I'd highly suggest watching the recent documentary on the Springboks Wordcup run in 2023. It's called "Chasing the sun 2", you'll get a new level of appreciation for the South African players, and Eben is a monster in it.

Players in rugby respect the referee , doesn't matter the size or aggression , they all appeal to the refs understanding and apologize ( hoping to get off with a warning ) . Eben learnt a lot from Bakkies Botha , who stopped playing when they added an extra 6 hi res camera's to the field knowing he wasn't going to get away with some of his physical corrective measures anymore .

Fun fact about Eben: He kept strapping smaller weights to the dumbbells in his gym because the weight was too light for him, so they had to custom order 80kg (177lbs) dumbbells for him to train with.

Eben in blue (WP) took out Bismark Du Plessis in white (Sharks) . Bismark is one the the best, toughest and most feared players on the field. Eben was just starting out there. This was in 2012. "I have never seen this in any internation play, he's (Bismark) always the biggest, he's always the strongest..." - Commentary.

11:02 Line outs , if the ball leaves play on the sides of the field from hand or boot ( not going forward ) the opposition to the last player handling or in possession of the ball gets the throw in ( except in the case of penalties which go to the kicking side ) , the teams line up the throwing team dictates how many players both sides are allowed in the playing area (normally 5,7 or 9) ( these are the forwards numbering 1-8 and the scrum half number 9 )ball must be thrown straight both sides jump to contest the ball , but cannot be lifted only supported ( so he jumper needs to leap into the air but then can be lifted higher and held up ) It is a penalty offense to close the gap before the throw or to interfere with the jumping player . The jumping players are normally locks ( number 4 or 5 ) but sometimes tall loose forwards ( 6,7 or 8 ) supported by 1,3 (props) and the other loose forwards number 2 ( hooker) throws the ball in , the other player allowed in the 5 meter play area is the scrum half , who works as a transition between the set piece and the "attacking" backs . Eben is a number 4 but is getting old , so he leaves the jumping to the number 5 ( Mostert , he was the guy with the blood all over his face in one of your other vids , Snyman or De Jager ) but still contests . Might want to have a look at Snymans vids the man is a viking berserker .

brother, You're looking at the extreme's in the Springbok team. None of these players win or lose a game for us. It is 100% a team effort. Take a look at players like Jesse Kriel , De Alende, Malcolm Marx, Mapimpi, Kolisi, Ox Nche, Arendse etc...Even previous generations, Bismark Du Plessis, The struggle Chester Williams allegedly faced. Do the research. People love this. South Africans have a blood lust when it comes to rugby. Our nation is so fucked it is frightening, and yet we get sport right for some reason while government isn't involved.

It’s interesting to see peoples concepts of an enforcer. Bakkies and Etzebeth are polar opposites to New Zealand AllBlack enforcers. Buck Shelford - Shelford changed everyone's thinking about what being tough actually meant. The fact he was able to play on with badly ripped testicles says it all. Jerry Collins (RIP) - Big Jerry's biceps had a diameter of 58cm which meant when he hit people, they stayed down. Collins was more of a terminator than an enforcer. Colin Meads - It wasn't just playing with the broken arm that made Meads a legendary enforcer. He had an aura - he emanated a definite vibe that suggested he should be approached with caution. Richie McCaw - He played throughout the World Cup on a broken foot and has been subjected to a legion of cheap shots in his 116 test career and taken them all without retaliation. TOTALLY different types of enforcers and hard men. No crazy eyes or flying punches…just brute strength and hard out rugby

Best highlight not shown here was Etzebeth being picked up and raised horizontally by the Ireland players James Lowe and Josh van der Flier and marched backwards. He is kept in the air for some time, with legs dangling out of the maul in a huge defence effort from Ireland. Was a sight to see!
