And yet, I just found another reactor I like who is good about not talking over dialogue, and the complaint committee rips her frequently for being too quiet. "If I wanted to just watch the movie, I would" There is a balance to it but to some degree, I feel like they can't win. Also I don't mind it as long as it isn't excessive. It lends a degree of credibility to the claim of "first time watching", that they get surprised by/miss these iconic moments we know on an, "I've seen this 10 (or more) times" level of familiarity

From a blog: The fountain pen was a button filler which means it could have been a PENOL (Pen Olson) or a Parker. However, I don't think German soldiers would have been writing with a Parker at that time, or would they? The Parker Vacumatics had been around for quite a while before the start of open hostilities (IIRC, Germany annexed the Sudetenland in 1936, but didn't start actually shooting until they invaded Poland in 1939). Even after the invasion of Poland, it likely would have been possible for a German officer who wanted one to obtain a Parker via Switzerland or, after the invasion of France, get a French one. There were other button fillers around, too, using pressure bars rather than a vacuum driven mechanism like the Vacumatic. BTW, if it was a Vacumatic, it's entirely reasonable to "top up" a partially filled pen to ensure there's enough ink for a long writing session, and it wasn't completely out of the question to fill a pen before starting to write even with pressure bar button fillers (or lever, or crescent, or coin or hatchet or slide or twist fillers, for that matter).

QT creates the story, writes the story, directs the actors, chooses the cameras and lenses, and he is indeed behind the camera. unless he’s making a brief cameo. But even then, it is with strict instructions. you know more than I do about cinematography but I am betting that all the little quirks you noticed with the lenses, cameras, lighting and angles were all deliberate. Often times it’s a nod to the other type of film geeks out there. The ones who are obsessed with the way old movies were filmed and he shoots them in that particular way to honor them. Even, or especially if that scene had a mistake. Some people say that he is just a rip off artist because of this, I disagree. And you are right, this was shot on film. He will never use digital or cgi. Watch the Hateful 8 for a very rare camera and film combo.

The proposed escape through Spain makes sense. Even though Franco was a right-wing fascist, he never joined the Axis (due to a disparity in Spains demands and Nazi-Germanys offers in goods and weapons). Also, even though he used anti-semitic language and positions in his speeches, he only provided the Nazis with a list of spanish jews, but did not deport them and/or limit their citizenship. Spain supposedly has the highest count of transitioning jewish refugees during WW2 with about 20k-35k. So yes, the man was heinous and a fascist. But he did not stoop as low as the Nazis did.

Awe, I love sauerkraut. Garlic and dill is my absolute favorite. I like a ginger turmeric kraut too. Taking some slices of rye bread, with Thousand Island dressing, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and apple caraway kraut is soooo good! Garlic and dill kraut goes with bratwurst so beautifully. I like for all my kraut to be live cultures. Live kraut is very good for gut health and good digestion. Full of vitamin C too. Orange and lemon kraut is sweet, sour, and full of vitamins and C. Great on salads.

Remember, as indicated at the *very start* of the film with "Once upon a time..." this is a *fairy tale* version of WWII. 😁 Tarantino had a story to tell, he didn't care about historical accuracy, and by providing the fairy-tale introduction he's telling the audience they shouldn't care about historical accuracy, either. Anybody who knew anything, knew in 1944 that Germany was going to lose -- and Landa is no fool. Moreover, he's got American commandos *in Paris* within striking distance of German leadership -- and they couldn't be kept out. So, yeah, Landa decides to cut a deal.

Spain was officially Neutral in WWII. Many people tried to go there from France because it was easier to get away through Spain than it was from the German occupied areas.

You're wrong mate, many Jews and others that were hunted by 'ze Sjermans' fled into Spain in order to get to Portugal mostly, from which it was relatively easy to get to the UK due to their strong allyship. PS: I was born in '79 and we had to learn to write with such a 'fountain pen'.

I get that you love talking but constantly going off on tangents over every insignificant piece of minutiae really kills the flow of the film. Or as my grandpa would say, you're the kind of guy that takes an hour and a half to watch 60 minutes. Do what you want to do but just as a bit of constructive criticism, going into granular detail over every trivial action or turn of phrase can turn people off of your content. Is the consistency of unpasteurized milk really key to the plot? Did we need two speeches on the matter? Is the mechanics of a fountain pen really that fascinating and do you think it matters one iota to the plot of the film? Some stuff you just got to let slide, my man.

I would rather be in a Chinese prison being tortured for years, rather than watch a movie with this gentleman here. What do you do at the movie theater when you can’t comment about every little thing that happens ? 😂 Do you even enjoy the movie? why do you think that every question being asked on the movie is being asked to you ? 😂 I tried my best and couldn’t last but ten minutes. He seems like a nice guy I’ve just never seen anyone watch movies like this. Anyway, y’all have fun??? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Trivia: Landa gets Shoshana to eat strudel w/ cream and a glass of milk 🥛. To remind her of the dairy farm massacre. When he grabs the daughters hand @ the farm: It's not to be creepy, but to check her pulse to see if she's nervous or not

Why I love this channel: "Why would someone make a movie about baby goats?" the actual confusion "Maybe because they're cute" The gasp at the Colonel joining the table That dual focus split screen frame analysis and all the focus on shots You caught on to the finger counting so fast! that huge laughing fit at Brad Pitt's Italian accent.

This is my first time watching one of your videos, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel! Just subscribed. This is my favorite movie of all time, and your analysis and reaction was absolutely fascinating--you pointed out things that I hadn't understood (from a filmography perspective, I'm just an average movie watcher), and I'm so glad you loved it too! I'm going to go check out some of your other videos, nice work!

This is one of those movies that you'll notice things during a second viewing you missed in the first, like when Hans held the daughter's wrist. He was checking her pulse for any reaction. Hateful Eight, Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained. Top top! Wasn't paying too much attention to "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood," so I can't say if it's in the same league (will rectify that soon).

A little sidenote: there's exactly one word being spoken in Polish in the entire movie. When Hans Landa decides not to shoot Shoshanna, he says "pusty" which means empty, referring to his gun. Anyway, I enjoyed two things: the level of knowledge being displayed about moviemaking and other things... aaand the absolute disgust emanating from this video whenever certain foods were mentioned. :D It's as if I saw myself talk about onions (which I absolutely DESPISE) and even though I don't agree with any of the food takes in this video, I gotta respect someone who has as strong opinions on food as I tend to have. Anyway, I subscribed. :D
