    great reaction, you giggled about as much as I did the first time I watched! I think what you missed about Neil is that he was trying to impress her with money but she is already from a rich family so he's not offering her anything she doesn't already have, it sort of comes across as him assuming she must be shallow instead of paying attention to what she might actually be impressed by.

    Not at all dear - I explained that people discuss what they feel makes them look good. Johnny talked music and dancing - Neil talked property and money. Both men put forward their best hand - Baby just loved one. And that's her choice. not saying Neil was great but the film kinda painted him that way too

    @@ScenecrlyK.S.O. I get that Neil's best asset was his money but he didn't take into account that if baby is also well off then it doesn't come across as a + it just sounds like bragging and snobbyness. The same way Baby could have taken a hint that Johnny was not interested in her to start with...@@missm.e9914 You did see that he didnt want her at the club and was rude to her several times but she didnt give up. She kept coming back. You just don't like Neil. If you were diplomatic - you'd see that both Neil and Johnny had their bad sides. Johnny also had a temper.

    @@ScenecrlyK.S.O. oh no, I think Johnny hated her guts when they first met and was unnecessarily rude, he was looking down on her for being, in his eyes, spoiled and naive, I don't think he's a better first choice or anything. But I'm saying I can see why a girl like Baby would be utterly unimpressed by Neil's constant flexing his wealth.

    I think the spark of this movie is that Baby is supposed to be the naïve little girl that learns life lessons. She is not a beauty and she gets the hunk. But in truth it touches veey heavy social topics, and Baby, with her freshness and idealism, teaches a very good lesson to everybody else. She acts on her principles and ideas and everyone ends respecting her for it. So Idk that it is Baby who "grows up" and changes. Yes, she makes some experiences, but she doesn't really change. She is not "saved". I think there is also a tiny bit of reverse-roles Verdi's Traviata.

    No one expected much from this movie when it was released, just a nice, little B-movie that hopefully will earn a little over the costs... It hit like a bomb. I remember staying in a line for tickets that went out from the theater into the street nearly to the bus stop. Eveyone wanted to see it, multiple times (I saw it !only! 3 times 😅). Somehow it hit the pulse of the time, that not confirming to your parents ideal doesn't mean you are bad, the fantastic soundtrack, the dancing, everyone wanted to dance like Johnny & Baby. It was THE movie of his time!

    At 11:53 - when the dance scoff's at Baby, for some reason so many people don't get this, but she scoff's because she JUST told Baby that her mom kicked her out when she was a teenager so she needed to start dancing to support herself, then Baby, a VERY privilaged child of a doctor who is about to go to college herself tells her "I envy you." Penny scoff's because it's a slap in the face considering where they both came from.

    Patrick Swayze had been trained as a dancer by his dancer/choreographer mother from a young age and was featured in many productions through his twenties. By the time of this film he was around 35 and his knees were in very bad shape and he struggled mightily to disguise his difficulty in doing the lifts and other demanding moves. He managed to get away with it and performed beautifully, but it wasn't easy.

Patrick was an expert trained dancer at that time and although she had experience he pushed her to do better but they didn't hate each other. They both had very strong personalities and attitudes to their work. If I was bringing my best and somebody kept telling me to do better I would get annoyed too, but they stayed friends up until his death. She cried so much over his memory on Dancing With The Stars. Oh yeah such a classic!! God Bless to you from my mom and I in So. Cal USA 🇺🇸 love your channel! ❤️❤️🙏🙏 Love to all reading this from wherever you are tuning in from! A favorite for my mom and I! Actress Jennifer Grey from this movie was on Dancing with the stars and she won the mirror ball trophy with her partner Derek Hough. She loved Patrick. Such a handsome man! ❤️❤️ RIP. Patrick’s mom in real life as a ballet 🩰 choreographer while his dad was rooted in sports. Patrick excelled in both and is the epitome of a true Texas gentleman! He also excelled at horse back riding as well at his ranch in Texas. ❤️ Accent and all! The song “She’s Like A Wind,” is in this film and be really sings it and it’s one of my favorites! Along with the song they dance to in the end “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life,” sung by Bill Medley from the righteous brothers and Jennifer Warnes. Best dance scene ever! You will find out! My mom used that song for her middle school class when they graduated. Everyone has done this dance routine and is usually performed at weddings. No one and I mean no one can do it like Patrick and Jennifer! When I was a sophomore in high school I did a dance class thing for extra credit. In May my partner and I decided to surprise our dance teacher by doing this performance from Dirty Dancing. Her husband was over seas in the military and it was their wedding anniversary. They got married when this movie came out and danced to this song at their wedding. She loved the song so when she heard the song start playing we did it for her while her husband watched from a computer where he was was stationed. Yes we did the famous lift and it was so hard but we did it and everyone watching us loved it as did my teacher. My favorite part was when the beat picks up in the song. Patrick and Jennifer did one take on that lift in the end and they nailed it! Perfect 10s all around! ❤️❤️ “No one puts baby in the corner.” Lol 😂 Sich an iconic line! ❤️❤️ “Hungry Eyes,” by Eric Carmen is also in this movie. You’ve probably reacted to many of these songs as well on your other channel! Actress Kelly Bishop is in this movie and she went on to play Emily Gilmore in the hit TV series Gilmore Girls. You will love this movie and stay tuned till the end!! You will need those tissues! ❤️❤️ Yes Patrick did all his own stunts! Check him out in The Outsiders 1983. Also a wonderful movie!! And Roadhouse. ❤️❤️ No one will ever play this role like Patrick! He’s one of my moms favorite actors! You will swoon! Lol 😂 I am so excited for you to watch this amazing film!! Love to all! ❤️❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

    No thanks, Neil's a walking red flag. Bragging about "taking women away" from other guys because he has money is NOT a flex, nor does him being "average looking" make him a good guy. In fact MOST average guys are the BIGGEST narcissist jerks you'll ever meet, and those are the Neil vibes.

    She just isn't an innocent "baby" as her parents think she is and she looks like that too. She just didn't let herself try her sexy self before this. So it's not that she is looking down on Neil, she just think he's boring...and I agree 😊.

    Aaah! I was so excited to see one of my favorite reactors watch one of my all time favorite films and you did not disappoint!! As far as Neil is concerned, I think Baby avoids anything that smells of snobbery, so when Neil started flexing his wealth and privilege, that turned her off. She also seems to romanticize poverty, having never experienced the trauma of it herself (for example, when she tells Penny she envies her for getting kicked out of her home as a teenager and is now struggling to survive as a dancer). While I find Neil's comments about his "taking girls" from another person to be off-putting (like they're an object to be won instead of genuinely respecting women like Johnny does), I really appreciate the empathy you bring for his character and perspective. This film has meant so much to me over the years, with its incredibly feminist portrayal of a coming of age story that was so rare during my own coming-of-age years. I also grew up with someone close to me who had to have a back alley abortion and was open about her experiences and those of others she knew. So, I grew up understanding the importance of having access to safe medical care and was so appreciative that the writer made it a necessary plot point. Your reactions to this were wonderfully entertaining - you had me cackling in the room by myself. So much fun! Btw, if you're looking for recommendations for more critically-acclaimed romantic films, I highly recommend the Before Trilogy (starting with Before Sunrise). Some consider it the best cinematic trilogy ever. Thanks so much!

    Baby doesn't "romanticize" poverty, she just doesn't look down on it. Neil is just an egomaniacal creep.

  • @twofriendsreact

    @twofriendsreact

    7 ай бұрын

    @@radicalreactions1633 My thinking that Baby romanticizes poverty doesn't stem from any of her interactions with Neil, but rather the poorer people in the film. Perhaps it's just a reflection of my own time being below the poverty-line, but there's a strong familiarity to me in the way that Baby doesn't seem to see the very real harms of living in poverty while appreciating the "freedoms" it seems to give those suffering under it, and the ways that wealthier people talked to me about poverty while never having experienced it themselves. They didn't understand the real ways it crushes the minds and bodies of those dealing with it. Even when Johnny or Penny try to describe to her the realities of the cycle of poverty the live in (and they're good looking, skilled, and able-bodied), she mostly sees the positive aspects because she doesn't fully understand it. And I don't blame her for this - it's entirely understandable to not get the nuances of something you yourself haven't experienced and to minimize the bad parts as a result. She gets to enjoy the benefits because the harms never really touch her life the way it does their's. That's what I mean by romanticizing it. And, yeah, Neil definitely gives me the creepies lol

    Movies that Made Us on Netflix has an episode devoted to Dirty Dancing with some interesting factoids: 1/ the director had never directed a feature film. His one credit was a a short movie documentary 2/Swayze was a football player and who injured his knee. He had to do the leap off the stage multiple times which aggravated his old injury. He told them he could only do it one more time. That final leap was the shot they used. 3/ Swayze’s mom was a dance instructor so he knew how to dance really well + took it seriously. His annoyance with Jennifer Grey during the dance montages were real. 4/ Swayze and Grey didn’t like each other during the early part of the filming. It was a holdover from a movie they did earlier. Apparently Swayze initiated the reconciliation. 5/ Billy Zane was initially selected for Johnny because he had the charm even if he wasn’t quite what they envisioned. The fact he couldn’t dance was the nail in the coffin.

    When Johnny and Baby are dancing at the end her mom says, “ I think she gets it from me.” Mrs. Housman is played by Kelly Bishop who was the original Sheila Bryant in the long running dramatic Broadway musical A Chorus Line. It’s about a group of dancers auditioning for a small number of spots in the chorus of a big show. The audience gets to know about the characters’ lives and their struggles. The dancers also express the intense desperation that they feel because they need money to pay rent and so on. The movie is terrible by the way.

    You need to watch The Outsiders (1983) it stars Patrick Swayze and a few other familar actors who are heartthrobs in it. I know you like to read so you'll be happy to know that The Outsiders is a book that was writen by S.E. Hinton who was 16 years old at the time she has a few other books that were made into films called Tex (1982) Rumble Fish (1983) and That was Then This Is Now (1985). Patrick Swazye wrote the song "She's like the wind" (which is playing when Johnny leaves in the car) and I believe he wrote about his IRL wife
