You should make a video showing how much you can fit, like clothes and stuff you would take on a trip and still stay under the 50 pound limit that most airlines use. I haven’t found anything like that on the web. It’s always camera gear and I would love to see someone weigh their case with actual clothes, toiletries, shoes etc. Regardless, thanks for this video. It was very helpful. 👍🏽

Because it’s not meant for clothes or other travel stuff. It’s meant for very serious gear that’s worth protection with the price that it cost. It’s absolutely overkill for clothing and anything that isn’t worth 10s of thousands of dollars

That’s awesome to hear! I haven’t had too much rain on it, but enough to make me happy I had this case! Thank you for the comment 🙂

Love the video! I have a Blue 1615 and love it, 78 trips thus far with mine. Something I would highly recommend is the THULE packing cubes and the clean/dirty packing cube also from Thule, you can pack for 10+ days easily and still have tons of room.

Wow you do some serious traveling! I’m glad to hear it holds up from so much use! And I will check out those Thule products, always nice to have everything compact and organized. Thank you for the recommendation and the comment🙂

the damage on that is a little concerning for a $500 case on its first trip

That’s what I thought too! And I just moved with it from AZ to NE and it’s even worse… so I am getting a bit concerned

Scratches and minor dings are normal wear - if you're anywhere near the 50lb limit, it's gonna get banged around and probably dragged. I'd expect them mostly on the top side as they usually pack wheeled bags with the wheels facing *up* so they don't snag anything. Watch how the check-in agent puts your bag on the conveyor belt.

I'm right on the edge of getting one of these. On my last trip (domestic USA, landing at BOS) the baggage crew destroyed my old skool hard side (no zippers) samsonite 31". Pretty sure I got dropped some distance as a BT keyboard I had inside had a number of keys busted off. My concern with the 1615 Air is it's an inch longer than that Samsonite, and I've seen a couple of reports of United charging for oversized luggage. They not only have a 62" combined-dimensions limit but 30" length. The 1615 is 32" - but my (now busted) Samsonite is 31" - and I've flown United plenty with that (Kauai, NZ, Fiji). I'm trying to figure if the 1595 is big enough for my needs (big-ass tripod, empty camera pack, ancillary computer stuff, clothes for a week or 10 days). Agreed that the extra money for the TRVL version doesn't make sense. The current version of the Air comes with screw bosses molded into the lid - and there are a number of lid organizers made to fit ranging from $79-120. There's even a Molle panel with quick-release levers so you could set up multiple different panels and swap between them. And there are TSA locking latches for about $60. BTW, those scrapes and scratches are *normal*. I'm trying to figure the best way to attach tie-downs to the inside of the body without poking any holes. Guess I'll check in with Peli support to see if they recommend something...

Wow! That is too bad about your old bag, it is crazy how rough they can be with the luggage (explains all the scratches). There have been comments on this video and another video of mine regarding these bags being oversized and people having to pay extra/wait longer for their bags. I haven't personally had this problem (yet) and i primarily fly Delta and sun country. Good idea with the lid organizers, it would be nice to be able to customize it exactly how you want. Thank you for the comment and I hope you are able to make your decision!

I appreciate this review! I was contemplating between the Air and Air Trvl versions, but I think I’ll stick with the Air. What packing cubes did you use?

Is the 1615 too big for domestic checked bag restrictions? For example, United Airlines allows L+W+D=62" Anything larger and they charge extra.

Not true at all, I've taken 70+ trips both international and domestic (Delta, Virgin, United, Air France) - its considered oversized but zero push back from airlines.

I have the small 1535TRVL and was standing at baggage claim for 10 minutes waiting for it. Alas, it was at oversized the whole time. Looked pretty silly with all the other oversized items. Traveled with it at least 5+ times and this only happened once, so guess it depends and the carrier, or baggage people working that day.
