jeff sargent No. You will not convert me. Pink Floyd is the most boring, dull, tedious, slow and monotonous band in the history of music. I’ve TRIED really hard to like it, I really have, many times, and I do appreciate the complexity of the guitar solos, but it just bores me to tears every time.

The Pulse live version will get you there. When music makes you cry, not from sadness but because it touches your soul, you know you've reached a musical Holy Grail. If it also causes your body to tremble then you get to be as lucky as I was the first time I watched/heard the Pulse version of this track. The only piece of music ever to have done that in over 50 years of exploring most genres.

Before you screw up jumping down the rabbit hole, ask your pop’s how to listen to Pink Floyd. Their albums are concept albums and were written, and engineered to be listened to from track one in order to the end. Every reactor that listens to Pink Floyd has been advised to listen to PF that way. Few do it because of the time constraints that they have placed on themselves believing that no one will watch an extended length reaction. I’ve listened to DSOTM, WYWH, Meddle, Animals, and The Wall hundreds of times. To this day, if a reactor actually does a complete album in order I watch, and so do hundreds of other Pink Floyd’s fans. We love to see how you experience. It reminds of our first time, our tenth time and our hundredth time. It never gets old. It is life music that never gets outdated. Just ask your pop’s. He will steer you straight.

This is true. No PF fan ever says: "I'm going to go home and listen to Comfortably Numb" or "Hey You' or "Time". NO! PF fans will knock off work go home, put the lights down low, or even off. Pour a scotch or glass of red wine, get in the been bag and lay way back...Waaaayyyy back and start drinking and listening to their whole albums....this is the way you listen to Floyd !!! Drifting away....

@@BertSmithLondon of course its all subjective. I agree Knopfler has a gift but Page's lead work phrasing doesn't blow me away. His body of work and song structure contributions do however. Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower lead I'd put ahead of Stairway's lead. I'd put Slash ahead of Page for lead work also.

Pink Floyd is in an entirely other Universe of their own making, and I say that in all seriousness, they were SO FAR ahead of their time in both recording techniques, creativity, layering, and brilliant socially devastating lyrical content, not to mention every one of the members were genius. My dude, Welcome To The Machine, you will never see the landscape of music the same again, and that is a fact. Just wait until you start exploring their album Animals, it is a true Masterpiece.

He would play Dark Side of the Moon to calm me down when I was a like 3. As good as the studio version of Comfortably Numb is you really need to hear the live versions. “Sounds like soundtrack of your life” Perfect description. Welcome to Pink Floyd. Two suggestions: 1. Listen to this (and every Pink Floyd album) from beginning to end. Some of the earlier and later albums don’t tell a story, but Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall are one long story that take you in a full circle where you end up where you started...the individual songs don’t necessarily stand on their own. If you listen to Comfortably Numb in context it makes the lyrics much more meaningful. 2. Share this with YOUR children. A friend of mine once said “you know you’ve raised your children right when you find Pink Floyd on their iPod.” Maybe a bit dated, but true nevertheless. Loved your reaction, and immediately mashed the Subscribe.

Love the reaction, thanks man. Trouble is "The Wall" album, which this was from, is a true concept album - it's difficult to react to a single song in isolation. The album tells the story of a rock star from childhood - this song is about a doctor administering drugs to him to get him up and able to perform on the night of a gig, so there are two voices in the song, David Gilmour as the rock star and Roger Waters as the doctor. As for the guitar solos, my favourite saying about them is "Leo Fender created the Stratocaster and God created David Gilmour to play it" - Davi is truly on of the greatest players ever to pick up guitar.

Love the reaction, that song touched you just like it is supposed to. I have to tell you the best way to listen to Floyd is to listen to the entire album start to finish if you really want to go on that journey. "Dark Side of the Moon" = life and death a must listen in it's entirety. "Wish You Were Here" = The story of one of the founding members Sid Barrett (youtube video on that subject), The Wall = Roger Water story growing up in England during WWll, "Animals" = political turmoil between the classes (think Animal Farm). If you really want to get into them go back to their "Meddle" or "Ummagumma" albums or even earlier stuff "Atom Heart Mother", "Pipers at the Gate of Dawn" and the video "Live at Pompeii. Once known as the "Tea Set" after getting ready to do a show there found out another band had that name. Sid Barrett was into the old blues and two men in particular, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, hence the name Pink Floyd!! Enjoy them I know I have. I prescribe the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album. Oh, you may wanna keep tissues around for "Great Gig in the Sky" - her name is Clare Torry!

@@nyborg6425 If I remember correctly the "Final Cut" was made from many songs left over from "The Wall" or it probably would have been a triple album. I think the album was started out as "More Bricks" or "Extra Bricks" something to that affect anyway.

I just found your review of “Comfortably Numb”. You couldn’t have picked a better song to honor your father with. As a 51 year old white, who grew up in a small town with a 50/50 mix. I can relate to your dad’s comments “We’re black” didn’t think y’all would enjoy his “well rounded” love of music. I can relate, being exposed to the likes of Ray, Ottis, Barry, Aretha, Kool and the Gand, Smoky (Dear heaven’s what a voice!) not to mention my personal favorite, Lionel, before and after the Commodores!! Still the greatest voice, my opinion ever!! This would have NEVER happened had I grown up somewhere else. Cable TV, psst! We got two channels on the rabbit ears and large antenna, three if the wind blew in the right direction. Nonetheless, it was all about the music. The artist I grew up on were troubadours! For me it’s more universal then math! I’m a huge Metallic fan. They wrote a lot of songs with lyrics that speak to me after 5 tours in the Korengal Valley and 4 in Iraq. Anyway, most of Pink Floyd’s music and lyrics surround the serious mental issue from PTSD, Roger’s father suffered from after fighting in WW II. However, here’s the actual story behind “Comfortably Numb”. The lyrics were inspired by Waters's experience of being injected with tranquillisers for stomach cramps before a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour. "That was the longest two hours of my life," Waters said, "trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm." The song had the working title "The Doctor". Hey, I dig your wife’s reviews as well!! If you can do one for me, for the brothers I lost. One of those was my twin brother Nicholas and misfortune of seeing it happen during a fire fight and that feeling of helplessness once I was able get to him. I would be honored if you would review “Brothers In Arms” by Dire Straits, which is actually the title of the album. For all our brothers and sisters who paid that ultimate sacrifice!

Awesome reaction to a classic song. I think you should try the song "Time" next. It also brings you into a nostalgic way . Floyd is unique in that, they deal with very serious issues, and they smack you right in the face with them, but they surround these issues with these beautifully melodic and transcending sounds that comfort your mind and let you know it's gonna be okay. A talent that is very unique to Pink Floyd. Looking forward to going on this journey with you and reliving this amazing and transformative, life changing music.
