I seen that kinda impersinators/scammers on almost every channel, at some point, they always copy the KZreadr's Profile Picture, but the name is not exactly the same and no Check Mark... if You scroll up and compare the real Channel name, to confirm it is a scammer. Everyone that sees these messages should always Report for "Unwanted Commercial/Spam" so that these messages get blocked from other peoples view, so less chance anyone will fall for whatever the Scam is, or maybe these Scammers are trying to collect personal information ? And maybe Amanda can just DELETE those comments whenever she notices them as well !?

Also the police plot twist at the end was the last joke... there are revival theaters that run the film and audiences will wait all the way until the lights come up to pay tribute to the joke that the movie didn't end

Amanda, Monty Python was a six man British comedy group. You may have noticed each actor played multiple rolls in this film. They had a tv show in the 1970s called Monty Python’s Flying Circus. I recommend you check that out. Their next movie after this one was Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

When we were little kids, this was our secret film. We would watch this at sleepovers, late at night on public television. It was a blast and a concentrated dose of absurdist comedy that helped make me into the person I am today.

Fun fact, this movie is somehow rated PG in the US, so perfectly suitable to watch in highschool classrooms. Every free class or trip we took for the marching band we watched this movie and it never got old.

@@dudermcdudeface3674 He definitely says "dirty", trust me, albeit he says it in an outrrrrageous French accent, which makes it sound like "duhtty". There's no "f" in there, though, so it's not "daffy" at all. Apart from Daffy Duck, "daffy" was rarely used in British English when this film was made in the 1970s, and it still isn't commonly used, either.

EVERYTIME, no matter how many times, EVERYTIME the Rabbit scene comes up, tears of laughter flow from my eyes, non stop! ;)

The reason John Cleese had that long pause before saying Tim, is because he forgot the name of the Enchanter he was playing and came up with a name on the spot.

Hi Amanda! This movie was made with a tiny budget. So tiny, they couldn't afford to hire horses (except for the one scene where the historian is killed), so they developed the silly idea of having men banging coconuts to sound like horses. The budget also partly explains the use of animated sequence because it was cheaper than adding real effects, but also, the Monty Python show contained many animated sequences. The animator was the only American in the otherwise British group, Terry Gilliam. Gilliam didn't typically appear on scene but he did in this movie, as one of the "horses" and other parts. Gilliam also directed this movie and would go on to direct many wonderful and fantastical movies, including Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Time Bandits, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Tideland, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, among others.

I've always expected a sequel where they put Arthur on trial but he's found not guilty since he never had a horse. . . . there'e still time . . .

~4:19 - One of the most awe inspiring cosplays I've seen, was that of a quadruple amputee cosplaying as this black knight.

There's a _lot_ of jokes that go over a lot of people's heads, especially on a first watch. I'll try to explain the couple questions I remember you asking and then I just want to hit a couple of my favorite "little details" jokes: 1. You asked what a swallow was. It's a type of bird. They're usually small to mid-sized, between like 10 and 20 centimeters for the most part, with the average being somewhere around 14 centimeters across all species. Some places call them "martins" instead of swallows, if you know them by that name instead. 2. You asked what the Black Knight meant when he called Arthur "yellow". Yellow as a color has had a long historical link to cowardice, but nobody really knows about the origin or why. A common idiom in English is calling somebody cowardly a "yellow-belly", but nobody really know why that phrase became associated with cowardice either, because the original term had nothing to do with it. So he's just calling him a coward for running off and leaving the fight "unfinished". 3. When we first meet Sir Bedivere as the crowd runs up to present the witch they found, we see him tying a coconut to a swallow with a piece of string and it flying off, which calls back to the argument at the very beginning about how on earth a swallow would have a coconut carried on a line like they suggested. 4. The movie opens with us being told it takes place in England in the 900s. This sets up why Arthur and the knights always shout "Run away!" instead of "Retreat!" when fleeing from battle. "Retreat" wasn't a word that the English had in the year 900, because it's a word of French origin. It wasn't until almost a century later when the Normans under William the Conqueror took over England and brought French language with them that "Retreat" became a word that would be known to the English, so while it sounds goofy and funny on its own, it's also a fun history joke.

Well being 71 I expected it. For 60 years the Film Cedits were at the beginning of the film and the last thing would be the Director .... Then the film would start!

I expect they wanted to have fun with the credits, but knew if they put them at the end the cinema would be empty by then. A lot of films had credits at the beginning, but often abbreviated, or just the actors/director and other key people.

Whenever someone reacts to The Holy Grail...we are all wait for that unsatisfactory ending, and for the reactor to says something like, "This can't be the end."

Thank you for telling the tale of the Castle Anthrax. I greatly look forward to any sequel that goes into much more detail of that historic place.

The observation about it being like French comedy is interesting. I know Terry Jones, a member of the Monty Python troupe who co-directed this movie and played Sir Bedevere, was a big Jacques Tati fan. Now I'm going to have to watch more French comedy.

several years ago the Pythons took the Camelot song & turned it into a full fledged Broadway musical called Spamalot. it won multiple Tony awards & grossed $175 million.

True, but _Spamalot_ wasn't written by the Python team, only Eric Idle. He wrote the script and lyrics, and co-wrote the music with John Duprez. Whatever, it's a hilarious show, and very true to the spirit of the original. Less well-known, but still funny, is Idle's "oratorio" _(Not) The Messiah,_ which is a spinoff from _The Life of Brian._

With Monty Python movies, never assume anything is gonna make sense.

Before Star Wars, having the credits before the movie was an industry standard. Lucas insisted on putting the credits after the movie and the standard ended up changing.

Their TV show was Monty Python's Flying Circus and they had skits and animation.

I remember watching Monty Python's flying circus when I was a kid back in the late 60's or early 70's. You should watch some of those episodes.

The ferocity of the French taunting changed the course of history.

It takes about 5 years after watching it the first time to get over the ending's sudden betrayal...then it's life canon

My favorite comedy from my favorite reactor. My day just got a lot better.

That is a great segment of the movie. I think my favorite part is when it finally dawns on him just HOW "lucky" he is about to "get". (if he merely agrees) "Well? I GUESS I could stay a BIT longer." Only to be "rescued" by Lancelot! (poor guy) And then him trying to argue with his "rescuers" the whole way out! "Bet you're gay!" "No I'm not." Makes me tear up with laughter every time.

Great reaction to a comedy classic! Before anyone says it, the idea for using coconut shells wasn't because they ran out of money and couldn't afford horses - that's just an urban myth that's grown up over the years. In fact, the coconut-clopping was decided in one of the earliest script-writing sessions purely because it was a silly and surreal idea.

You can visit Doune Castle in Scotland where they filmed all the castle scenes. Gift shop has coconuts you can borrow to take a gallop around the castle.

@@pointystories582 Some actors just can't resist an anecdote, and won't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Years, perhaps decades before that John Cleese clip, Terry Jones, director and co-writer of Holy Grail confirmed in a Python "biography" that Michael Palin came up with the idea of clopping coconuts. This happened at an early planning session, but Jones said nothing about not being able to afford horses. That was hardly surprising, as the coconut idea came up long before the script was finalised, and even longer before they knew how much budget they'd have to work with. Besides, few if any of the Pythons knew how to ride horses, so the idea of using real horses seems inherently unlikely... and nowhere near as funny as having servants clopping coconut halves together :)

Its the first time disappointment was used as a vehicle for comedy genius , Camelot looked such a funny place too , but they said lets not go there is a silly place , brilliant

The credits being at the beginning of the film were the standerd until the mid to late 70's. Star Wars is beleieved to be the leader of the change in practices because Lucas wanted the film to start with audiences being immediately thrown into the action and opening credits would ruin the whole flow of his vision. It was a big reason why he had such a hard time getting it picked up and why he bascically had to self-produce. So you could argue that Lucas Films exits today only becuse of a dispute about when to show the credits.

The absurdity was very appealing to middle school me and my friends. We watched it countless times until many of the lines were burned into our minds. There are still funny bits, but later Python movies are stronger and funnier. Like you, I have to be in the right mood. However, I do enjoy watching other people’s reactions to this movie. I used to own all the Python records. I watched the entire series when it aired on PBS late at night (again, during middle school). I got to see them perform live at the Hollywood Bowl when I was in college. I was definitely a superfan. Now years later, some of their stuff holds up, some of it doesn’t. I think I got bored with the repetición of seeing their more popular skits (or hearing them ritually repeated by other fans). What is your favorite Python movie? I go back and forth between Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.

Coming from "yellow-belly". Apparently the use as an insult for coward stems from ornithology, but I don't get why a bird with a yellow belly would be more timid than others. Maybe it's just the general indication of calling someone a little bird, the first use seems to have been in the 1800's after all.

Robin Hood - Men in Tights is of a similar comedy style and absolutely hilarious...well worth a reaction..

Yeah... credits at the start was the old way of doing movies. Also, for this movie, it actually starts with the credits... read them. This movie has been a big part of geek/nerd culture since it came out. There are *so* many quotes from it.

I'll never forget coming out with random quotes from this movie in middle-school and high-school while high, and seeing how many people had no clue what we were talking about as everyone who knew cracked up at their looks of confusion. Yeah, those were the days.

‘My kingdom for a horse’ is a quotation from act 5, scene 4 of Shakespeare’s Richard III, At the end of the play Richard has lost his horse on the battlefield and we see his extreme frustration. King Richard: A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!
