I weighed 220pnds at that age and that different way of using forearms and hands was incredible. IP Man is a fictional character, Donnie Yen is a trained martial artist. 19:54 'big ass stick' is meant to be the 10-foot pole, one of only two weapons that wing chun style uses (the other being butterfly knives, between them short- and long-range weapons are covered) The facts about Ip Man's life are more than a bit dramatized, but pretty much all the fight scenes Donnie Yen does are pure wing chun kung fu, walk into any modern wing chun school and you'll be taught some of these techniques from your very first lesson. (usually we call them 'chain punches' but I'm going to refer to them as McFlurries from now on ;)

Great video! Love your genuine and humble reactions to this awesome movie! :D Just wanna share something I found interesting about the final fight scene with the Japanese General. Apparently it is forbidden for any martial artists to fight with the same vigour as with their training dummies. It is said that during such trainings, the practitioner hits to kill, and martial arts should never be used as a means to mortally wound. So the significance of playing his training scene concurrently with his final burst of punches at the end on the Japanese General reflects not only the rage that Ip Man felt towards the Japanese, but also the magnitude of it for him to toss away such a fundamental rule of his practice. Hope people find this as interesting as I did.

This movie was set in a period piece of WW2. I met the Chinese grandmother of my best friend here in Australia who was a young girl during the "rape of Nanking". There are many books about this. A very strong lady who spared no details of what she went through and saw. I went to tears as she told me her story & she kept asking if I was okay. I felt bad that she should even have to ask me this, given her life. It's so insane what a human being, no matter their country, will do when they are told all their life that "those people over there are devils and we need to destroy them". They only learn this from the real devils, who are political leaders willing to forge hate amongst us through propaganda for they own benefit, & poison school children to hate anyone who is not from where they are. Dante has a special circle of hell for such evil people.

I absolutely LOVE Donnie Yen in every Ip Man movie he was in. Love how he goes through all that action, and in violent situations...still keeps that calm look on his face. The man is amazing. He wasn't really trained by him personally as the Grandmaster doesn't trained newly beginning students and it is the senior students job to train them. So he was mostly taught by one of Ip Man's top students, Wong Sheung Leung. Yet, never completed his training above most of basics. Though his system of Jeet Kun Do would implement Boxing, Western Fencing and basic Wing Chun.

Ip man his son is still alive. Ip Chun is his name. And the old man is also seen in the movie: ip man, the legend is born. Where he plays the role in a shop where he learns the younger ip man his style of wing Chung. Sooo Ip man his real son: ip Chun is teaching basically his father in the movie.

You might have seen Donnie and didn't know who he was, he's the blind dude in Star Wars: Rogue One, a vampire assassin in Blade 2, a henchman in Shanghai Knights (Jackie Chan/Owen Wilson), he was in the live action Mulan, he'll be in John Wick 4 next year and signed on to a live action adaption Sleeping Dogs. Funny coincidence, he played an immortal assassin in Highlander: Endgame named Jing Ke and he was in Hero with Jet Li who also played Jing Ke/The Nameless who kills his character, the same guy from history, he tried to assassinate the Emperor of China in 227 BC.

Like many movies based on real life events, this movie overall is a work of fiction, Ip Man was but a humble policeman during his time in Fo Shan. Now the Wing-Chun style that Donnie Yen uses comes directly from the real Ip Man’s son, Ip Chun. Who took it upon himself to teach Donnie Yen his father’s style and is even credited as a Wing-Chun consultant for the movie.

Ip Man has made legendary of his amazing skills of kungfu along of training Bruce Lee as his pupil. Even of course, there is a video game called Shaolin vs. Wutang adding Wing Chun as the character to play on! Check or play that game & you'll be amazed!👍🏿👌🏿⛩☯️🙏🏿

Consider one of my favorites in this genre- “Forbidden Kingdom” with Jackie Chan and Jet Li- It’s nowhere near the intensity of the IP man backdrop Pure fantasy based on the legend of “The Monkey King” But tremendous choreography and a really fun story- Suitable for most children even - For hardcore “Blade Of The Immortal “ You won’t find a wilder opening sequence I’ve watched it at least 20 times- Fantastic

This is where bruce lee was the like the father of mma. He learned wing chun from ip man but he notice there was some offensive flaws so he only took in the principle of defensive from ip man and bruce lee created grappling and some hand bar take down used in today mma. Bruce lee also learn boxing and kick boxing. A lot of mma figther also states bruce lee was the father of mma since a lot if his moves are used in mma ufc today. A lot of mma fighters said bruce lee if he was alive today would do really well in mma cause he made some mma moves well known back in his time.
