LOL! I really liked when men wore actual shorts that fit their behinds rather than the loose skirt like shorts now-a-days! And yes, he had good range in his vocals

*His vocals are always stunning. You should watch the WHAM Netflix documentary from 2023. It is fascinating. George got all the fame but Andrew was just as talented and visionary.*

This song absolutely was a hit. But that seems like such an understatement. This song went into outer space it was so popular.

This song was on the radio & MTV a lot! Yes, it is bubble gum pop, but everyone loved it, not just kids! And George could really sing!

You'd be surprised how many couples you would see on the dance floor when this played. A whole new generation learned how to do the jitterbug because of this song. The whole dance floor would be filled with couples doing it making it look like a 50's or 60's sock hop. Even in country bars it was popular on the jukebox or DJ rotation. 😂 Hey in the late 60's abd 70's even into the 80's hot pants and short shorts was a thing in women's fashion. They even had a Nair Hair Removal commercial with a ditty about it. "Who wears short shorts? We wear short shorts! Nair for short shorts'" 😂

Wow… I just got flooded with memories. I was 14 when this song came out and instantly had a crush on George Michael. He was so beautiful. Every time MTV would play this video, which was a lot per hour back when MTV played videos, I would turn this song up and dance around my living room. It’s such a catchy song. I probably recorded it on the VCR too so I didn’t have to wait for MTV. How times have changed since 1984

George once said that he knew how to write songs that would jump out of the radio and grab peoples attention 💜 'Wake me up' can get peoples feet tapping whatever their age, it's such a feel good song 💜

it's all perspective. Someday some people will have no idea why men wore pants falling off there butts with their underwear showing. It's just a young trend that recycles and tries to be as far away as the previous trend. Love it. What I am not into is the trends that permanently alter ones body-like full body tattoos or piercings.

You’ve got to remember Wham! started their journey together when they were the age of 18. They appealed to their peers which was an audience of teens, mostly girls, but they were plenty of boys that loved Wham! In their short lifespan., Wham! sold almost 40,000,000 records and I think they were together only three years. Needless to say they were one of the most successful early 80s Pop groups. Many of the songs that George wrote, which he did all on his own, are timeless and still enjoyed today. Their type of music was perfect for that era. Check out the Edge of Heaven, or I’m Your Man . I would say those are no longer considered bubble gum pop, but just plain old pop. You’ll love reacting to those two

How funny… I remember having a tape that was made and labeled Bubble gum rock that had some great songs. I wish I could remember all of them. You should also check out some of George’s solo work.

Yeah, I think I was 7 when this came out. It definitely felt like it was for us. I still like it though. Wham! was very good at catchy pop songs. Attempting to explain growing up in the 80s is always entertaining. So many people both younger and older act like my generation would find things that are happening now strange, but have you seen what we grew up thinking was normal? Things might be different now. Weirder? I think not. I wouldn't trade away my 80s childhood.
