tech development/upgrade evolution over this film's predator. The weapons used by _this_ predator would be laughable antiques to the high-tech predator Dutch fought. You can see some of the ancestors of the weaps used by the later predator tho. The helmet-targeted gun shot bolts rather than energy, and it was held - not shoulder mounted as the system it had evolved into by '87. The cut-thru-anything shield became the flying razor-disc Murtaugh faced. Hope that made sense, hehe :) Another crazy thing - if that be the case - is that the predator's civilization already had interstellar travel and cloaking tech well before _1719._ Great reaction like always, guys! :)

This was a good movie man. I think that this is the predators first big hunt, they have it mirror Nauru throughout the movie. The movie was smart and it almost anticipated how we would expect another bad predator movie with callbacks that miss directed us. It’s also very efficient in the sense what they showed us and the dialogue coming back, almost everything that she said or did came back at the end of the movie down to the beaver stuck between the two rocks and taking its its leg off. I also wanna save that some of the special effects weren’t great but that’s the price we had to pay to get this movie. I think that if it was a theatrical release with a much larger budget we wouldn’t get the story. The investors would demand something grander and because it’s their movie they would have too much to say so. This is definitely the second best predator movie and may be a better movie than the first one but the first one is the best because they were starting from scratch and had to create the predator universe.

Note that the Predator only hunted other *predators*, aka lethal targets. He also had to match the quarry, weapon for weapon, according to their hunting ritual law.

It has been used as not only a medicinal plant but as a cooking herb for centuries. in addition to breaking fevers and slowing blood flow, its also a pretty good disinfectant. Yuatja, I believe is pronounced Yeow-Tja. As we all know there are different classes and subclasses. This is a Feral Class. they preferred the fight more than stealth kills. probably why it chose to wrestle a whole bear, hand to hand with the Native Warriors, with minimal weaponary and tech. Im so glad you caught on the more primative type of predator. Predators weapons/tech evolved based on when and where they hunted. its safe to say that since this Yuatja had a shield, a rail weapon simular to arrows or cross bows, that the species has been to Earth before this; thats why in 1987s Predator we get a hunter class with a plasma cannon. Also this Yuatja couldve been a subclass called Young Bloods, untestested, it may have been its first hunt. it may have also been being watched by a Blooded Predator. hence why it was dropped off rather than landing its own ship..so many theories lol i also liked no subtitles for the french trappers. even though we heard english i think it was assumed the Comanche were speaking their native tongue, so she couldnt understand the trappers, why should we be able to, right? lastly, the word Tabai shouted when he did work on the Yautja and it cloaks is rougly translated to, "cheater.." such a breath of fresh air to the franchise... i believe Jean Claude was only the Predator for a bit. he quit because he was over heating. the director and Arnold wanted the predator to make him look small. enter Kevin Peter Hall, 7'2". lol.

Very ingenious with all of the more primitive weapons. For being almost 300 years in the past, he still had the laser guided helmet but no energy weapon - more along the lines of an electromagnetic rail gun with spike projectiles and, when you think about it, all of his weapons were throwing weapons. His cloak was also more primitive ... just a camouflage field and not a layer of energy armor.

Think about it. Most big-game hunters in our society also don't really understand how most of their techniques and equipment actually operates. They have a very general comprehension of its purpose and operation, and that's about it. Granted, the "best" hunters don't really have that issue, but this guy pretty clearly didn't know what was up with Earth. At the very least, this one specifically has never been to our planet before. He might've been a relatively new hunter overall. Which would also explain why he's not packing EVERYTHING we've seen Predators have before. He hasn't earned any of it yet (and now never will).

This is the first time for Predators on earth. They mention that in the extras/featurettes. So he was clueless about the planet hence why he was "studying" and surveying the environment by taking out multiple dangerous animals.

Couple interesting things: the dog is not a typical modern dog, they tracked down a rare breed, it was a Carolina Dog which is one of the oldest breeds that still exist and it was the type of dog that would fit in the time period. Also, not only where the actors playing natives actual indigenous actors, but a lot of the film crew were also. Oh, I think [a bit more than 50/50] that this was the dog's first acting job.
