No need to add water to regular hand dish soap. Just keep priming on high pump level for a minute and the soap comes out great. Then I put the pump back to smallest amount after it got primed.
Definitely leave a little for air I've read with this model.

Yes, I was putting too much. But this thing makes washing experience a lot better.
Can I use it for hand lotion too, or will that be too thick for the dispenser

This will be too thick and probably ruin the machine. You may want to try searching for lotion dispenser.

@@ADawn Thank you, I appreciate your response. I kinda thought it would be too thick. I wanted a matching combo. I haven't come across any automatic Lotion dispensers( Just the soap).
