    In the comics, Gwen Stacy is Peter's very first love interest, as well as having to build his own synthetic web shooters. Only the Tobey Spider-Man movies made his webs shoot naturally from his wrists. Andrew's cocky and quippy Spider-Man is very accurate too!

    Also, I think the main reason Andrew doesn't have an MJ is because of two reasons, they tried to fit her in the story but couldn't. Also, if the writers were following the original comics, Peter actually fell for Gwen Stacy first and didn't meet MJ until later after high school.

    What I love about this version of Peter is, instead of being a loser for being a “nerd” like Tobey & Holland, this version is more of an outcast cause of his personality (he’s awkward, shy, and jittery). Then when he’s Spider-Man he comes alive and is the funniest of the 3 versions. I also like the expectation subversion with the bullies on the subway, where even though they’re screwing with Peter, they still stick up for the girl when they think Peter is harassing her. It’s a great set-up to Flash’s redemption, showing there is always another side to people ALSO, as a New Yorker, Andrew’s Spidey sounds the most like one

  • @ChrisPTenders

    @ChrisPTenders

    I think the Raimi depiction of Peter Parker gave people the idea he's supposed to be a nerd, but nobody realizes that's actually a unique take, just like making him awkward and jittery. In the comics he's actually written as someone who everyone hates because he's a condescending narcissist, which makes writing a true comic book accurate Peter Parker a very hard sell as a character to any movie studio. We've had multiple takes on the character in comics as well. The misunderstood cool guy was done in the Ultimate series, where he successfully uses his powers to earn respect and becomes popular in high school. There's even a comic version of Peter written like a young Tony Stark, so pretty much every movie version of Peter had a comic run that did a similar take a few years prior to the adaptation.

    The portrayal of Peter’s personally from Garfield is actually a lot more in line with the comics than Maguire. Peter never really had that puppy dog quality. He had a chip on his shoulder and would still say what he wanted. Even if he looked like a nerd, but he stopped looking like a nerd shortly after he became Spider-Man. And this version of Spider-Man is much more in line with the comics. As he really goes after the people he’s fighting with clever insults to throw them off.

The closest we ever came was Fembots and Sasquatch episodes against Steve and/or Jamie. And when those happened, I was all in! But we never got that with the comic heroes. Never a Goblin or a Vulture or a Shocker. Never a Leader or an Abomination or an Absorbing Man. Never a Cheetah or a Circe or a Silver Swan. Just 3 or 4 guys with baseball bats and flannel shirts. This version of Spider-Man is actually way more true to the original comics than Tobye's. Not only did the original Spider-Man build his web shooters, as he wasn't able to produce the web in his body (no idea why Sam Raimi went with that), but Gwen was also the original love interest. Plus Peter always has been as cheeky/sassy, especially when talking to bad guys. Tobey's version had some attempts of that, but here they really made it stick out, which I actually love.

  • @ethanrodgers2838

    @ethanrodgers2838

    Also another thing that makes him a little more accurate is that he didn’t jump into the hero game after Uncle Ben died. In the Lee and Ditko run, Peter didn’t put on his costume to become a superhero after Ben’s death. He was still looking for ways to profit off of his powers, as him letting the thief get away screwed him and his aunt financially. It wasn’t until like 4 or so issues that he thought about being a hero. So yeah, I give this movie props for that.

    Hey there, To answer your question about Andrew not being spiderman in the MCU, it was a licencing issue. Spiderman lives with Sony, and for a long time Marvel couldn't use him. After the Amazing spiderman 2 came out, Sony was beginning to create a bad reputation as a studio and so in desperate times, they came together with Marvel to make a "unique" licencing deal: We'll let you use spiderman in the MCU, If you help us (Sony) make better Spider-Man movies in your universe. And that is why we have a third spiderman, to start new without carrying the baggage andrews movies had. Hope that helps! ✌

    The funniest part about the Garfield Spiderman movies and the hate that they got is that Garfield's take on Spiderman (and on Peter, if we're being honest) is more comic-accurate than the Tobey or Tom Holland versions are. The cockiness, the quirkiness, the constant quips and one-liners, the movements, all are so much more like the comics in Garfield's version. Plus the cinematography is so much better than the Raimi movies had, the first-person shots of Spiderman swinging through the city still hold up incredibly well today. It probably helps that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy actually has some agency and is highly competent, instead of basically every female character being a constant damsel-in-distress screaming for help every 5 minutes like in the Raimi movies. Also, poor Andrew Garfield, not getting a third Spiderman movie....he absolutely deserved to get one.

He just wanted to take revenge and not get caught so he started using Spiderman mask. The bridge scene where he saves the kid, is when he actually became a Spiderman and realised he has more to do than just catch a guy who killed his uncle. Aunt May is a two time Academy Award winner for Best Actress. Might be worth your while to watch a few of her movies someday. The Williamsburg Bridge is featured in a chase scene in 'The Naked City' (1948), a good movie and you'll be amazed at how much the neighborhood has changed. Great reaction!

    What's funny is that Sally Field had no interest in these films and only appeared as a favour to her dying friend (the film's producer, Laura Ziskin), yet you would not be able to tell that based on her excellent performance here

    Great reaction as always Vicky! I always felt that this movie was underrated and I really liked Andrew Garfield's performance in it, Emma Stone does a great job too..... their chemistry was great. In the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, Flash Thompson is portrayed so much better than in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man's. I thought The Lizard was an interesting choice for Garfield's Spider-Man' first villain (and I agree with you, Dr. Conners is not an evil man). Again, great reaction. Many blessings to you and yours.

    Also, yes, this is a different Spider-Man story from the Tobey Maguire or Tom Holland one. It does not exist in the MCU, but the recent films have made it exist in the broader Marvel cinematic Multiverse. Also, the organic web shooters that Tobey Maguire has were actually his idea, And more traditionally Spider-Man has to make his own web shooters

    The best promises are the ones you don't keep to a dying man about protecting his daughter, after giving no explanation why you didn't show up at his funeral when everyone else did, and then shutting her out of your life when she confronts you about it, then acting like none of that happened. Those are the best.

    Sony's deal with Marvel was that to keep control, Sony has to produce a new Spider-Man movie every few years, after the first 3 McGuire movie, the powers that be felt they had told all the stories they could and wanted a new Spidey to generate attention and change the story & back story around. Freshen it up, new coat of paint, change the love interest, etc.. Same after Andrew Garfield's 2 movies.

    Hi, I'm a MoCap performer and gotta say they've created quite a stylish fight and movement choreography for this. I also wanted to share a painful story of mine about the new Resident Evil Remakes. In late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the RE 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part... Now, many years later, when I see how successful those remakes are I can't forgive myself for wasting such a chance. In this business one audition can change your entire life.

    Spider-man uses web shooters only the Sam Raimi films starring Tobey McGuire changed this. Superheroes in general have different characteristics based on the writers. Sometimes Peter is a nerd that gets bullied other times he is dorky genius kid with his own friends group. It also depends on if the story is during his high school years, his college years or full adult. I definitely look forward to your next reaction. New York City allows students to select public schools within the 5 boroughs with an exception for specialty schools where an exam is required.

    Just to make it clear, the Raimi/Tobey Spider-Man movies were changed up certain things from the comics. For example, in Tobey’s Spider-Man his web comes out organically from his wrist. But in the comics, Peter developed his own web shooters. In Tobey’s version, Peter was the typical clumsy nerd. But in earlier comics, Peter did not belong to any cliques or groups. He was more of an outcast and on his own doing his own thing. He was socially awkward and jittery, but super intelligent at the same time. He actually did take interests and dated other girls before Gwen and MJ came into the comics. Also, Gwen did come before MJ and was Peter’s first serious relationship. So in terms of being more comic book accurate, it’s definitely Andrew’s versions of Peter and Spider-Man. At first Peter/Spider-Man was cocky because he was all about finding the man who killed Uncle Ben. Then you see his purpose changed when he saved the kid in the car. So you see his growth from immature/vengeful to understanding a hero’s responsibility. Also, yes Andrew and Emma has the best chemistry tbh! The whole cast especially Sally Fields as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben was great casting. I think this version of Spider-Man/Peter Parker was a lot more grounded and real. At least in my opinion, it wasn’t so grand and “SUPERHERO” movie. Some people like that and some people didn’t. Also, a lot of fans wanted that Spider-Man 4 with Tobey..but that obviously didn’t fall through. Instead they had a reboot and recast for Amazing Spider-Man. So already that didn’t make fans very happy because a new Peter/Spider-Man and another version when they just want OG Tobey and Spider-Man 4. Which is sad because again..there were still a good amount of people who gave Andrew and chance and liked TASM and TASM2. There were some interesting change up on the writing especially villain wise in both movies. These two movies weren’t as popular box office like Tobey and Tom. But it wasn’t until these past year or so that people revisit The Amazing Spider-Man and they changed their minds. There’s always a saying.. even though I don’t really agree with it LOL. “Tobey is the best Peter, Andrew is the best Spider-Man, and Tom is a good balance of both” 😆 I grew up with Tobey Spider-Man and he was great. I love Tom and he’s doing a good job as this generations Peter/Spider-Man. But my sentimental favorite Peter and Spider-Man will always be Andrew 👍

    Gwen Stacy was actually Peter's first love interest before MJ. MJ is just his most major and well known love interest so the first Spiderman trilogy skipped straight to her, and it's debatable whether the MCU's MJ is their version of Mary Jane, and a Mary Jane will never appear, or if she's a new character and Mary Jane will come later. Also the reason MCU went with a new spiderman was because these movies were received so poorly at the time that they canceled the planned third movie and wanted to reboot spiderman again.

    In the Spider-Man comics very beginning it was initially Gwen Stacy who Peter Parker was in love with, Mary Jane Watson wasn’t an actual main character for Spider-Man until a couple years later and was a fan favorite. The business back then decided they needed shock factor and the writers of the death of Gwen Stacy comic had a meeting to decide who they needed to kill off between MJ, aunt may, and Gwen Stacy. The initial idea given from the head office was aunt may since she was old but the creators decided against it due to her role being too important to Peter, they couldn’t just give him a new mother figure, but they did have a fan favorite lined up who could replace his love interest so they decided to do that

    Andrew Garfield is almost 40 years old, he's a little old to be playing a high schooler/college kid.. Tobey Maguire is 47. Tom Holland is 26. But Tom was only 17 when he was cast as Spider-Man making him the youngest major actor to play the character in live action, and the closest to the character's actual age. Tobey was 26, Andrew was 27, and Tom was 18 when they started filming on their first film portraying the high schooler.

    There weren’t different timelines until Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sony loses the rights to their super heroes if they don’t make so many movies within a certain time period. That is why the first iteration has Tobey Maguire, and the second had Andrew Garfield. Sony made an agreement with Marvel Studios for the third iteration (Tom Holland) so Spider-Man could be part of the Avengers. The timelines came into play when Marvel Studios decided to delve into the multiverse, and brought the other two SM’s into No Way Home.

    I remember not too much liking this version of Spiderman, but re-watching it again it's not too bad. Like comparing it too Raimi's Films, the two Peter Parkers are very different personality wise and even the principle of responsibility is changed slightly, which is why I don't have a complaint about it because both Peters act the way you would expect them too given the principle that the character was founded on in their own movie. "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility" is something Tobey very much lives up too and to the very the end of the first movie when he denies MJ. With Andrew, it's a bit more vague, it's more like, "if you have the Power to do Good, it is a Responsibility to do Good." Which is fine, but it's why I don't mind Peter getting back with Gwen even though he's breaking her Dad's promise because he's not necessarily doing anything bad or breaking what he was taught so it makes him congruent with his character. In the past I held Andrew to Tobey's morals. ALSO the swing scenes in this duology are some of the best in the entire Spiderman franchise, they're so good. I have a screen recording of them saved on my hard drive.

    I'm sure someone answered this, but the film rights for Spider-man was owned by Sony. If a company has rights to a character, they have to use it or else it goes back to the parent company. The Andrew Garfield films were made because Spider-man 4 was canceled, and Sony had to make a Spider-man film soon so the rights wouldn't go back to Marvel.

    for your question about the spidermen..in Studio and Film point of view, Tobey's spiderman was pre-MCU..remember, the Spiderman franchise is owned by Sony..while the MCU is Disney/ Marvel Studios..so technically, Disney doesnt have any control or power on the spiderman casting..since the MCU started on 2008, and Tobey's spiderman was actually finished by that time..Sony wanted to have their own cinematic universe evolving around spiderman..hence, Andrew's Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2..now, it didnt go off like they wanted..so they scrapped that idea..now, before Captain America: Civil War was released, there has been talks between Sony and Disney to make a deal to share Spiderman..and they wanted that character to last a very long time in the franchise, hence, a younger actor in Tom Holland.. about Gwen and MJ, in the comics, Gwen is Peter's 1st love, around high school i think..then MJ in his college..they twist it in Tobey's films.. as you already watched the Loki series, you can say that Tobey and Andrew's Peter Parker are variants from the other universe outside Tom's Peter Parker.. great reaction V..
