In this video I will be taking my first look at the song "Ritual" by Ghost. I'll be watching 3 videos. The first is a lyric video. The second is a studio recording session. And the final video is a Live Concert performance at Lollapalooza in Chile in 2016.

Tobias recently said in an interview that the South American crowd is like nothing else. They do not only sing along with every word. They sing out the riffs and the drumbeat while jumping nonstop. Some videos like this and one from Argentina is insane!

And this is 100% apparant in Rushs Rio performance of 'YYZ'. A song with no lyrics yet the crowd is LOUD AF!!!!
It's Papa 2 without his skull paint. He's the scariest looking one with his skull mask on. This song is from the 1st album. This is why their concerts are called rituals

@TouchyReactions and Papa III is the one from the Concert in Chile. I agree the South American, Central American, and Mexican fans are the bomb. They bring so much energy. It's fun to see their enthusiasm and joy 😊
Tobias is such a solid clean singer that people are surprised to hear he was originally a death metal singer who had no interest in being the vocalist for Ghost.

Yes! more Ghost!! Studio recording is Papa Emeritus II, who when not in an actual Ritual was often out of make-up and formal attire... as he is here in "casual" dress. This caused problems for him but he was much more of a showman with all the trappings people think that comes with. He was the Papa who has been the most "available" to press and fans.
i like to call papa when he dosent have the face paint on "Papa worldwide"
love love love your reactions! i’ve never seen someone dive into songs like this; i really like the idea of reacting to different versions of each song, especially the live recordings!! and speaking of live recordings, a recommendation i have for you from Ghost is “Mummy Dust”!! The performances of that one are always nuts!

Cool reaction! 🙂 The mafia boss is Papa Emeritus II that took over as singer and frontman in 2012 when they switched from the first album (Opus Eponymous) and concert cycle, to the second (Infestisumam). Papa Emeritus II was a bit of a ladies man. Liked to party and invite a lot of women to his room. The Clergy never liked that he started to give interviews and perform (like the studio version of Ritual) without his mask and his regalia. That, among other things, led to his downfall. He was replaced by his 3 months younger brother for the third album (Meliora). The only singer and frontman that has survived the ending of an album and concert cycle is Cardinal Copia. He is the first singer that does not come from the Papa Emeritus bloodline. He fronted the fourth cycle, and was ascended to Papa Emeritus IV on the final concert of the tour, in Mexico.. He received his regalia to the sound of ABBAs "Arrival" of course. The master of the music.. the lyrics.. and the mastermind entertainer behind all the characters.. the masks.. as well as the lore.. is of course Tobias Forge. Looking forward to the next one 🙂

@@magnusblomqvist966 yeah I know the cardinal is the son of Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator.. Was trying to cut down the length of my comment 🤣.. I always end up trying to explain too much.. I even left out explaining The Clergy.. 😅 I, II and III are all legit sons of Papa Nihil.. But Copia is the son of Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator.. You are correct.. Thus not deemed of the same bloodline as I, II and III 👍🏻
When I first looked up Ghost the studio video for this hit had just been released. So I had never seen the papas and all that. I had heard the songs and my impression was that it was old mans rock n roll (something I always enjoyed). So it felt natural for me to see this boring, but weird, looking old man perform it. I did not understand it was a mask lol. And I was like "hmm ok nice music..." and kinda forgot about them for a few years. When I came back to them when they released "he is" I completely fell in love with them.
That's Papa Emeritus II. Same mask, but without the skull paint. Supposedly to show the "man behind the mask", an old Italian scoundrel, so the mob boss description isn't entirely wrong haha.

The whole 1st Ghost album "OPUS" is telling a story from the procreation of the "unholy bastard" to his birth.....

Great react! A few days ago Ghost released a new single, it would be great if you react to it.
Ghost sets a sky high bar for professionalism. Their shows are always excellent - the band is super tight, and Tobias always has great energy and focus.

I do agree. And Ghost always has STELLAR musicians imo. Both live and in the studio, which are 2 different groups of musicians from what Tobias said in an interview
Kaiser ion is a good song to do, they have a pro shot of Papa 4 singing live too
Part of this tune an beat closely resembles a Megadeth song that I can't put my finger on....or remember rather....it's Symphony of Destruction...listen it's pretty much the same grove that one part in the beginning and here an there through the song
