I did the driving by at night thing when my husband and I were looking to buy a house. I found what looked like a great property on a nice, private, quiet lot which looked great by day but when we drove through at night it was way too quiet and isolated. I just pictured it being perfect for robbers/killers because nobody would hear us if we had to cry out for help, especially if I was at home alone. Sometimes it pays to have neighbors close by. Plus, it looked like a perfect location for ghosts. I watch way too many horror movies, lol.
