FIRST TIME VOLUNTEERING WITH WORLDPACKERS IN GREECE 》Why I quit after one day - Eco Mar

One month ago I had my first worldpackers volunteering experience here in Athens, Greece. And let me tell you... It was so not what I expected!
Here I tell you a bit about how was my disastrous experience, I hope you have fun with it (haha) and don't have to go through what I did.
Leave it in the comments below if you already used worldpackers to travel for free, if something similar to you happened... let me know!

    Yes, it can be hard, but there's a lot of women doing it, so that shouldn't stop you! And also yes you have to choose your host really carefully, for example, I have a friend in the Netherlands right now, and she says she's having a totally different experience right now, than the one she had at this same hostel I talk about, now she is just a helper, they have regular staff, different from this one in Athens where the volunteers did everything.

    I am greek and let me tell you, a very big percentage of people working in the tourism business, especially as owners / managers are horrible. They just try to milk the tourists for money, the more the better. And also there's no such thing as "organisation" everyone sort of half assed does thing however the hell they want. You must be very lucky to find a place in Greece, especially one that has to do with tourism, that is ran well and is organized and decent.

    Hello Sikta ! Well it always depends on the countries you go and the regions you stay. So it is worth to browse the web a bit to see if where you wanna go is fairly safe for solo female travellers. But don't let fear keep yourself from traveling, just do your research, go and be smart. Greece I can say for sure it is a safe country, but as all cities avoid doing stuff like walking alone empty streets and stuff. Safe Travels!

    Hello! Thanks for the question. If it is for a short period of time, depending on where you are from visa is not requird. Now, if you need to stay longer than 3 months, need to be ther for studies, etc, I highly recommend hiring a lawyer, as it is a super complicated and confusing process.

    I know this was like 2 years ago, but my cousin wants to go to japan by herself this summer througth volunteering with this app. She is quite inexperienced about travelling, and she told us that this was an association that was going to help her travel and stay for free at japan. She also mentioned that they were going to set her up for a paying job. She talked about how she was only paying the plane trip. I feel like she is going to get disapointed whith this trip. Do you recommend her to go? All the family is quite worried about her decision since she is young and unexperienced in traveling. Thankiu😅

  • @theecomar

    @theecomar

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello! Thanks for your comment! I would never recommend not travelling, hahaha, I'm a travel junkie, so my advice would be to research everything she can. Worldpackers is not a platform for paying jobs, it is for volunteering only, so be attentive to that. Also, it is important to be sure the host you are going to is legit, and not rush things. So messaging the host, ask all the questions, be sure you are going to a safe place and know exactly what the process will be, who will pick you up, or who you will have to find, etc. Lastly, it is important to have a back up plan, so be sure to have internet always and a place to stay, like a hotel, if nothing goes right. Maybe I'll do a video on tips for unexperienced travelers, I plan to restore the channel soon. Best luck to her, and thank you for following the channel!

    Of course I wouldn't get my own room, I wasn't counting on it. I was expecting only two things a locker or something to put my stuff and someone to explain to me what to do. I think you didn't understand who messy the place was. There was. The volunteer is supposed to be a helper not a full time employee without payment. This hostel was the exception. There is a lot of decent places around the world with polite and experienced personel who only need help, like the hostel I mentioned my friend went to volunteer after, in the Netherlands. So yeah, maybe i should have explained better, so you could picture how it really was.
